Yes, we've all asked for it, and it's happening!

Having forked out £15 at the Birmingham gig, I hold in my hands UWRLIVECD-002, "Underworld; Birmingham Academy. England 9.10.2007", thanks to www.liveherenow.com (although that domain appears not be 'for sale'?) (http://www.liveherenow.com)

Double CD, gatefold digipack, available 5 mins after the gig. No tracklisting yet, but it says 'Tracklisting and exclusive content: www.underworldlive.com/liverecordings' on the discs.

The flyer and poster say 'Also available by mail order' (I'll scan and upload when I'm back in London).

Pleased to say it sounds great too, and the gig was an absolute blinder!

I assume there was a CD 001 at Southampton?

awesome! (and unfortunate, because I have the feeling the only way I'll get my hands on one of these is by paying outrageous sums on eBay)

Lx_Nen

it says 'also available by mail order', so you might just have to fight the gorilla in the members area to get one... I think the problem might be more to do with affording 1 per night!

Well, I'm going to tomorrow night's show too, so I'll be able to answer that one soon.

TheBang
10-09-2007, 04:58 PM
Seriously, if there's one for every night the rest of the tour, that's going to be £360.

Edit: Found the site: www.liveherenow.co.uk

9th October > Academy > Birmingham
13th October > Academy > Glasgow
16th October > Apollo > Manchester
17th October > Roundhouse > London
18th October > Roundhouse > London
19th October > Roundhouse > London

Further shows from the tour will be available soon.

Looks like shipping (to the U.S.) is £2 for the first disc, and £1.50 for each additional disc. For the U.K. it looks like £1 for the first disc, and £0.75 for each additional disc

Temporary tracklist for this one... as far as I can work it out ;-)

Sound quality is excellent, as you'd expect from an official recording from the desk, crowd noise is there only when appropriate, as per 'everything everything'.

CD1
1. tail end of dj set, a poem about birmingham, Dark Train (total 9:27)
2. Cowgirl/Rez (total 10:44)
3. ??? [has 'vision, come on' lyrics] (12:27)
4. ??? don't trip on it? into Crocodile (total 10:00)
5. Can you feel this bass into King of Snake (total 12:29)
6. ??? (I Really ought to recognise this, but it's late!) into Glam Bucket (total 11:01)
CD2
1. Two Months Off (9:51)
2. Kittens (11:20)
3. Beautiful Burnout (11.47)
4. Born Slippy.nuxx (11:30)
5. Pearls Girl (8:00... song finshes at 5:50, then crowd noise to encore)
6. Jumbo (9:13)

Just today I was listening to Everything, Everything in the car - if there's the same dynamics is THAT album here (in terms of sound quality) then I'm going broke. I forgot how much I loved that album, I got chills not from the guitar in Juanita but just from knowing it was coming! (STITI never did that for me) The Tokyo set was also phenominal. Anyways did they ever play something like Scribble or Darc on the new tour??

obviously this is an excellent idea... i suspect that it would have been a bit much to ask for advance warning of this happening, but hey... i didn't check teletext this week....

for those who are not bothered by material things, then downloads are also available on live here now of previous bands shows so i assume this will be the case with UW, although i suspect the cd is worth having...

i also suspect that as with other bands shows, cds will be available to order long after the events for those who missed them

Hoping that Dirty Epic and Luetin might get a play at one of the other gigs getting recorded.

It's an awesome idea by the way. It's definately the way forward.

I wonder if someone from the Underworld crew is helping the Live Here Now guys do the track splitting each night.

Let's see at GBP15 a pop, plus 9.50 for shipping to the US, that makes about 100 pounds or just over $200 for the 6 shows announced so far. Ouch.

you know... I REALLY doubt that we're going to get another dvd

at least - as a stand-alone dvd for this current tour. I mean, just b/c we've seen them record the shows, doesn't mean that there's something planned.

Come to think of it... at an UW show - when haven't you seen one or two people near/on stage video-taping?

