Just noticed underworldlive.com has added the o2 wireless festival in London' s hyde park, 3rd july.
http://www.o2wirelessfestival.co.uk/home/
I would rather Underworld headline instead of Fatboy Slim...but still, that 5 london gigs in a relatively short space of time! (6 over the last 12 months if you include the knebworth date!!). No complaints from me!
Pre-sale tickets on Sat 16th Feb.

Yeah Glasto must be likely, been 9 years since the last time. Possibly one of Creamfields/Global Gathering too.

I wish Roskilde would be calling as well, been too long since the last visit ;)

Just back from the gig at Hyde Park….
The gig was great – they played for 90mins headlining the second stage (from 7 till 8.30) which was basically a huge tent. It was completely full with people queuing outside to get in – I would say there was 7 or 8000 in there….maybe more.
There was not much in the way of improvs, or talking between songs – just a storming 90mins with all the expected festival tunes – very up-tempo and very little gaps between songs, with most of them mixed in together.
I think the set list was:
Croc.
Spoonman
Rez
Pearls Girl
Two Months Off
Rowla (I think)
King Of Snake
Born Slippy
Jumbo
Moaner
For me the highlight was a great version of Spoonman and I thought Karl was really on form and energetic throughout. I think there was a poem during the intro Slippy.
I guess their set had to be so up-tempo because MSTRKRFT played a great upbeat set just before they came on and the crowd was pretty pumped up….and I guess that is why they did not play Ring Road as it would not have fitted too well into the set. In fact, I would say the crowd was great – very energetic and loud – and they loved the giant glow sticks or whatever they are!
Towards the end, they released a bunch of blow up balls...I am guessing they were same white blow up balls in todays photo diary on the website.

Was going to say you missed Nuxx in all that til I read the rest. I think I heard Monkey Wink in the middle of Nuxx, and there was something piano-ish that I think I have heard before but can't put my finger on in the lead-up to Spoonman too.
I didn't make it in time for the MSTRKFT gig cos I was still with Das Pop who were suprisingly fantastic. Half an hour before UW there was an enormous queue and I swear there were 2-3000 people who still wanted to get in and couldn't. I really don't understand why UW were in the tent and Deadmau5 on the main - open area - stage. Made no sense at all, given the relative numbers. Ah well, was still excellent even if we were playing sardines right at the back :D
Edit: I forgot - there was the vocal line from Can You Feel This Bass backinh Karl's poem, which was fab!

Why the decision to put UW in the tent instead of the main stage beggars believe...you just could not move.
Saying that UW were great with them giving the best rendition of Born Slippy i have heard live....the whole tent were going mental.
Got a better view after the whole tent left before the encore though.

I was glad underworld were in the tent - the atmosphere was amazing. Even for Fat Boy Slim on the main stage afterwards I did not think there was much of an atmosphere - plus the visuals work much better in the dark...
Was room to dance down at the front, but I must admit I had a heart attack when I saw the queue to get in 30mins before they came on....but managed to find a side enterance with no queue :)

Well... outside in the dark visuals would work. But this moms 'n pops festival was at midday! ;)

i was at the front...there wasnt any room but people still try to squeeze in..its very hard to stand in the exact same spot that im using as i also have mass, and even though i was crammed in, someone still came over to stand in front of me (it really annoys me)
i got there when cut copy were on (actually quite good)..i endured mstrkrft but it was well worth the wait.
the set was great...as good as any ive been to before. (2 roundhouse gigs)
annoying camera man was infront of me all through the gig...it was funny seeing the photographers being herded around like sheep, tiny cameras, big lenses..
early in the day i saw someone with dirty.org tee on, and a notepad...i guess he's on here somewhere with track list and all the details..
whats the word for an underworld spotter?
great gig....highlight of the festival...
walking past the fat boy slim gig at the end i had to put my headphones on to drown out the blandness...

Have to say marks out of 10 for Wireless - bout 1.5
festival itself was great but why on earth were underworld in a tent which was far too small.
Whoever suggested 8-9000 people in the tent was talking rubbish, looked as if it could hold 4000 max. The tent was far too small, and nothing compared to some at other festivals. Even if it could hold 8-9000 this is still too small considering the vast majority of people were coming to see Underworld & Fatboy slim & there were NO other stages!
I saw one poor girl getting trampled just before they got on stage, by which point security had given up. I gave up after 15 minutes as although Underworld sounded great I could not be bothered with fighting my way in and being severely crushed for 60 odd minutes.
At the same time some band no one had heard of were on the main stage - Great festival planning!
Laptop slim as he will now be known as was poor and he spent most of the time walking round the stage grinning like a cheshire cat whilst his trusty laptop churned out the tunes. Not suprised he was smiling, probably thinking about the fat boy paycheck he has coming to him for that piece of work. When he did some mixing, it wasn't great either - think he'd
Basically, Underworld should have been in a bigger tent (let alone on first stage instead of a band no one knew). Ironically Laptop slim would have been better suited to the tent environment.
Sorry for the rant but still fuming after a day -
I'll catch UW next time but still absolutely gutted

