I'll second that request. I've gone through three or four computers since 1999 and lost a few things along the way. Is there any kind of secret archive of all those tracks (not including the concerts)?
I really want to get the Stagger track that was previosly on UWL. Can anyone help me out? I haven't been able to find it anywhere.
Puleeeeeze!!!

I don't have the files as mp3s anymore, but hav since burned most of them to disc. I'll check at home later today, rip and upload, if that's okay (seeing as these were freely available in the past, it should be fine, right?)
Check back later, kids!

Okay, you manimals and crazyladies,
Here're some of the archival tracks from Underworldlive, circa 2001-ish.
Not an exhaustive list, but it's what i had handy:
"Stagger jam"
"Air Towel jam"
"Bungalow with Stairs"
"Kippers"
"Oich Oich jam"
"Man Loop"
"Quick Bit of Rope for Web"
"Shout Twice"
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=S1DXVYG6
Some of these may have had different designations originally, but that's what i've got. Still looking for where i put "Unruly July", "Vocoder Monks", and "King of Snake early version", "Nuxx jam", "something like a mama jam", and "010101" amongst others, but this is a start, anyway.
Enjoy!

Thanks holden, I can finally get my straighten fix. :D
I know they were never really high quality but dubman if you have the original extended stagger mp3 I would love to get a copy. There is no discernible generation loss on holden's copy but just for piece of mind, you know.

Thank you thank you thank you thank you.
"Bungalow With Stairs" is, IIRC, a bit of Japanese woman followed by some rough, slappy beats with an ambient outro.

just got TheBang's pm - I'm about to head out, but a quick breakdown of the message I just sent him
I've lost most of my uwlive files (my hd crashed), but I still have:
(and these are the original files, not copied back from audio discs)
• the full version of Bungalow with Stairs
• the speed / reverse corrected version of "090701 All The Stars" (if I remember correctly, this was the soundtrack to a video file, in the original video file, all the audio was in reverse)
• Burger Van Man Gig
• most/all the video files (including the "Talking Heads" series, as well as the ones where it was a bit of a short 'music video' - like the one with the ukeleli (spelling?) loop with blue + red video of a guy with glasses talking, for example)
• I should still have Fuji Rock, Eurockeenes, and Blue Mountain
unfortunately, I don't have "Kippers" any of the "Lemonworld Jams" or the studio outtakes
kippers was given the name b/c it was the audio from a section of the original version of UWlive (pre-dogboyheadset... maybe even before the 365 couches project - or it existed at the same time when that started) it never was an actual download, just background audio
"Bungalow..." shares most/all of it's audio from the Tomato2 cd-rom... I definitely remember that breakbeat section also being in the Tomato3 cd-rom (the little square one)

I don't think it ever was.
In addition to the tracks discussed/posted above, a number of rare unreleased tracks have appeared in various radio broadcasts from Lemonworld, but weren't on UWLive. Off the top o' my head, these include:
biro the leggy (early Beautiful Burnout)
"Lonely Bollock" ( i think a fan name, includes elements of RiverRun tracks)
TT
020202 (with sola sistem lyrics)
Ancient Phat Farm Coat (slightly different from version of PforE, with Welsh lady)
Something Glitchy (includes "two dogs attach each other" lyric)
To Heal and Restore (version with Rick's dad speaking)
Some tracks credited to "Mr. & Mrs Christmas":
Dinner at Rods
The Melon Man
The Girl
Belfort Novatel Kipper
Bear of Man
Choppo

Very nice, thanks. I think between the two of you that's pretty much all the video clips from that era.
BTW, I noticed some of the identical clips in your postings differ. For example, ItalianNightRide.mov, one of them is almost twice the bitrate of the other. I found at least 10 clips where the bitrate and quality was twice as good in one group or the other. I guess UW reposted clips at some point at better quality than the initial posting?

I believe there were multiple versions available, you just couldn't see them all; I think it is still done the same way. I think Quicktime runs a quick speed test and then routes you to a version of the video with quality/size according to how good it sees your connection.

I recently found an old CDR with all the archives that were available at the time. All the tracks and videos have already been posted, but I'd been organised enough to get all the thumbnails too!
So for those who are perfectionists and just have to have a nice little picture on their ipods to go with each track, you can grab all the thumbnails here:

I would be interested in this as well!
I`d like to start fleshing out the rest of the "Underworld; Live in Japan" section of darktrain.jp and start putting up some more audio and video from past shows.
Any media anyone has from Japan (audio / video) would be greatly appreciated!
I have a fuji 1999 video, but it is only 2 tracks: born slippy and rez-cow, and a 2003 video also rez-cow and TMO.

well - sometimes people have to be reminded about RTSR...
but Fuji was posted on UWLive - I forget which year though
and if you didn't notice - part of that performance was used for "Everything Everything" ... I don't remember all the tracks used, but I think "Pearls Girl" is from Fuji

FujiRock as well as Blue Mountain gig and the archived live jams were up at least from 2002 (when i stumbled apon them) till the page got a major overhaul a couple years back.
It's nice, though, to see a new wave of fans interested in these tracks.
Ah, "Rising Son"...such a great remix and a perfect improv for that era.

