what are the dates in SF?

Sep 7, 8. They're listed on underworldlive.com

This may adjust my plans slightly now. If only they would come up to the Northwest now but once again it seems like SF is the closest they will get.

Why is there two dates in san fran and only one in LA? :(

BrotherLovesDub

SF clearly pwns LA. i wouldn't want to see Underworld in LA if i got free airfare and free tix. i'd rather pay money to see them in SF.

Apparently because Karl loves City Lights bookstore. ;) Must be something about beat poetry.

BLD has never been one to shy away from controversy to make a point. Just take it with a pinch of salt and read between the lines. He doesnt like LA thats all.

I knew there were SF gigs coming but I wasnt allowed to say :) Still, i'd love to make it over there but its not gonna happen. I dont arrive in NYC til the 7th!

i can understand not liking LA, but I think the hollywood bowl is a magnificent venue for the boys. i'd rate it just a hair behind red rocks as the best spot on the US tour.

I can buy the argument that Red Rocks would be a great venue just for the sheer surrounding nature...but Hollywood bowl?...with a capacity of 17,416?

The Warfield is small and intimate (capacity 2250)...less than half the size of Brixton.

I think the coolest venue on this tour is Central Park, anyway. It's outdoor, natural and urban, and perfectly suits the Underworld aesthetic.

I dropped my LA plans as soon as these two dates were announced. The venue is wonderful!

Furthermore, I saw the boys there in October 02, almost five years ago and it was perhaps one of the greatest shows I've ever seen. Not only did they open with Luetin(!), they played Little Speaker which as far as we've all been able to discern was the only time it was ever broken out live(!!), but I met Rick and Karl before the show getting my photo with them and was down in front right in front of the board(!!!).

Alright, I'm a bit too excited about everything, but it was just such a damn memorable and enjoyable experience that I can't help it!

haha, i was up there with you (though neither of us knew it). i didnt get to meet 'em, but i did go pretty wild. great night.

if i can, i WILL overdraw my bank to see them at least once if not twice.
i practially shouted "oh shit" in a room full of younger cousins when i saw this.

Thats true dubman, you were also four people in front of me in line waiting outside the Warfield for about three hours, though, once again, neither of us knew it. You were first in line, If I'm not mistaken.

Are you planning on getting there that early again?

Yeah, I'm not quite overdrawn on this trip, but it's dipping into my a vacation fund to go see a friend in France early next year. But two shows of underworld is worth it.

dirty meet?

dubman
07-29-2007, 11:23 AM
haha, oh man. i got there pretty damn early but i dont think i was first in line. i was closer to the strip joint where they were playing pearl's girl at a weird speed. if i was first in line my legs would have killed me by then.
dirty meet is more than possible, i'm trying to bug my friends to go with (since i basically did the same for one of them to see silver jews), they should be okay with it...
i'm not great with money so i'm a bit short, but i *will* find a way.

Maybe my memory isn't as clear as it once was, I always thought you were first or second in line.

hehe...that strip joint, they were playing a bizarre mix of music, and standing in front of it for about three hours was less than ideal. Then there were the crazies roaming about.

By the end of that show and standing in line my legs hurt, but it was worth it. I don't know if my friend I'm potentially going to attend with is going to be too keen on getting to the show so early. She was at the show in 02 and was shocked to learn how early I had arrived at The Warfield.

I too was at that show...Didn't they also play a nice version of twist? The highlight for me was the guys playing Dirty Epic!
I thought the show at the Fillmore (just before Coachella) the following year was great too.

Tix must be going on sale soon for this...

I can't seem to find the email that I had transcribed the setlist but it was a pretty great and solid show. Luetin, dirty epic, and dark train were the highlights for me. There was no Pearl's Girl or Dinosaur Adventure 3D, but Little Speaker made up for that.

something did feel off though, especially at dirty epic (which was great because we were *screaming* for it and he just bows and it kicks in), he'd have a go at moving around a bit and then just stop.

made sense later when he updated uwlive and said he was feeling a little sick.

hopefully all will be well.

Went to underworldlive.com today and saw the SF show! Made my week.

However, I'm only seeing one SF show on the 7th, not one on the 8th like previously mentioned in this thread.

For those in SF, if you go to the Fillmore box office on (any) Sunday, you can get tickets without a service charge. I'll be there Sun morning!

