Its got slow beats and Karl vocals and an ambient groove. I like it. Its better than Good Morning Cockerel anyway and should have been on the album in its place.

I like it, too
it fits on the disc with an odd 15 minutes to spare, but it doesn't quite fit with the rest of the sounds on OwB. still a great track, maybe we'll see it again on that upcoming EP ;)
note: this EP doesn't technically exist yet

For those thinking of ordering from Japan, I'd recommend CDJapan. The album is 3200 Yen but the cheapest post (1-3 weeks surface mail) is only 500 Yen. Next is hmv.co.jp which is 2850 Yen with post (airmail) and postage is 1500 Yen. Then theres Amazon.co.jp which is 2850 Yen and a ridiculous 2700 Yen + 300 Yen per item, so 3000 Yen postage.
CDJapan: 3700 Yen

Just heard it and WOW ITS GREAT!!!
Hands down one of the absolute best songs on the album and it's a fucking shame it's not on most copies of the cd. There's plenty of room for it on the cd so why can't the Japanese just get their special little bonus dvd and some remixes or whatever....are they really that nuts over bonus tracks, and is it the band or the label that bends over backwards to cater to this kind of stuff?!?
Underworld - guess you figure most fans will track the rare stuff down or import the Jap copy and it's no big deal....but I say, most Japanese won't even understand the words on Loads of Bird :p so why not give them something more experimental like Glam Bucket instead.
Still a great cd without it, but my overall "B+ rating" would have been changed to an A with this track tacked on I think.:)

i got my hands on this track back when this thread was first posted but i didn't really listen to it much or have anything to say about it. i had too many other tracks to catch up on and obsess over, so this one got back-burnered.
in hindsight, i wish i hadn't delayed. i pulled together a playlist i like to call "music for trains" (thank you eno) and this one made the cut. suddenly i find myself listening to it 6 or 7 times a day. every time i fire up the ol' ipod it's the first thing i select. it must have been a slow burn because it's fast become one of my absolute favorite songs. it's a very polydistortion/massive attack vibe.

I think it fits nicely with the album. I have it last after Best Ever but that's probably not the best place for it.
As for ordering from Japan... what a pain in the ass that can be. Back when JAL came out, I did the whole buy-a-japanese-itunes-gift-card thing. Dis.as.ter. I managed to get the tracks onto my machine and listen to them. But suddenly one day, they were locked and I was told by my computer that I no longer have the rights to play this music and it shall remain locked. Can't burn it, copy it to the iPod, nor convert it to aiff etc.

I love this song. It haunts me. It has a very dark feel to it.
On the movie Sunshine, a version of it repeats throughout the film. I wish the version from the movie would be released some day, but that's another thread.
With the Japanese iTunes stuff, I've had a similar problem. I also got locked out of songs I purchased. What I did was this:
In iTunes go to Edit->Preferences->Advanced->Importing.
From there I changed the "Import Using" to MP3 encoder and the "Setting" to "Higher Quality (192kbps)". You can set up the 4 checkboxes however.
I then went to my "Music" list and found the tracks that were locked. I right clicked on them and selected convert selection to MP3. Each one took about a minute to convert. When it was done, I was then able to play, burn and export the new MP3 to my iPod. I then deleted the original locked file I got from iTunes. It's convuluted, but it's a great way to use iTunes against itself to unlock the tracks you already paid for.
This may or not help, but it did work for me.

yeah after the excitement died down karl is actually pretty weak on this one and the whole thing sounds a bit cliche. the bitcrushing and "WAOWWAOW" is a nice effect but the strings and the rest pushed the 'cinematic' vibe of the album a bit too hard.

Last time I tried this, it told me it couldn't recode it because it was drm locked. Itunes really sucks sometimes.
I've had that happen too. Honestly, I have been able to recode/convert about 40% of the locked tracks I've tried. The other 60% I get that DRM Locked crap. Why this trick works on some "locked" tracks and not others is beyond me.
Stupid iTunes.
TheBang

Some tracks sold by iTunes are iTunes Plus, which lack any DRM controls, so you can transcode those. For those that are "locked", put them into a playlist, and then burn that playlist to an audio CD (click the "Burn Disc" button in the bottom right corner). Once they are on the audio CD, they are standard, unprotected CD Digital Audio, and you can rip them to any format you wish.
For those of you having trouble just playing them in iTunes, what exactly is the error you're getting? You shouldn't have trouble playing them unless you've forgotten your Apple ID and password that you purchased the tracks with. Or if you exceeded 5 computers authorized with your Apple ID. If that's the case, log into your iTunes account, by going to the iTunes Store, and pressing "Log In" or your Apple ID in the upper-right corner of the Store. On Your Account screen, it will show how many computers are authorized. If you've reached the limit (5), a button will be available to "Deauthorize All" so you can start over.

at first i was a little miffed but im pretty glad it's not on the album as a regular release. it's a bit cheesy.

but if you''re looking to itunes, then you might want to check out "art of peace: songs for tibet" compilation. it has an alternate version of "to heal" with spoken bits called "to heal and restore broken bodies"
oh and just in case you missed underworld's web-only riverrun releases, they're available at the underworldlive.com shop along with a few other goodies.

i would have words with thee.
actually now i'm back to thinking this albums better than when i first got excited then 'realistic' about it. i've had the come down and i think i've trashed the album more than i should have in the process. boy, boy, boy isnt a good tune yet but it's familiarity makes it pretty okay, making ring road the only one that still really suffers. i like the rest of it a lot more.

Have words, then, Alan!
I used to like Crocodile, but now it sounds too bland and boring. I do like Beautiful Burnout, Holding the Moth, and Best Mamgu Ever. Boy, Boy, Boy I do kinda like, but most of this album is not something I'm going to turn to listen to very often. Loads of Birds is just deep and dark and sexy, and maybe you think it's cheesy, which I don't see, and obvious, which I don't care because it does what it set out to do and did it well. It gets me in a mood whenever I listen to it, and I can't say for much of the album.

i won't stand for this badmouthing of glam bucket. i'm dangerously obsessed with that track.
also, i will say this about loads of birds: it doesn't really sound like an UW track. it's distinctly different from any of their other works. every time i listen to it i'm reminded of gus gus's "remembrance" on polydistortion, but glitchier and more contemporary. same mood, though.

not to totally get off topic, but i partially agree with this statement. it's definitely not the greatest recorded track, but it is extremely amazing live. first time i heard this track was at the Bowl and I was floored.
as for Loads of Birds - it took me a while to appreciate it. at first ear, i didn't care too much for it - but now i'm digging the repititious drumbeat.

From a LoB topic it turned into what are the best OWB tracks. FINE! BEST MAMGU EVER. Someone on the forum told me that Mamgu means Granma in Welsh. Put some psychology behind it and its obvious that someone's had a special connection to his grandma...perhaps she made the best(fill in the blank...a staple Welsh dish) or she knitted really nice sweaters. This track is veery carefully produced, well though off and tender and the pads are drifting and its just marvelous. I love it and nothing else compares to it. Maybe BB because it's also very emotional and deep but BME takes it all.