I was just cleaning up my Underworld stuff in iTunes and found I was missing a few tracks and artwork from the old UnderworldLive site. Went back through this thread and found some of the old links have died soooo....
1) Is there a specific reason why the free UnderworldLive.com audio + video aren't available on RTSR? (at least, I can't find it) I mean in terms of policy.
2) Would a permanent archive of all the old UnderworldLive.com audio + video be helpful to anybody but me? I have free web hosting through my job, so I could host the files easily, so any dirts whose drives crash or whatnot could easily replace that stuff.
3) I'd need help filling some of the gaps, especially with the artwork for the live shows they posted. That thumbnail zip stauff posted is great but those with the full-size graphics could be a big help in making a more formal archive.
Would like everybody's thoughts on whether this is worthwhile.

I think all the EE audio was taken from a Pukkelpop (?) gig. The video was a mixture of different gigs including Fuji and Pinkpop.

Alright, sorry about the delay but I'm finally ready to get this Underworldlive.com archive thing off the ground. Thanks to some generous dirties and my own ripping and editing of available audio, I think we're very close to having a complete collection of everything that was ever released for free online.
Here is a list of what material I've compiled. It's missing the new tracks that were available on the last version of Underworldlive.com as streams, but I'm sure some of you can spot some other holes and hopefully fill them with the appropriate files.
http://docs.google.com/View?id=ddxnxwgb_3hqfzq29b
RTSR would be an ideal place for such a complete collection but the nature of that site and Yahoo group continues to elude and confound many, including myself (for some reason I continue to receive the Yahoo email digests but cannot log into the group itself). So I think in in addition to RTSR, some kind of dedicated website or Mediafire download package or something along those lines is better. I could even host it myself if need be. But we'll worry about that later.

Right, I got that but left it off as it's been since released commercially. There's an Ancient Phat Farm Coat they played somewhere that is identical to the RiverRun version so I left that off as well. I'm just trying to isolate the stuff you can't hear anywhere else at the moment.

Yes, exactly. In fact, I think anything Underworld releases for free is fair game to be ripped or downloaded or shared regardless of whether it's still streaming on their site. If something like the extended To Heal becomes commercially available, then it can be removed from the free archive because chances are everyone who knows about it will buy it. The problem with Underworld is that they've released all this amazing material and then let it become virtually unavailable -- even when people desperately want to buy it -- and often just because the website was updated in some puzzling way. It's tough for dirties to keep up with all this stuff, so it's impossible for less hardcore fans to hear a lot of this at all. I think it's hearing this stuff that turns people into hardcore Underworld fans.

I'm (almost) positive I have all of those still - I just have to get some other things handled this morning first.
[edit: here's the link]
http://www.mediafire.com/file/52ky48rz0k1r9re/Underworld_Live_Movies.zip/file
this is everything from that list, plus a few more.
If, by any chance, someone has the versions of "Swing Up High", or any of those streaming files that popped up around the 'OWB / Pre-Barking' era (like Rick's field recordings made during the US leg of the OWB tour, the versions of 'Autotrader' ...and I think there were versions of "Telematic Peal" ... maybe ALAF... as well) - it'd be much appreciated if they could share them!

Here’s what I’ve got from what you’re talking about. I can upload them when I get home tonight if no ones got a more thorough collection. The autotrader stuff was given/sold (?) along with the phone strap versions I thought.
ALAF; studio [version 1]
ALAF; studio [version 4]
Swing Up High; studio ; May 2004 [Radical Version]
Swing Up High; studio ; May 2004 [Version 1]
Telematic Peal ; Studio 2008 [instrumental]

Awesome, thanks a lot - I believe I have some of the stuff you're looking for ... ;)
Phonestrap / Autotrader was sold as a six-track bundle at UWlive. Been unavailable for a long time.
And there were alternate version for all of Barking
Strumpet Groove 7:10
Always Loved a Film (Lemonworld Mix) 7:24
You Do Scribble 8:04
Hamburg Hotel Essex 3:21
Grace (Telematic Peal Mix) 7:37
Between Stars (Lemonworld Mix) 4:55
Diamond Jigsaw (Demo Mix) 3:51
Moon in Water" (Lemonworld Mix) 5:53
Louisiana (Jumping the Cran) 2:05
And also a promo with instrumental versions
There was also this version of Telematic Peal (http://markcod.dk/10%20Telematic%20Peal%20(Version).m4a) on the 2008-06-11 show
And another one (http://markcod.dk/10%20Telematic%20Peal.m4a) on the 2008-04-23 show

THANKS dubman and mark3!
I actually had that Phonestrap EP / digital single, but no worries. It's great to finally have those versions of 'Swing up High', ALAF #4, and the instrumental of Telematic Peal.
In regards to "Autotrader," I might be mis-remembering (I mean - it was about 10 years ago), but wasn't there a version where it had "Stagger" - style beats? Like, it started out with just Karl reading the car listings, but then it slowly added percussion...

reminds me of Karl saying he tried to get "Jumbo" cut from BF. though obviously he likes it now
tbh UW have always had some odd opinions regarding their own work, which is certainly not an uncommon thing, but it does explain why the "finish and release everything" kick they've been on this year has been so fruitful. as great as "Swing up High" is you get the sense it's only two-thirds done.