Hey All,

presale is on today.

http://www.livenation.com/event/getEvent/eventId/293878/

use the password INDIE in the ticketrush box for early access.
it seems as though theyre only selling the floor, which seems to be general admission.

all tix are 50 bucks, and the tix i got were...
section FLOOR, row G1, seat 15/16/17

so i THINK thats in the pit. can anyone clarify?

Yeah, at the Warfield, if you have "floor" tix that gets you anywhere on the first level....the pit, the standing "tier" above the pit, or the bar "tier" above that.

Pancho Villa on 16th between Valencia and Market or Taqueria Can-Cun on Market between 18th and 19th would be my suggestions. Can-Cun always wins best taqueria from local weekly newspapers, but I prefer Pancho Villa (probably b/c it's a lot closer to my house that Can-Cun).

i read back on this thread because my boss is harassing me about being available on the 8th and i have to say yes or no pretty soon. and i found that yan *did* say that it was still on, they were just a bit too quick to announce it.

so i just said no and i'm assuming tickets become available for it soon-ish.

BrotherLovesDub
08-16-2007, 07:18 PM
my feeling is similar to yours dubman. i have heard they were going to do both nights, the 8th, a Saturday, has not been listed for the Warfield yet which leaves the door open for a 2nd UW show. i think they want to ensure the tickets for the first night sell well enough to justify the second night. i think there's prob. a set date and a set number of tix that need to be sold to get the 2nd night. i really have no idea if it works that way or not, but that's what i think is happening.

grady
08-17-2007, 12:50 AM
I still haven't booked my flight or hotel room on this simple matter because I keep waiting for that second show to be confirmed. It's the difference between me flying out on Saturday night vs. Sunday afternoon.

Correct me if I'm wrong SF dirts but the show in October 2002 still had tickets available the day of the show and could be purchased at the Warfield Box Office until around 6 to 7 pm.

I wasn't able to make it to the show in the Spring of 03 but did that show sell out prior to the day of the show?

BrotherLovesDub
08-17-2007, 09:11 AM
i don't think it has to sell out to guarantee a second date. it just has to sell well enough.

dubman
08-17-2007, 09:21 AM
i dont think either the 2002 or 03 show sold out, though the room definitely wasnt empty. IIRC the fillmore show was originally going to be at the bill graham civic auditorium until they moved it due to ticket sales :(

i dont know whats wrong with us.

tiesto (cock)
but seriously, underworld is very underrated (in every sense of the word) and to some extent are just plain out of most people's scope of awareness especially in a city like s.f. i think a lot of it stems from how the band promotes itself commercially on this side of the globe. a craptacular act like the crystal method (or a similar act) would sell their event out, primarily due to their constant propaganda stirring a mindless buzz which is easy to identify with.

underworld seems to be a bit underneath the radar (no point intended) when it comes to shoving marketing down your throat and in a lot of ways that’s a good thing. but in the interim a casual audience will oversight their existence and ability to put on a memorable set.

croomian
08-17-2007, 04:16 PM
Hi there,

Tickemtaster is still showing general admission (floor) seats for Friday, SEP 7. Unless the whole gig is general admission, which is not common at The Warfield as the upstaris is usually reserved seating, then I would say it's not selling too well.

If Underworld doesn't sell out this first date I can't really see the 2nd date selling well at all or even going forward at all, as we hope it would. I mean, I know the 2nd date would be a SAT and all so maybe it will pull more peeps, but sheesh...

i'm really trying to. i bought tickets for the first one today (finally), but after some number crunching i'm going to have to sell some goods to feel okay about blowing $140 total on two shows. (plus train fare, and i'll have to get some merch after)

the additional fees all mounted up nicely to an extra $17.50 being tacked on for each ticket. fuckers.

BrotherLovesDub, not to rub your face in it ... sorry :) but... I love the fact that for any Warfield or Fillmore show I can get tickets w/out service charges. I look at it for every 4th show I see at either location, I'm in essense getting a "free" show. Plus I always play ticket coordinator for friends, so I'm saving them cash too. Been thinking about a dirtymeet too. I'm going with nine other people to Fri's show, so that's out. Might meet up with a few co-workers for Sat, but am much more flexible then. Let me know if anything happens on Sat night. The Arrow bar would be a good place to meet. It's less than 50 yards from the venue and is a pretty cool bar. Crazy Horse was a joke. It's right next door to the Warfield and a (female) strip joint. Last tour some dirties were camping out before the show and could hear the music coming from the place. Supposidly they played a version of Pearl's Girl that was mixed with some other song or speed up or slowed down or something. It was coined the "Pearl's Girl -- Crazy Horse mix"!

