17th, 18th, 19th OCTOBER
Underworld Live from the Roundhouse, London,
in association with Apple/Quicktime,
On 17 - 19 October Underworld will play 3 sold-out shows at the legendary London venue, the Roundhouse. Following on from their groundbreaking Web-TV broadcast from Cocoon Club (Frankfurt, 2006), Underworld mark the release of their latest studio album "Oblivion with Bells" by teaming-up with Apple/QuickTime to broadcast (free-to-air) all three Roundhouse shows Live from their website (www.underworldlive.com (http://www.underworldlive.com)).
Long-time Underworld collaborator Simon Taylor (tomato) will be directing the broadcasts from the Roundhouse with the help of members of the Roundhouse Studios. While the Roundhouse is perhaps best known as a music and performing arts venue, at its heart is the Roundhouse Studios, located beneath the Main Space, a creative space for young people with high quality equipment and facilities for young people to engage with artists, professionals and their peers in order to develop and realise their creative aspirations.
The broadcast will be live and available to all, for free at www.underworldlive.com (http://www.underworldlive.com) (www.underworldlive.com/live-on-air (http://www.underworldlive.com/live-on-air)) from 8pm (UK) on 17th, 18th, 19th October).

Underworld and Radiohead albums in the same week. Off to the 17th and 19th shows and can now watch the 18th at home. I think I'm going to explode with joy. God knows what I'm going to be like by next Wednesday.

I have the 17th off of work but am working the 18th-19th so I was originally worried that I wouldn't be able to catch the last two. Totally skipped my mind that it would be UK time, so I should be able to catch all of them! Sweet.

Help!
I've installed Quicktime 7.2 ahead of the webcasts, and it's totally horsing my PC every time it runs - wonky screen resets and odd noises galore. When I do get it to run and play video, I might as well be watching a potato painting class for catatonics. Are there any third party apps that will handle these streams? Otherwise I'm going to have to beg a laptop from someone for three days and I don't want to think about the kind of favours they'll want for that.
(Hands up: I know it's my own fault for having a shitty old Celeron-based nondescript beigebox, but it manages everything else ok-ish. Spot the power user.)

Basically, the QuickTime streams use H.264, the most advanced video codec, which produces high-quality, small-filesize videos. The trade-off is that it requires much more horsepower to decode than older video codecs. If you're on a PC, you're going to need at least a 1.5-2 GHz CPU to decode the video smoothly. You can't really substitute anything for the raw CPU power needed to decode the video.

Ah. Thanks. Looks like I'm stuffed then! Time to start begging mates for a loan of a laptop...
