Who's going? Where are you staying? What's the plan for a Dirty Meet? How's the sound at Red Rocks? etc.

Yeah, I'm going to be there. Not sure where I'm staying at the moment, but it'll probably be in Motel 6 in Wheat Ridge, which is where I'm staying for Daft Punk. Unfortunately, I don't know Denver well enough to suggest a place for a dirty meet. I'm open to suggestions, though.

Red Rocks is awesome. It'll be great. I was there in '99 to see Fatboy Slim and the Chemical Brothers, and I had no problems shaking my ass on the steps!

You're coming too Professor? Sweet! Okay, anyone know a good place to meet? From my experience, we need to get to Red Rocks about an hour before the show starts to get a decent parking spot and decent spot for the show. I don't know how long the show will last, but perhaps a dirty meet after the show? We need more details pretty soon.

I live in denver - work near red rocks - heck, I mtn bike there often. a few pointers to enjoy the red rocks experience.

- avoid heading to the concert via the town of morrison. approach from the north on highway 8.

- there are some motels/hotels a few miles form town in north golden. off of I-70 and highway 6.

- it will get chilly at night - bring warm clothes.

- if it rains - it will get real cold.

- it's never too loud - but I would like to see what UW can crank out.

- built in the 1930's depression putting young men to work.

- one of the best places to ever see a concert.

so brother luvs dub and myself will be staying at a best western in lakewood. we fly in about noon on the 11th--i think the plan is to tool around denver until checkin, then food and kick it until show. we fly out directly the next day, so there won't be much time outside of the show. hopefully i'll meet some of you american dirts there. i've met a shit-ton of euro-dirts.... :)

Me & my wife are staying at the same Best Western I believe. It's only 6 miles from Red Rocks right? We're arrving the day before and meeting up with 5-6 other friends the day of the show. Would love to meet up with other dirts before heading to the show. :)

I'm staying at the Motel 6 in Aurora because I've stayed there before, and it's a really nice Motel 6 in a good neighborhood.

We need a sign or flag or banner or something like that to denote a dirty meeting spot at Red Rocks (since it doesn't sound like we're getting together before or after the show). Does anyone have something like that they can bring and wave around? We should have a group of dirts there, representin' and such.

Also, Protip, we need to get there, reasonably, an hour early and find a spot in the middle. It annoyed me to no end at Daft Punk having people walk in front of my while I was dancing. The middle is where it's at.

Like I've said, I don't know Denver well enough to say "Hey, let's meet here!" Not unless we want to meet in front of the Capitol Building. I know there's a street mall downtown with a Virgin Megastore, and that's about it.

more pointers: right outside red rocks is the small town of morrison. good eats and pregame drinks if needed. looking for 'wild' food - try the Fort - south of red rocks a few miles.

a good place to meet people outside the park before the concert is at the matthew winters or dinosaur parking lots. they are park and ride lots at I-70 and highway 8. 3 mile north of red rocks entrance.

a really good map of red rocks area can be found at:

looking forward to the show!

On the bright side, we won't have to climb up a mountain to get to it.

but.. i'll still get the hollywood bowl and central park - both great, historic venues in their own right, so i'll get my outdoor fix.

The Fillmore is pretty bland. I'm sure it is cheaper so I can see some band manager looking at the sales figures and checking off the one that gets more $$, but Red Rocks is so much more interesting.

I'm pretty sure it was a numbers game that caused the venue change.

One bright side might be that I think Red Rocks has a more limited end time, so they might be able to play longer at the Fillmore. Still, if you're flying in for the event, it is probably time to look at trading in your ticket. Red Rocks can hold a candle to NYC and SF, but the Fillmore? no way.

!!! I wonder if the weather forecast played a part, or they weren't going to fill the venue...?

I'm disappointed, I was really looking forward to the outdoors.

Red Rocks is usually a rain or shine...in fact, I haven't seen too many shows where it didn't at least sprinkle on you...it's just part of the experience...heh.