I'll delete one of em :)
I agree that the tent capacity was about 4-5000 but I seriously reckon there were at least 2-3000 trying to get in when it was already full to bursting point.
And as for FBS, it was such an anti-climax after the banging UW set. Huge great big stage, little bloke and laptop at desk shaking his arms about from time to time and putting on his headphone now and again to look like he was cueing something up. No entertainment value at all, frankly. He has lost his edge, no doubt about it.

Thanks
Will just have to look forward to the next show they do - hopefully it will be before Wireless next year
They did sound good from outside though

Sorry for 'talking rubbish'....i must have counted some of the heads in the crowd twice - I'll be more careful next time before posting. My estimate was 7 to 8 thought, not 8 to 9.....
Obviously you did not have a great night and I'm sorry for that, I guess festival gigs can be a bit hit and miss. I remember a few years ago seeing them at Global Gathering on the main stage and that was poor - the sound was not good, the lights did not match the sound and the atmosphere was not that great and I missed the beginning because of the huge queue outside. But when its not an Underworld gig, things are more unpredictable.

(currently listening to the amazing "pg" at the 1996 gig posted by phaseblue)
Anyways, been reading this thread with interest as I was meant to be there, but thanks to a mega bug I was in bed :(. I was very dissapointed at not going cos I just love the whole music fest experience and I wanted to meet up again with Janie and the other dirts - however, the rammed condition of the tent sounds horrendous - that is something I really cannot handle. Plus, I agree with...err...re Global Gathering - a humungously long queue for the police search and then a very poor sound. But hey ho, it's not always alright on the night. Let's hope for sunny weather, cool sound, and space to breath at creamfields

Agree with most pionts on here.
I was about 1/2 way back about an hour before UW took the stage & even at that point you could hardly move but with everyone else pushing through it became unbearable...me & my mate eventually gave up & stood at the very back & even then there was far from enough room,
Gotta disagree with most about Norman though...I thought his set was great - when he dropped 'Jump Around', the audience went mental
5 out of 10 from me

Sorry, I could probably have phrased that better & like most things, only realised once i'd posted it (twice). - did not mean anything by it, unfortunately was still wound up by it all & needed to vent somewhere.
Calmed down a bit now though but I agree unfortunately thats the way it goes sometimes.
I was at the GG gig too - queued for 4 and half hours but got in 3 mins before UW got on stage so I guess sometimes, its just luck.
What irritated me was that it just appeared to be a monumentous cockup on behalf of the organisers to have such a small tent for, lets be honest - joint headliners. When most people were there to see two acts, which did not clash timings-wise they at the very least should have have had in bigger arena to accomodate the thousands outside.
Anyway, never mind, look forward to the next one & apologies to whatmakesustick ;)

Pretty good set I thought. Took about 10 minutes just to get in the tent but thought there was more room to dance about compared to wild in the country last year. Was hoping to hear Parc and Ring Road but thats the way it goes at festival shows. Nice little improv between Crocodile and Spoonman had not heard before. Most up-for-it crowd i've seen them play to well done everyone that was there had a great time!

@ Ploom2:
Wow! I was spotted! What an honour! I thought it was time to bring out my old dirty.org t-shirt again, although why I'm now advertising one of those crappy meaningless links websites I'm not sure... Whatever happened to dirty.org?
Yes, I had a notebook out, but it wasn't during anyone's set. I was writing a few notes and doodles and things, completely unrelated to the music. You've portrayed me as an Underworld trainspotter! (But you spotted me, so you'd be worse anyway! - an Underworld-spotter-spotter?)
I had to queue for 20 mins to get into the tent which was a complete disorganised mess. Robyn (who?) on the main stage, with Underworld in a little tent round the back... Lame!
I thought Jumbo was ace though - possibly the best live version I've heard. Very nice. Thank you!

Haha Global Gathering was a strange gig, I was at the front trying not to fall over in the strange beach they had created and stopping girls from climbing on my shoulders. Still they did, Lenny Penny/Small Conker/You Do Scribble which made me very happy!
