View Full Version : Unique KOS improv lyrics in Tokyo?

I was listening to the Tokyo broadcast from 11/25/05 this afternoon, and I noticed that at 7' 20" into King of Snake, Karl does an improv with lyrics I've never heard anywhere else.

I'm a little surprised, since the lyrics seemed fairly well-developed but haven't shown up elsewhere.

Are they unique to this gig?

Karl improvises with lyrics during a lot of gigs, and indeed does this sometimes during KoS.
I think I remember U2 lyrics, Rolling Stones...

Good catch — I'd forgotten that we already had a thread (http://www.darktrain.org/dirty/forums/showthread.php?t=2648) re: Karl singing bits of other tunes.

I tried to transcribe what he was singing here, but the audio in my copy is too muddy to make anything out other than "Tokyo, Tokyo..." about halfway through.

1999 Fuji Rock Festival has "Hey Hey, we're The Monkees" during King of Snake. :)

Edit: Bah, already mentioned in that other thread. It makes me smile though.

Yes Karl often uses lyrics from other songs like on fuji 03 on Rez he used U2s With or without you, or on Benicassim he sings Johnny Cash Hurt, i even saw him "sing" "wariors come out to play" words from the movie i think in 1996 Rainbow 2000 during Pearls girl.

Oh dear Jole you crossed a line with The bang!
Hurt was Nine Inch Nails but i think Johnny Cash's version is better.......

Well according to what i've read around here, there's some mutual respect between UW and NIN, so who knows.

That may be so but i ve heard Karl mention Johnny Cash on many occasions like at the end of jumbo on bootleg babies i think, so there maybe wasnt mutual respect, unless Johnny liked electronic music, but i think Karl definitely is a fan of Johnny Cash.

what does that have to do with anything

I guess I'm more interested in improv lyrics that are original to UW but are only delivered once... a hapax legomenon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hapax_legomenon) of Underworld's live lyrics, if you will.

no, those are spoonman lyrics and they kind themselves in KOS an awful lot.

the best version of 'hurt' (http://youtube.com/watch?v=57ta7mkgrOU) :)

the only thing that annoyed me about the cash version was where he changed the lyrics.... 'thorns' my arse.