Summers in Denver usually include a late afternoon / early evening shower, but it's not too bad unless it's a true storm, then it can get nasty and windy.

I'm extremely disappointed that they moved this show to the Fillmore. I have nothing against the venue...it's not bad...in fact, Nine Inch Nails did a two night set there last year, but still, there's nothing to compare to Red Rocks, and experiencing nature, especially if you are enhancing your experience.

It's a LOT more intimate at the Fillmore, if that helps, but for me, I'd much rather see them at Red Rocks.

Damn...now I wish I had taken time off to go see the Hollywood Bowl concert or the Central Park one...grrr...wonder if I can still sneak out to either place and do it up right...

I heard from a friend that Fillmore Auditorium is smaller, so I don't know.

The Fillmore in Denver seats about 3,600, which is a far cry from the 9,000 that Red Rocks can hold...[sigh]

Ah well...at least we get to see them...after being a fan for almost 20 years, this is my first live show...

I will not let this get me down...I will not let this get me down...I will not let this get me down...I will not let this get me down...I will not let this get me down...I will not let this get me down...

The first email was recalled because it said Friday, September 11. They sent out another email confirming the venue change with the date corrected to say Tuesday, September 11.

I'm just trying to think of the bright side now... I think the sound of the Fillmore is better than Red Rocks, which can have some weird echoes. I can also take a bus to the Fillmore, so I can drown my sorrows after the show and not have to drive home. Hopefully that won't be necessary.

I would like to post two responses that I received from not only the promoters of the event, but the managers of Underworld in response to the open letter I posted, along with my reply.

I think it is important to see how much effort they put into satisfying the customer (and this excludes the free CD that Underworld themselves offered up!)

From P.L. @ LiveNation (Concert Producers)

I have received your correspondence from Chaotica regarding the change in venue for the upcoming Underworld show in Denver. First and foremost, please accept my sincere and heartfelt apologies for the inconvenience and disappointment this has caused you. Our top priority is to always deliver a first-class concert experience to you, our patrons. As a company, we take very seriously our responsibility to give both the artists and the fans nothing less than the best.

Live Nation is privileged to book shows at this one-of-a-kind amphitheatre and truly understand what a magical and unique venue it is. At the same time, being both a huge fan of Underworld and having attended countless shows as both producer and patron, A tough decision had to be made in order to preserve the integrity of an event such as an Underworld show.

The decision to move the show away from Red Rocks was extremely difficult for all parties. After much deliberation all parties agreed that seeing Underworld in any venue without the energy, the crowd-noise and the excitement is simply not the Underworld experience. Moving the show to The Fillmore would allow the band to bring the most electrifying show possible with a full-house of fans going absolutely nuts. At the end of the day, fulfilling this promise is the ultimate goal of Underworld and of Live Nation.

As concert promoters as well as fans (I was involved in promoting the DEMF in Detroit the first 2 years and the Delta Heavy Tour with Sasha and Digweed and S_____ K____ the Denver Marketing VP worked at Asterlwerks for years), we are firmly committed to promoting unique and diverse events. I would truly appreciate the chance to speak further. It is my goal to keep you excited about the show and confident in Live Nation¹s ability to deliver a quality experience.

Again, on behalf of myself, S_____ K_____, and the Denver office our deepest apologies for this unfortunate situation. I booked this show as a promoter and a fan with every intention of it being a special event for everyone. I do hope to get the opportunity to be your gracious hosts on Tuesday at the Fillmore and would love to make your experience there memorable, if your inclined please ask for me when you arrive. Despite all the disappointment, one thing I know for sure is that Underworld will blow the roof off the place and I want you to be there.

My Sincere Apology,

P____ L_____-
President
Live Nation/Rocky Mountain Region
From Chaotica (Underworld Booking Agents)
Dear Drew,

When you get to the venue tonight, please ask for P_____ L_______ at the box office, he will have VIP passes for you and will ensure you are well taken care of.

