Not many pubs that are in walking distance to Center Stage. Spotted Dog is down the street, short driving distance. Decent selection of beers/etc. Any takers?

My wife and I may be there. depends on schedules though... good pub though.

it all depends on whether or not i have a performance that night. being an actor is great and all, but it sucks when it gets in the way of other things that never ever happen.

but i'd still like to get cast.

Greetings!

This is my first post on the forum.

My girlfriend and I will be coming from just north of Detroit, wanted to say hello!

Any idea what security is like at Center Stage?

I'll try for it as time allows......might be hectic getting up to Atlanta and back in time for my and my friend to work the next day, so I'm not sure what kind of schedule I'll be tied to.

I'd love to though.:)

Geoff, that could be neat.

We're looking at arriving sometime Friday. We'll probably leave here Thursday night.

Geoff, where are you coming from that your friend will be meeting you up? Just curious.

I asked about security because sadly, I don't see Underworld recording a US show and putting it out -- although I really, really wish they would.

The show in Denver was excellent. Thankfully I have a few clips on youtube to help me remember how awesome of a show it was :)

I'm coming from Boston, flight arriving at 4:30 friday. Can't wait for this :)

Does the Spotted Dog have decent food? I'm going to be hungry...

I'll be there. I'll be at whatever meetup you guys pick as well! I'm not sure when I'm arriving though - most likely Thursday night. I have friends that live in Morrow, GA so I'll be staying there and driving in for the show.

Can't wait.

Depending when we get in (we're looking at a 12+ hr drive) we may be up for a meet.

Is it wrong that I'm already hoping for certain songs to make the setlist?
Sept 2007 was my first Underworld show and the setlist was incredible, but we missed out on Juanita/Kiteless..

It's never wrong to hope for Juanita.

I'll third this. Probably gonna start a request thread soon for this song specifically seeing that it worked for the folks in Berlin. I've seen UW 4 times now, but Juanita has escaped me everytime (as well as Kittens). :( Getting very excited about the upcoming show, esp. with all the recent wonderful setlists.

Threnody and I will be where ever the final meetup is decided on. Luckily, we can both take that day off and take a leisurely 3 hour drive into Atlanta, to whatever hotel is lucky enough to have us grace it with our presence.

SO looking forward to this show!

That's why we meet up early... besides who needs seats when you'll be dancing your arse off!!! However, for those inclined to watch there really isn't a bad seat in the house.

What time should we start the pre-show festivities?

crank

FYI half the venue has seats half is open floor. At least that's how it was for LCD Soundsystem.

It's a great venue. Saw Skinny Puppy there June 2007: good sound, and all the seats that surround the floor are stadium style, so there's not a bad seat in the place.

I'll be sneaking one, maybe two cameras in, so I'll have pictures and maybe video.

Lectoid -

Underworld doesn't seem to mind cameras, so why do they play venues that are so uptight about them/not just let them in? I mean, for christ's sake guys..

I'll be up to something devious as well, no need not to share a rare US appearance with the people who cannot make it.

I wish Underworld would tape their own shows in the US and offer them up for us. I'd buy them and I know many others would.

Hell, I wish I knew the house engineer, I'd ask him for a feed. Does anyone have any recording hardware in case this becomes a possibility? My good friend was a house engineer at a theater in Indy and he told me he'd always give someone a feed if they were cool about it. At a smaller venue, such as this, you can just walk up to the guy before the show and talk to him.

For shits and giggles, I actually e-mailed/called the local newspapers and offered to cover this show in exchange for a free press pass. I was turned down obviously, but it was worth a shot.

When I called this venue about cameras a few weeks ago, they said it's up to the band. She said call day of show (Friday) and she'd know for sure. Whether or not they even ask the band is questionable. But she also could have just said no, so there is hope.

If cameras are allowed, I have a canon point-and-shoot that also does video w/ sound and I have a DSLR that I would consider bringing as well. Probably overkill, especially since I'd have to lug the damn thing around, but I doubt I will get another chance like this.

