I have a couple:

I was watching the Australian Open tennis on TV in January when this segment came on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dO9m3kgbQ2M.
You can hear Moon in Water (Instrumental), and I definitely heard Always Loved a Film when it was being broadcast but it must have been cut out of this video. There might be a note or two of it right at the start but I could be imagining it...?

Last week I was flicking through radio stations when I got to SBS Chill and 8 Ball was playing! I've been listening to that station on and off ever since, but I haven't heard any more UW yet.

Heh, I found out there's a US senator with the last name of Hyde-Smith. Sadly I only found out because she made some unsavory comments referencing public hangings.

Haha, the other day I discovered that there's a Dr. Hyde-Smith not too far from where I live.

Nothing particularly new, but a brief article in Q Magazine last month about DRIFT.

he mentions Plastic Ono Band releasing a single every week, but they never quite did it, did they?

the only band I can think of that actually did something like this is They Might Be Giants, who I believe did it twice, once in 2015 and once in 2018. like UW, they also came up with a ton of great material

British Sea Power released an EP a month in 2012 as a way to get it out there and see the responses before whittling it down to an album, which became Machineries of Joy.

it was their worst album to date, but the process was fun at least

I'd say that's pretty good UW defense. Strictly speaking a ratio is when your replies outnumber your retweets, meaning your joke wasn't good enough to pass unmolested.

SHENANIGANS. getting ratio'd is when your replies outnumber your likes! RTs don't factor since it's easier to reply and complain than like so much that you post it on your own TL.

edit: I am academically wrong. the initial factor was reply-to-RT being 2:1, but now they are lumping in likes and RTs to replies.

Was listening to First Wave on Friday at 3pm Pacific. Richard Blade has a segment every Friday for songs that shouldn't be forgotten and he did a little blurb on UW MK1. He mentioned Freur & "Doot Doot" then said that after seeing the movie Underworld, they thought it would be a good name for a band (didn't they actually do the score for that movie, though?), were subsequently signed by Sire and put out their debut album in 1987. He then played "Underneath The Radar." It would have been nice if he mentioned they were still a group (albeit they're not New Wave anymore) and they had a newish release out today (even if it's only a repackaging with a new live show added to it). It was still nice to hear, though.

Yes, Freur did the score for Underworld, and then appropriated the name when the band was reconstituted.

Yes, Freur did the score for Underworld, and then appropriated the name when the band was reconstituted. I thought I'd remembered correctly (although I sometimes forget that Freur and UW MK1 are two separate bands, as the main performers remained the same). Thanks for the memory jog!

So for decades I strongly suspected that one of my favorite anime series, Last Exile, was inspired by Underworld in creating the opening theme. But I didn't really know anyone who was into both anime and Underworld that I could talk to about it. And I definitely never found any comments online about other people confirming it over the years.

Finally, a few weeks ago I directly emailed the artist, Shuntaro Okino, to ask, out of curiosity. I didn't expect a response and forgot about it. Today when I checked my email I got a reply! :D

I noticed the Born Slippy Nuxx drums sample in this track of a Disney Channel Promo from the late 1990 / early 2000s. Does anybody else sorta hear the same drum pattern of Nuxx ? (Especially from 0:18 - 0:34 seconds in) https://youtu.be/TkSNyRYrho0

Dark Train playing at 1:42 min in during the Bjork portion of the Interview. Perfect timing since Bjork collaborated with UW in the past on remixes and played live together at the 1994 Roskilde Denmark Festival. (Which I hope the full performance recording of that show will surface one day online. :0 ) https://youtu.be/zYVeWZTeZ-M

The Pearl's Girl beats are made up of about 3 or 4 different samples, but mixed, edited, and manipulated in a specific way. That video game came out in 1998 and sounds exactly like Pearl's Girl, so it's likely sampling directly from Pearl's Girl.

That's surprisingly a very in-depth breakdown of everything around Born Slippy, great find. May be the only 30 years of Slippy item we end up getting, considering the lack of news so far this year. A lot of good album recommendations on that channel, though.

Very old fan, just haven't posted in a while...

So, Lori Majewski has an hour-long show on Sirius XM where she either has a theme for the week or has a guest artist who then chooses all the music for that week. On Feb 15th of this year, she had on Gary Kemp of Spandau Ballet, who picked the Freur's "Doot Doot" as one of his songs. He then gave a bit of the history and blew Lori's mind away by "revealing" to her that the main members of Freur (Karl and Rick) were the same duo that had done "Born Slippy." If anyone's a subscriber, it's still in the archives.

Me again... Another SiriusXM sighting of (original) UW, this time. First Wave has a show called Party 360, and the DJ played "Underneath The Radar" at about 2:45:00. Since this particular show deletes its past every 2 weeks, this is the only day you'll be able to hear it, unfortunately. Channel 33!