I'd almost wage that you're more likely to see either an updated "Footwear Repairs..." or something that's a cross between "Footwear Repairs" and the Prodigy's "Their Law" dvd

but yea - I'm definitely going to get like... one or two shows for sure, then - depending on the tracklistings, get whatever I'm 'missing'

(edit)
oh and btw - there is a dvd i've seen on some random torrent sites of a sizeable portion of a show (if not a whole show, I forget) from that "Riverrun Tour" (or whatever you want to call it) - it was professionally shot for tv. So no cool features or bonuses, but at least you get a live concert. - before anyone PM's me... I'm sorry, but I really don't have the time right now to start burning dvd's

Hopefully so. Soundboards should have much better fidelity and balance than Joe Bootleg's recording, which usually suffers from (or in some cases benefits from) nearby banter and the everpresent "WOOOOO!" (my girlfriend was listening to the Central Park UW show recording, and commented on the amount of Wooooing going on. But as Karl says, "Celebrate!"). However, a downside to these encore-type shows is that sometimes the EQ isn't lovely (maybe the bass too high or low) and depending on your tastes, it can sound a little sterile without more crowd reaction.

All that said, i'm definitely looking forward to these, esp. the 3 london gigs, as they'll surely surprise each night with different tracks/order.

TheBang

The way I look at it, there's a limited press-run for these. Probably less than the 7000 made for Electraglide. And if you want to buy that one now, it'll cost you $200, if you can even find it.

Might as well spend the $200 now for all of them. If you ever, ever want one in the future, it'll probably cost you more than $30.

This is how i'm going to justify ignoring this crap.

Are these CDs in any way being released in co-op by Underworldlive.com.....no? then they aren't real albums, and a waste of my time and money.

just because Underworldlive.com is going to have tracklistings for the gigs up on the sited, doesn't mean they're doing it for the people that bought these CDs. their myspace has tracklistings for the US shows too.

and i don't get this - what are they doing? making the CDs of the show at the show? these things aren't CDRs are they. i hope the f*ck not. how do you buy a real pressed 2xCD pack of the show you were at right after it ends? there's a time frame issue problem here.

How can you say they "aren't real albums"? It is a co-op between the band, their management and the company that specialises in doing this. Of course it's a "real" album. It's a soundboard recording of the gig.

These are official Underworld releases. They have underworldlive.com catalog numbers. They have Underworld/Tomato artwork (click on the Buy or Pre-order link for each one to see the artwork).

http://www.underworldlive.com/liverecordings will be in support of these recordings. Tracklistings will be posted there after the fact because the tracklistings aren't known ahead of time in order to be printed to the packaging.

From the FAQ (http://www.liveherenow.co.uk/support/faq.html):
Why do you use CD-R discs and not factory pressed 'silver' CDs?
We use CDR Media as it is impossible to 'factory press' the CDs in under 10 minutes. Aside from the problem that CD presses are precision equipment and would not react well to going on tour, CD replication in a factory requires the production of a glass master, a process which can take several hours. The CDR Media we use are Taiyo Yuden. They are of the highest quality, and excel in the areas of audio quality and longevity and error rate. For some info on CDR quality go to http://www.cdmediaworld.com.

woh, hey its cool. i sometimes forget how personally everyone takes this stuff.

usually when something like this comes along i avoid it altogether simply because there is too much being offered and i'm an all or nothing type of guy when it comes to this sort of thing.

i didn't know they were Underworldlive.com catalog numbers because they didn't seem like any of the other cat numbers, i.e. Live in Tokyo (UWR-00000something). if anything i'd really rather purchase a show that i was at.

i'm not too hot on the idea of CDRs at all even though that's the only way it could have been done at the time. i've spent a lot of money on a CDR release before and afterward didn't feel like it was worth it. guess i'd rather wait and get a factory CD set, had it been offered.

thanks for the info and putting up the pic of the album.

