ok, i'm compiling the Best of OWB Tour Live discs now and i have to say, if you only want to buy 1 of these discs, buy Birmingham. it's almost not worth breaking up the concert to compile the best of. i'm tempted to just stick Kittens, Rowla and You Do Scribble on there and call it done.

London II

One of the best UW gig's I've been to. Listening gives me the shivers. :)

Good comments, folks...i've been debating which to purchase. This, along with the thread on tracklists definitely are useful. Cheers!

(p.s. i've heard London part 1, and it is amazing. Can only expect more of the same goodness from the other shows! And anyway, how often does UW put on a bad gig? From the 100 or so boots i have, i'd say very Rarely.)

Underworld - Everything, Everything

Not Underworld - Bruce Springsteen - Live 1975-1985 OR Bob Dylan - Live 1966 (The Royal Albert Hall Concerts)

out of the three (soon to be four for my greatly appreciative soul) i really love london two simply because the second disc is completely devastating, and i love it even moreso for that because it's all the hits we accept with a grin an a dance usually but they're actually made really special again, after this many years, because it's executed so ruthlessly.

This is going to be difficult cos I have all 5 and all of them have moments of u/w brilliance - Bamboo from Manchester, Dark Train from Birm, Karl's intro from London 2, Kittens from London 1, to name just the first few out of the hat! I shal endeavour to listen to them all over the w/e and get back to this thread.

that's cheating!..

i could have said Tokyo Live, which is much much better..

but that's still unfair... ha ha..

Where can an American who didn't attend the shows find these? Are there cd of the US shows? If so, where can I find those? I still haven't figured RTSR.

i'm so glad they're still available, and there's quite a number left because they have little warning labels on them when they're about to run out, which means my poor-ass can get them all gradually.

Agh. SO which gig is THE gig. Is there no opinion of the definitive gig to buy?

personally, i think it's Birmingham. it all depends on your song choice though.

they're all very good. you won't be disappointed in any of the discs. figure out what's most important to you. for some it would be having Dirty Epic or Skyscraper. For others it would be Glam Bucket with max guitar. Maybe you want Kittens or You Do Scribble?

There are no bad choices.

well according to BLD, birmingham is the one, though i think that all of them have strong points going for them, the only drawback being is that most of the setlists are redundant enough to not *really* justify getting all 5.
so i dont know what to tell you...
birmingham has an extra boost on the sound, making two months off completely devastating.
london 2 has bloody expert timing and arrangement on their second disc to make all the hits extra great. kittens especially. this almost invisible roar of air that rushes in when it explodes is astounding, deliberate or not. and born slippy comes out running instead of fading in, which i always loved and they dont do enough.
glasgow has dirty epic and nuxx 03
manchester is pretty solid all around, loud guitar on glam bucket, and has the best version of bamboo.
london 1 i havent heard yet, but is one of the darker sets, so i've heard.

that would only be half of the songs played..
they've played at least 30 distinct songs (including improvs)..

[ see post : http://www.darktrain.org/dirty/forums/showpost.php?p=83539&postcount=63 and 64 ]

each show only had 12 songs approx....

if you look at the stats here : http://www.darktrain.org/dirty/forums/showpost.php?p=83548&postcount=70

there's still plenty of 1 offs left over..

basically a triple cd set, would cover everything,

which is why the TOKYO live set is still the one to beat,
nothing has come close to it yet..

Shake That Higher / Crocodile / Borialis - Manchester
Rez / Cowgirl - Manchester
Glam Bucket / Lockin Mono / Everybody Jack - Manchester
King of Snake - Manchester
Pearls Girl - Manchester

Yes, but "Everybody Jack" is the correct name.

I prefere London2 and I have a valid reason for this...
When watching this show on the net, I recognised Janie in the crowd and she was having a good time :D

The version of Cowgirl (or actually Shake That Higher / Cowgirl / Skyscraper / Rez) on Birmingham is about the best I've heard. The vocoder vocals in the middle are worth the price of admission alone.

Manchester rocks hard..excellent song selection, technical work,
lots of improvs, .....no contest at all...

birmingham a close second...good selection
then comes glasgow..

london 1 edges out london 2..sorry i didn't
feel it from these, guess you had to be there..

well worth it, now for the japanese show!
