Hi!
Posted this in the Sunshine soundtrack release date thread, but reposting here for opinions on the music itself rather than the legal tie-ups of the ST.
Just rented the "Sunshine" DVD and watched this weekend, making notes for UW music. Here's what i heard, anyway:
"To Heal" (used as a motif, several times, inc. conclusion)
"Loads of Birds" (non-vocal version)
"You Do Scribble" (the ambient bit before the beats come in)
"Ansum/Quick Bit of Rope" (included in deleted scenes, at least)
"Peggy Sussed" (vocal, during credits)
In addition, there is a guitar figure played sveral times (e.g. during Mercury scene) that is VERY Karl Hyde. Can anyobne confirm? It's just lovely.
Other incidental music is mostly pads and strings...could be John Murphy or UW or a hybrid. There are a couple bits with beats that might be UW, but who knows.
I find it interesting that Underworld essentially used bits and pieces lying around for the soundtrack. Certainly YDS and PS are from 2005 and QBoR/Ansum are 2002 or earlier. Granted, To Heal, and the latter songs might have been written for the soundtrack and we later heard them live (not sure when score production began?), but this seems an odd way to do a soundtrack. Maybe they were just asked for pieces-parts, hence John Murphy's insistance that he did the bulk of the composition (though the parts that aren't distinctly UW are boring as all get out!)
Thoughts?
Holden