I loved Jumbo from the jump. I still remember where I was and what I was doing when I first heard that bass and drum kick in. My eyes went totally anime.
The bass... I’ve learned to like it. It tweaked me the wrong way for ages because it always felt odd. Fat but not heavy, like something only kind of stuck in your throat.
But also I was at an age where Karl’s lyrics/delivery in it were just... too embarrassing. I couldn’t play this to my friends! “Iiiiiuuhn, need sugarrr” fucking... no! Eeaugh!
But being 14 is like that.

I think I was 13 when I first heard it. Loved it immediately
I didn't really like the "I need sugar" line either, but there's one that always got me..."telephone breath between us...there are no borders between us...only these wires"
Speaking of "Jumbo" - I was listening to an album by Yukihiro Takahashi the other day (who you might know from Yellow Magic Orchestra) and came across this tune - if Mr. YT is ripping you off then you've definitely stumbled on something brilliant :)

didnt aNt say something to the tune of "it's only up there because i begged for it, they'd rather forget about it and don't understand why i like it so much."
Version 1:
Recorded in 2004 as part of the early Riverrun experiments; for me, this almost painfully
simple synthesiser arpeggio piece evokes pictures of hi-life guitarists in a frantic jam.
Swing Up High might be a bit like Marmite to your tastes though.... and aNt may be the only person in
the world who loves this tune (apart from us).
p.s : this was version 1 .... do you want to hear what happens next?
Version 2:
Where you going;
Several weeks ago an irritating genius we know ( no prizes for guessing who I'm talking about ) brought
this track to my attention. "Dude! When can I play this to my mates?"
Halfway through the uploading of this piece I 'discovered' another radical version which Mr Hyde and
myself jammed together at some place and some point in time.
These 'discoveries' are important to Karl and I. They spawn all sorts of tangential yet bizarrely natural
flows in our writing process. ( Look Janet! Look John! See the Process!)
They encourage action and reaction. They encourage the Jam.
They make us laugh.
Now move on.
RS
What I'm thinking;
I didn’t know what to say about Swing Up High but Rick said it reminded him of
‘Hi-Life’ music & how that reminded him of Tim Bricknell.
Tim’s a great bloke & a dear friend who’s out in Botswana producing the Number 1 Ladies Detective
Agency series. We met him first when he was producer on the Breaking & Entering project & he worked
with Anthony Minghella for many years until we tragically lost Anthony earlier this year (2008).
When I think of Hi-Life I think of King Sunny Ade singing ‘Synchro System’ at the Montreux Jazz
festival back in the 80’s with Keith Haring painting a back-drop of little dancing men live onstage.
I think of Andy Kershaw who always seemed to be playing the excellent Bhundu Boys whenever I tuned
into his radio show. Radio & indigenous music needs Andy back on the airwaves. His passion for music
that most of us know little about is infectious & in terms of music from other countries he’s been my
greatest teacher. I remember having a slight disagreement with a producer at the BBC when Andy was
moved from Radio 1 to late night Radio 3. I commented that Andy was missed & this guy said how Andy
didn’t belong on Radio 1 which kicked me off as amongst other things Andy plays THE ROOTS of
popular music & without knowing the roots all we’re gonna be doing is referencing music that only goes
back a few years. No roots – shallow foundations.
(nuff of that)
And of course when I think of Hi-Life I think of the master – John Peel - who loved the music of The
Four Brothers & I remember how they were played on the night we all gathered at BBC Maida Vale to
celebrate him.
Yeah – that’s it – Hi-Life – the music of celebration.

This is what Rick had to say about San Francisco Walk:
San Francisco was orange and blue with a hotel room window that opened out onto the street; the street
ambience told me to come outside and take a walk and record stuff. I carried my laptop out onto the
street and tried to hide it under my jacket. it was useless and asking for trouble from weirdos so after
that experience I bought myself a little Marantz stereo recorder.
The imagery of him trying to surreptitiously walk around with his laptop stuck under his jacket is hilarious to me.

Okay, about eleven years after I said I was going to do this, here it is. I believe this is the most complete and detailed list of Underworld's free downloads, streams, DVD-ROM rips, promos, etc. that I think anyone's put together. The idea is to keep track of every piece of audio that's not on a proper commercial release, and ideally sort out a permanent archive of the files so people can get their hands on this stuff or replenish long dead hard drives.
Joe The Lion, I believe you are the keeper of the old video files from underworldlive.com. If you could share those with me, I'll integrate the applicable audio into this list.
I'm sure I'm missing something, so please chime in here with any additions/corrections.

Oh weird... I'm guessing they think it's a commercially available track?
I'll try uploading somewhere else...

Yeah, Mediafire scans audio content. Man Loop is a longer version of Second Hand, which is available on the Dubno deluxe edition.
You can get around it by uploading it in a password-protected archive that Mediafire is not able to look into.
