From the way it's being reported, it doesn't look like he'll be directing.

Hmmmm.

Sam Raimi?
Guillermo Del Toro?

guillermo would be amazing.
the hobbit books not only are but *feel* different than the regular LoTR books, lets hope they have the balls to distance it a bit from the franchise and make it its own amazing saga.

also, read the press release. jackson's doing tintin with speilberg. super excited about that!

yeah read about the tintin thing yesterday as well. Supposedly Andy Serkis is doing captain Haddock :)
I wonder which story it will be based on, or if they're gonna try and write a whole new one.
I'd like to see the do Destination Moon/Explorers on the Moon, but most of the other stories would be great film material as well I think.

gotta dig out those books again...

Del Toro has been confirmed as director on 'The Hobbit'

Don't have a link to hand - but it was mentioned in papers here.

And yeah - Tintin in pre-development. Will be interesting.

I had to chuckle - apparently the code-name for the initial project was "Snowy" - which if you know anything about the stories is a dead giveaway, and not particularly secret squirrel.

Supposedly there is going to be a sequel also that covers the events between the end of the Hobbit and LOTR.