I hope that, despite your disappointment over the change of venue, you enjoy the show.

Best wishes,
C______ T_____

and finally my response:
The effort that you all have showed towards making me a happy fan is truly amazing. I will spread the word that you all are doing everything possible to ensure the best experience for your customers. You have shown me the professionalism and customer service that is almost impossible to find in this day and age.

That being said, I just checked my e-mail and received the messages from both of you. Although I commend you on your wonderful response, I got it a little late. Nevertheless, I had one of the most amazing times of my life and was able to share it with my friend. We arrived 1.5 hrs early, stood in line, and got straight to the front, where we stayed all night. When Karl took the stage and announced the free cd of their latest release, that was the perfect start to the night. All night long I was no more than 8 ft. from the stage. It was one of the most remarkable concert experience I have had to date.

That being said, I wish to apologize for my hasty response, to the venue change. I know it was a difficult decision, but both of your companies going above and beyond for me has really made me have faith in you all. Thank you for everything, and thank you for making this show possible. It was well worth the trip.

Wow, really cool show. Yeah Karl said we'd all be getting a free copy of OwB due to the fiasco of moving the show from Red Rocks.

Not exactly sure of the exact setlist, but basically this was it:

Dirty Epic
Crocodile
Dark Train
Beautiful Burnout
Rez/Cowgirl
New song? (Karl on guitar)
Can You Feel this Bass
Two Months Off
Spikee
Born slippy
King of Snake
Pearls Girl
Moaner

Encore: Jumbo

Somone else might be more accurate, I don't think I missed any though. It's late, I'm tired. But the show rocked, the crowd loved Rez/Cowgirl (as expected).

dude, that gig so ruled!!! overall i'm gonna have to say this experience was quite memorable over the warfield set. despite the venue change my mates and i made the most of our stay in denver... our host showed us around the area, got to check out red rocks (for kicks), the coors brewery, and the university of colorado to catch a little frisbee action. needless to say, seeing underworld properly punctuated the whole trip. our group added up to about 12 heads by the time we hit the fillmore... we were all glowing afterwards on the most natural of highs:) i was really digging on karl's guitar hero esque performance... would love to see more of that kind of shite down the road.

anyway...just got back into L.A. and am not looking forward to the 6hr. drive back to S.F. but, the memories from last night are still fresh and i'm looking foward to their company on the way home.

big hugs and much love to the boys for keeping it real and providing a clear map of inspiration for days to come.

Anyone who didn't go to Underworld in Denver just because they weren't playing at Red Rocks anymore: fuck you. This show was amazing and even better because I was about 20 feet away from Rick, Karl, and Darren. They were on their A game and upped it a multiple of 10, and the Fillmore Auditorium was banging and rocking until it exploded. The set list as best as I can remember:

1. Dirty Epic
2. Crocodile
3. Dark Train
4. Beautiful Burnout (I think)
5. Rez/Cowgirl
6. Glam Bucket (I think)
7. Two Months Off
8. Spikee
9. Five Ft. Five
10. Born Slippy .NUXX (non-'03 version)
11. King of Snake
12. Pearls Girl
13. Moaner

Oh yeah, Karl had an announcement before the show. Anyone who bought a ticket for the Denver concert would be receiving in the mail a copy of their new album when it comes out! FUCK YEAH!!! Take that all you who pissed and moaned and dropped out of the show!

The show was made all the better because everyone there wanted to see Underworld so badly. My friend Jeff from work came down with three of his friends (he's crazy and it was awesome to have him there), and I mingled with people who flew from Iowa and Nebraska (I think) and a couple of guys who drove, not flew, from Georgia. Damn. That's dedication right there.

Yes, yes, you should've been there.

Who was the dirt heading out of Seattle this morning at 7:45? We shared a plane, I accidentally bumped into your foot with my suitcase when I showed up to the gate, and said sorry. Didn't notice the "OWB" shirt until you passed me on the plane.

yeah, that was me. i was on the 12pm flight out of Denver today. i wore the shirt hoping to run into someone else going to the show. i guess i did run into someone, or rather got run into by someone going.

amazing show right?

