some of underworld's lyrics, as we all know, don't make sense when read in a linear fashion. but i've found that a lot of their songs do make sense if you listen to the music enough and use the lyrics to interpret the music.

for example, i was thinking today that 'stagger' was about a man whose wife leaves him, and he stays inside all day and eats and eats for years until he has a heart attack and dies.

'push upstairs' is more obviously about porking.

etc.

what do you think?

I've actually wondered whether the titles "Push Upstairs" and "Push Downstairs" referred (independent of the lyrics) to the time during BF recording where Karl and Rick weren't getting along... I believe there was an interview where it was stated that their only real communication was Rick sending songs upstairs to Karl, and Karl sending them back downstairs with vocals etc.

That would also explain the Fonestrap-like evolution of Push Upstairs to Push Downstairs...

There's enough to analyze in the lyrics from dubnobasswithmyheadman to fill up an entire master's thesis, in my opinion. Listening to Karl sing Dirty Epic in Denver was almost too personal and intimate — it gave me chills.

yeah, the entirety of dubno makes sense to me, although not really as one cohesive story. i can actually fit BF into a cohesive story, i did it a while back.