If you want to spot me, I'll be the guy in the front whose hands block every cool shot.

Oh, and I won't be attending the meet-up (me and my girlfriend like to do our own thing in cities), but if I spot Rick or Karl in town, I'll run over to the Dog, burst in and yell "FELLOW DIRTIES! FOLLOW ME!"

Hey, it's a definite possibility. When I went to the Chemical Brothers show in Brooklyn, we were looking for a place to eat. We passed by this one fancy restaurant, because we were in the mood for fast, greasy garbage. I only found out later that Ed Simons was eating there at that very moment :(

It can also get you thrown out of the show/equipment taken away. It points you out/draws attention to you..

If I knew ahead of time for 100% certain I could get a patch and all would be cool etc, I'd have no problem..

Hopefully someone will get some audio from the show.;)

I hate when venues do this. The venues say it's up to the artists and the artists will say it's up to the venue.

I've seen a few artists in concert who I've talked to directly, in advance, that said I could bring a camera and have at it -- only to find my stuff confiscated by security after the first snap.

If you find anything out, please be sure to let us know!

Have a friend go up and ask the question. If he gets the OK, hand him the equipment to get the patch. If the answer is no, your friend is under suspicion, and you're none the worse for wear, aside from now having to ditch your friend. :D

I think that's a bit extreme. It's not like you'd walk in with a reel to reel asking where to put it.

You walk up and ask the sound guy for a feed, he says no, then you walk away. I sincerely doubt that would get you thrown out.

My friend who is the house engineer used to do this all of the time. Usually they'd say no, but a few times they'd at least let him stand in that area and hang out with him. He knew the lingo and the equipment commonly used so that helped I am sure.

Not totally sure if I can make the meet since my friend is driving from Detroit and he'll be tired. (That's a 12 hour drive...) but I'll try my best to pressure him.

If I can't make it, I hope to meet some of you dirts at the show. So if you see a guy who looks like this (http://www.imagehosting.com/out.php/i1656566_geoff.jpg) with some extra chin hair, be sure to say hi. (And feel free to compliment me on my "what you talkin 'bout willis" impression. :D)

Just got an email with the suject: 'Underworld almost sold out!' from Rival Entertainment. So I guess it must be close to selling out. But I can still buy 50 tickets at Ticketmaster.

geoff
03-27-2008, 01:06 PM
They would probably say that anyway. :) Typical tactic to try and push sales ... but who knows.

It will be interesting to see how many people actually show up tomorrow. This gig is a bit of an oddity wouldn't you say? The small crowd should be a rare treat.

lectoid
03-27-2008, 06:44 PM
I thought about having a few people attempt to buy 50 tickets at the same time since ticketmaster holds on to them for a few minutes. If two people did it, that would be 100 tickets, or about 9% of the seating capacity.

But then I realized I don't care, I have my ticket, that's all that matters.

i'm going to try to make it to the spotted dog. will there be a 'dirty' sign?

the wife is staying home sick, so i'll either be solo or with my cousin, if she can make it.

any tips on a decent parking lot near the pub? bummer to pay to park at the pub and then at the venue as well. it will be better than walking 17 blocks, that's for sure. thanks. safe travels everyone.

edit: i'll be wearing my appropriate "dirty" brown shirt.

Hey disko, the train will easily connect you from the pub to the venue. So you should be able to park in just one place. Somebody here said the Spotted Dog is literally right next door to North Ave station. And the venue is about 1-2 blocks from the Arts Center station. Check out this map (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&saddr=30+North+Avenue+NE,+Atlanta,+Fulton,+Georgia +30308,+United+States&daddr=1374+West+Peachtree+St+NW,+Atlanta,+Fulton,+ Georgia+30309,+United+States&mra=pe&mrcr=0&sll=33.726258,-84.3997&sspn=0.233002,0.375595&ie=UTF8&z=15). Just thought I'd drop a note saying that we made it from MI. Got to our (very dysfunctional Hilton) hotel at about 9am this morning. Since there is food at the spotted dog, I reckon we'll show our ravenously hungry mugs there.