I'll get the ones I'm going to... and maybe the others if the tracks or arrangements are different. Comparing the youtube clip from Boston to the Birmingham and Norwich gigs, I think Bamboo is 'getting worked out live on stage' as King of Snake was, so it might get better/more experimental as the tour goes on.

For reference, here's a list of tracks that UW have played on this tour so far that are NOT on the Birmingham CD:

Luetin
Dirty Epic
Spikee
Skyscraper
Juanita
Mo Move
New Train (not sure how this differs from Dark Train?)
Rowla
You Do Scribble
Moaner

If there's a Norwich CD, it would cover 4 of these (Dirty Epic, Rowla, Moaner, You Do scribble)

TheBang
10-12-2007, 11:06 AM
New Train (not sure how this differs from Dark Train?)
They're the same. My suspicion is that long ago UW originally were calling it New Train to distinguish it from early versions of Dark Train that they used to play live which were significantly different from the Dark Train as we know it on album releases.

might have been the pixies, i think. i remeber p-fork losing their heads over it.
then big labels were like "wtf is this you cant do this unless we're seeing money from it and we're not interested in doing this anyway so we'll buy out whatever companies are doing this. bye."

ah yes.

It's not that hard. Someone can be monitoring, mastering, and tracking throughout the show. With just 2 or 3 High-speed, high-capacity CD-R duplicators like this:

http://www.stordigital.com/roboticdvdcdcopy1000.html

you can pump out 300-400 discs per hour. Those duplicators only cost about $2000-3000 each. The packaging and CD-R's can be pre-printed and pre-silkscreened.

According to their website, Live Here Now has been doing this since Dec. 2004. I think InstantLive was also doing it at least since 2004, because they did all the PWEI Reformation gigs in Jan. 2005, including a DVD release at one of the shows.

Moaner

If there's a Norwich CD, it would cover 4 of these (Dirty Epic, Rowla, Moaner, You Do scribble)

and Kittens as well.

yeah i was going to say that about Pearl Jam doing the mass diskings of live shows.

so i thought the Live in Tokyo 3x factory CD album was available right after that show as well, am i wrong? how was THAT done?

They took orders from attendees at both the Osaka and Tokyo shows. They were factory pressed, and then mailed out about 2 weeks after the show.

Although it would be nice to have a rick approved mastered live cd of every event, they've done that with Tokyo so.. the way they are (I think) they move on to a new experience or project and that is releases at the gigs. Same discusion perhaps as the riverrun releases, yes we want them on cd, but that wasn't the idea behind it.

I checked the mail today for the Birmingham show that I ordered, but no dice. Maybe tomorrow or Thursday. I checked my bank statement to see that I was finally charged for my order. It was $37.65 US.... Man the US dollar is taking it in the shorts right now on the markets. I forgot about the shipping fee for sending it across the Atlantic. I was also charged 38 cents for a foreign transaction fee. Anyone else get charged for something like that by their bank?

I ordered the first individually at 3.5 gbp shipping. The second order was the last five at 9.5 gbp shipping. If you're going to do it, do it all at once. Saves you about 1.5 pounds per disc.

That's pretty standard when the transaction is charged in a foreign currency. The charge is usually about 3% of the transaction total, but you should consult your card agreement to be sure, or call your card's customer service number.

The Manchester setlist was something like this, but I am sure I have missed something. It was one of the best gigs I have ever seen, great performance and atmosphere.

actually,
the statistical reality of the tracklistings being similar
is much higher now than it used to be..

based only on this tour...you are guaranteed to
see about 3/4 of the same songs...it looks like..

not saying they will be note for note exact..
but the setlists overall will be very similar..

this happened during the latter 'beaucoup fish' tour,
and also during the 'adho' tours....but not so much
from the early tours, and the 'riverrun era'....

You also have to keep in mind though that songs like 5 Foot 5, Small Conker and a Twix, and Shake That Higher are not usually enumerated on the setlists, and people often don't know the names of them in order to report them later. I know that all 3 of those have been played more than are accounted for on this list. In fact, 5 Foot 5 is probably into the double digits for the number of times played.

