i kinda feel compelled to start this thread as over the last few weeks i've watched some of the biggest movies of last year and the majority of them have been steaming turds

i thought a movie would have to go some to knock tomb raider off my worst movie ever number one spot, but fair play, spiderman 3, transformers and pirates 3 all had a damn good go

i didn't particularly enjoy spiderman 2 but spiderman 3 was a whole different level of shit altogether.

and i can't believe how bad pirates at world's end was after enjoying the first movie so much. an almost non existent plot, pointless set pieces and incredibly over long it really was a chore to watch

thank heavens then for no country for old men and the soon to be released (over here anyway) there will be blood which i'm sure will restore my faith in movies once again.

anyone else got any real stinkers from last year..?

Here's some food for thought: From metacritic's compilation of reviews:

These all "rank" in the worst 200 scores since 1999
Worst of 2007 (average score/100):

Daddy Day Camp (13/100)
What Love is (14/100)
I Know Who Killed Me (16/100)
Epic Movie (17/100)
Delta Farce (17/100)
Miriam (18/100)
Kickin It Old Skool (18/100)
Who's Your Caddy (18/100)
Good Luck Chuck (19/100)
Bratz (21/100)
Tortilla Heaven (22/100)
The Condemned (23/100)
Caffeine (23/100)

i'm glad to say i didn't waste any money on these (though i guess i considered Good Luck Chuck just for Jessica Alba eye candy!)

I'll agree with myou Matt that "Pirates 3" was a mess. i just wanted it to end.

pirates 3 was really a shit movie, rise (with lucy liu) was my biggest disappointment, like wanna be the female blade

in the name of the king???

i didn't see it, but my roomate did and he said it was terrible. the reviews on rotten tomatoes (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/in_the_name_of_the_king_a_dungeon_siege_tale/) don't suggest otherwise either!

i notably went to see no country for old men the same night. for some reason he and a few friends wanted to see that one...

Live Free or Die Hard

Wow, what a disappointment that was. Just a cheap, silly, over the top CGI-fest for the masses that had nothing to do with the excellence of the first one. It was like an insult to me as the original Die Hard is one of my favourite movies.
I can't believe how this got 80% on RT and 7.7 on imdb.

I would have to cast my vote for the steaming pile "Transformers". It was shallow, stupid and blasphemous to the original. Just about every person I talk to loved it but I don't think it could've sucked much more (unless the hottie wasn't in it!:D )

Is that Die Hard 4.0? Cos if so, yes, this would have to be top of my list too (with Pirates III a close second). Both of these were a complete travesty compared to the earlier movies in their respective series.

Wow. I liked Die Hard 4. It was fun. I thought. Still not as good as the first Die Hard, but not bad as a brainless action flick.

Shows what I know . . .

i quite enjoyed die hard 4.0 too - i really wasn't expecting much but thought it was a lot of fun. sure nowhere near as good as the first 2 movies but also nowhere near the trainwreck it could have been

and like i said, die hard 4.0 was quite fun whereas spidey 3, pirates 3 and transformers were all a real chore to watch and in fact we switched transformers off with about 15 mins to go as we were losing the will to live. but what really gets me is i know lots of people who raved about those 3 flicks, saying how good they were so i was left wondering 'am i missing something here?' whilst watching them

i'm off to see sweeny todd tonight which seems to have really polarised reviewers over here - lots of 5 star reviews but also lots of 2 star ones so i'll be interested to see which end of the scale i'm inclined to feel about it after watching...

I remember being really bored by the end of Spiderman 3. I was keen to see it, because I enjoyed the first two movies as superficial blockbuster-type films, but 3 was duuuulll. And frankly, neither of the Pirates sequels have lived up to the first film.

Juno.

This film is irritating, smug, "clever" and loves itself to death. I hated it.

I watched SM3 the other day and whilst it was all a bit dull and lacking in focus, the bit when Tobey Maguire walks down the street dancing on shooting his fingers at all the girls is absolutely fucking hilarious.

Oh bollocks. I was kinda looking forward to it. Seemed like it might a comedy film in the vein of Little Miss Sunshine, which was brilliant.