Arrow bar is probably the best option for a dirtymeet. But I'm not sure what time it opens. But it is within 50 yards of the Warfield

Two days left!

i'm coming in at around 2:30, meeting with a friend at around 4:00, drop stuff off, meet his roomies, reassure them i'm not a hobo and then get to the place between 6:30 or 7?

if there's a meet up i've lost my ID for ages now and still haven't replaced it just because i don't know, so the bar is out for me. i think i'm going to try and nab a small something to eat that's close to the place anyway.

I doubt it, but I will be bringing mine and stashing it on my person. In 02 I had a crappy disposable that I tucked into my wait around my belt. I only got the tisk tisk waving of the security guard in the front row when I took a few shots with the flash.

bar none, best live show I've ever been to.

(UW show #7).

granted, the set was similar to last night with little surprises, the Warfield was practically empty, but those down front were having a blast. I was about 5 people back, front and center. I was so exhausted from cutting loosE last night but the energy kept me jumping, and I mean JUMPING, all night long!

plus right when I left the venue, there was the F ready to take me back to Church street.

I'm still soaked in sweat, shower in a few mintute, then much needed sleep.

(I was the skinny boy with glasses and shaggy hair with the "I blacked out at Trannyshack" black t-shirt. meet a lot of cool people down front, not sure if they were dirty or not.)

z0mg GLAM BUCKET!

i'm in a daze. going to walk the city one more time before i head back home.

amazing show tonight. right on the barricade with 'grady' and my lady. UW played so good tonight...lots of long ambient outro/intro moments, several jams, karl going acapella before Cowgirl, Spikee! and the icing on the cake had to be the debut of Glam Bucket, or what i think is the debut since we don't have set lists from all the shows. Anyway, it's an amazing song, esp. live where after 5 minutes or so of lush rolling ambient bliss accented with plenty of spangly guitar for kark, the kick drum drops. it easily exceeded the beauty of the LP version.

great to meet you and your girl, BLD! :)

glam bucket was definitely the highlight for me. one of my fave tracks on the new album - it translated beautifully to the stage.

a little under 12 hours till the bowl :) :)

Another amazing night at the Warfield. It was more or less empty, or so it seemed, but that didn't matter. I was able to get right up in front with BrotherLuvsDub and his lady.

The set list was pretty tight and moving. Glam Bucket was the highlight as well as hearing a bit of Shake that Higher which I was hoping would lead into some Dark & Long/Dark Train acapella. All in all, the show was really moving the entire evening. Skyscrapper and Crocodile were some good tracks to get everyone moving, but once Mo Move started it's build, things started moving.

Overall, a very different show from the previous night and exactly what was desired too

Sad to hear that the venue was rather empty...I hope this does not affect future possible shows in San Francisco...:(

Wish I had gone to both nights, but I had a family obligation on Saturday...still abuzz from Friday...and my calves are very sore from moving to the music :D

went to the first night, not the second (regrettably).

this was my second time seeing underworld, as i have to fly quite a ways to catch them when i do.

the show was, as expected, amazing. i left the venue on saturday with a warm, good feeling that i havent been able to kick. seeing karl giving it basically the stuff that makes you smile for hours. the reaction from the crowd was great (up front), but the smile on HIS face was what made the show. its obvious, both of them LOVE what they do and that feeling rubs off on us. despite some technical problems (with what seemed like his monitor and perhaps some sequencing) they pulled it off with an energy and emotion that ive never seen in another act before...since them

i remember when i saw them in 02 at the wiltern in LA, the feelig i had buzzing around in my head even at the airport returning home...and i really havent felt it again until friday night. seeing them reminded me why i love them, this music and even this board so much. they also reminded me how fun it was again to dance my fucking face off. i have no pictures except the ones in my head...but those are all i need.

and to those of you who were there with me, thanks for helping make the night the experience it was!

getting all emotional thinking about it. bah.