Here are some other trends for this tour I noticed:

The show is bisected by the Inflatables segment. The Inflatables segment always starts with Two Months Off and is followed by an instrumental number (during which Karl leaves the stage). The instrumentals have been chosen from Rowla, Kittens, Mo Move, Spikee, and (I think) You Do Scribble.

In the first half of the show, we get an opener, and maybe another song, then usually Crocodile. Beautiful Burnout follows a couple songs later.

Glam Bucket is often played in the second half of the show, but sometimes appears in the first half, or is sometimes not played.

NUXX, King of Snake, and Jumbo are pretty much guaranteed for the last half. Jumbo is always the encore (except for one show, I believe), and there's always a "Karl cam" for KoS.

I didn't get mine today in the mail (here in Phoenix). I have a confirmation order email from last Thursday the 11th. It stated:

This is to let you know that we have just despatched the following items:

1 x TUE 9 OCT 07 - Birmingham Academy (CD Album)

I believe the website stated to allow a week for the order. So it should be anyday now. I'm eagerly waiting to crank it up to 11 in my car tomorrow..

Looks like it'll be next week for me. :(

I wish we got a tracking number or something with these.

London 2 was definitely a lot better than London 1.

yes, but he didn't ask which show was better, he asked what he should buy if he wants dark and heavy.

with You Do Scribble, KoS, PU, Rowla and Moaner, i think London 1 most closely fits the Dark and Heavy reqs.

King of Snake
10-20-2007, 11:10 AM
Night 2 had Kittens and Skyscraper (and also KOS and Moaner of course)
I dunno, I wouldn't call either show more "dark and heavy" than the other, but the 2nd show was definitely the better show overall.
And I was there so you can stfu BLD!

i think it was just that the crowd was better on London 2. doesn't really make up for no You Do Scribble (which was my first time hearing it) and no Rowla. i'm more of a Spikee fan than a Skyscraper fan....especially if they don't play the comedown ending to it which is like the best part. be a great encore if they did it.

Nope. That is over-simplifying it, imo. Irrespective of tracklist, the band did a much much better job on Thursday. Whether that was in response to a better crowd or not I don't know, but they were on much better form.

My Birmingham cd arrived today "with brilliant timing" (it's my birthday today :) ) and it is simply faaantastic! Track 3, whereby "Five ft 5" morphs into the new track Bamboo, is 13 minutes of u/w at their best - just stunning!! I have now ordered the Glasgow and Manchester cds, which, together with the 2 Roundhouse cds purchased at the gigs, will make a full set :D

In my experience, post from the UK to the States can sometimes take a few days, other times take a coupla weeks or more. (Also it depends on whether they are sending it airmail or surface.)

Also, while our postal strike finished properly some 10 days ago now, there will still be a backlog to deal with, which slows things down. I am still waiting for my Crocodile CD from Amazon which was sent out to me on 10th October. :(

I got my two Londons this morning and they were posted out first class on Tuesday. Normally that would mean next-day delivery. So the post here seems to be on "catch-up" still

But they only have a limited number of pre-printed packaging and silkscreened CD-R's. It is "a series of limited edition live CD recordings." Given that they haven't sold out of the first set yet, I think dubman will be fine, but they WILL sell out at some point, and then they will not be repressed.

Subject: [Live Here Now] order despatch confirmation

Hello Todd,

This is to let you know that we have just despatched the following items:

1 x MON 28 JAN 08 - Palladium Koln (CD Album)
1 x TUE 29 JAN 08 - Maassilo Rotterdam (CD Album)
1 x WED 30 JAN 08 - Heineken Music Hall Amsterdam (CD Album)

1 x THU 28 FEB 08 - London Roundhouse (CD Album)
1 x FRI 29 FEB 08 - London Roundhouse (CD Album)

So, two things:

1. Is "despatch" one of those British vs. American spelling things?

2. The boys sure have been busy. They've perfected time travel now too?

Well, as I understood it, your point was that because they have the masters they can make as many copies as they want to fulfill demand, and that they won't sell out.

While it's technically true that they could continue to make copies ad infinitum, as I understand it, these are limited edition runs and once they sell out, they will not be repressed ever. So while the shows may all be available now, I would be safe rather than sorry, and order the ones you want sooner rather than later.

It's the tricky balance between "order now so I don't miss out and can listen to everything" or "order in a month when I can combine all the shipping and save a chunk on bringing stuff across the Pond" -- I'm erring on the side of the later (seeing as none of the original line have sold out yet)...

yeah,
not to sound too hypocritical...but yes, i will buy all of them
as soon as they are available...maybe because i can actually
afford them now (as opposed to when i wasn't working)...

so i do agree, you should get them when possible,
why in the world don't they have an mp3 download

My 4 mainland Europe re-sched liveherenow cds arrived today (making a current run of 9, plus the Oblivion Ball ) and wow, what a collection this is turning out to be! The improvs, the old tracks, the re-workings (a totally stripped down "Jumbo"), the original "Born Slippy" - (I didn't even know that an "original" existed (?!). The whole kaboodle has now been burned onto my new super-duper 80gig iPod classic @ the sublime apple lossless (my 30gig 5th generation iPod is already full!) Looking at the JPEG image at the top of the live recordings page, http://www.underworldlive.com/liverecordings , there are cover (edges) showing for Berlin and Frankfurt, although they do show the original 2007 date.

Perhaps they were originally scheduled for LiveHereNow releases, but the rescheduling of the shows meant they could no longer record them.

The four shows from January this year are amazing, a lot of surprises and old 'gems' not played for a long time. Really great performances.

My Koln disc 2 was the same fate!!! can we claim? whats the situation?

Yup, I used the contact form, and e-mailed help@liveherenow.co.uk, which is where the order notification came from. No response yet, but then it was Friday night. I'm a little trepidatious, because I've made several inquiries about things before, and they've never responded. However, it was never regarding an order screw-up like this, so hopefully they'll be more responsive.

I've mailed them several times about a lost order back in November and never got a reply. So I had to order two of the gigs twice.
Has anyone ever heard anything back from an inquiry?

So, I looked at the packing invoice for my LHN order, and it's dated Feb. 8, 18:47 at the top, and Page 15 of 53 at the bottom.

I looked at my order from last year, and it's dated Oct. 22, 7:57 and Page 1 of 1.

Anyone else got any numbers? Just wondering if it'll give any insight as to the sales numbers for these things. I think we can pretty much assume that 99% of the orders being printed up are for Underworld CD's, since that's been their only active project since last September.

well i don't think the contact form page is working, so i wouldn't advise using that. try, like yannick said in another thread, using this email: help@liveherenow.co.uk - although I still haven't heard back from them.

Mine just came in the mail today. My order says page 18 of 53. Luckily the packaging isn't cracked like someone had mentioned in another tread. I'll post when I find out if the CD's are correct and have music and/or no duplicate CD's.

EDIT 1: I just did a quick run through of my order and the CDs seem to play fine. I thought there might be a duplicate in the mix even though the labels were correct.

I can't explain why mine worked out, but others did not. I clearly lucked out. I must have sold my soul and didn't know it.

Best of luck to all getting your orders corrected.

2. The boys sure have been busy. They've perfected time travel now too?

Greetings all,

The London shows arrived in the mailbox today (March 27th). For those interested, I paid for them on March 3rd, received the dispatch email on March 7th. The paper that came with the order states 'page 80 of 96'.

This happened to be the quickest from beginning to end that I've received my order out of the four that I placed. The others took about 3 to 5 days longer. I live in Phoenix, Arizona. So others stateside should be getting them soon *crosses fingers*.

*notes about the CD*
The Roundhouse 2/28 CD has the club's logo and website on the CD's and packaging.
Everything dated 2007 on other CD's are dated as 2008 here.