Hey, I think that's me on the left walking to the stairs! And I met those two dudes in the middle. They drove from Georgia to see this.

And that IS me in the red shirt!

Dude, we were practically next to each other! I think that's my head poking up on the left over the black hat, and I met that girl in the blue shirt there.

I actually had brought a recorder down and planned on recording the show. The only trouble was when I walked by and noticed that they were giving a nice frisk to everyone. My recorder was a bit too large to just carry in my hand unnoticed, so I had to make the tough decision to leave it in the car.

Got my videos and photos uploading at the moment, now that I'm home safe. Got a gorgeous 3+ minute clip of Beautiful Burnout, and a closeup of Rick rocking out at the end of Glam Bucket.

Can I just say that their opening with Dirty Epic is literally bringing a tear to my eye right now??

i'm still on a high from the show that was over more than 48hrs ago. so many highlights but the Dirty Epic opening chords and seeing rick and karl jam out to Glam Bucket is certainly at the top of that list.

Couldn't post from my hotel, but three days later I'm still reeling. This concert was a peak experience for me, can not be surpassed in my lifetime -- unless maybe Red Rocks were packed with hardcore dirts dancing their asses off. Nothing compares to these guys, the spirit & love (and light) they bring. Perfect bliss. What a gift!

Here are all of my videos. 4+ minutes of Beautiful Burnout and the end of Glam Bucket are some of the highlights.

I was thinking of heading to NYC after the venue change (it's a bit closer to home), but I'm glad I ended up going to the Denver show.

All I can say is Underworld was amazing. Everything sounded so good, especially Beautiful Burnout and that new Moaner mix heheh. I used to live in Colorado when Two Months Off was released, so that brought back good memories.

Uploaded some videos, but beware, I had a hard time standing still. Sound quality should be ok though. :D

I think Underworld deserves extra love from this forum. Karl said himself that they lose money playing in the States, but going as far as to give everyone in Denver a free album? That's really going the distance. Hurray for Underworld! *toasts*

Aw, man.. It is so disheartening to hear that.

I think they just need better promoters... stupid Live Nation.

You know, a huge part of me was REALLY pissed   that they changed venues. After all, I did plan my entire vacation around seeing them at RR. I live in Dallas, TX and the wife and I could have gone to any of the US shows but decided on RR due to it being closest and it's FRICKIN' RED ROCKS!!!!!!! Any who, we were not online at all during our vacation and had no idea it had been changed until we drove up to RR around 3:30 and though it was strange that no one else were there. At the info desk we were told of the change. I almost cried. I am not super manly-man or anything but my heart was broken. We got a few pics of RR and drove into Denver. After attending the show, I was BLOWN AWAY!!!!! We saw them in Chicago in 02 and this show blew my frickin' mind! The energy, the crowd, the setlist, EVERYTHING EVERYTHING!!!!! I would like to appoligize to UW for cursing their names and sincerely thank them for prolly, no... definately the best show I have ever seen.
Just two other minor complaints.
1. Would it kill you guys to play Dinosaur Adventure 3-D live? I have all of the recordings from UWLive and EE and a few bootlegs but have never heard it live.
2. Why are the tour shirts selection so lame? There were twice as many Paul Oakenfold shirt as Underworld and they're the headliners!!! I did not buy a shirt in '02 and told my wife I regretted it but would buy one this time. They were lame. The purple/pink one I saw with the pre-order was the same on I saw at the show. The black one was alright but not worth $30. I love UW almost as much as anyone here, but...

On a side note, I joined RTSR but have no idea how to get on the boards. I receive e-mail notification of every post but that's it. Am I just a 'tard or what. I am wanting to get audio of both shows i have attended. Thanks guys, I just needed to vent.

I'd just like to say "thank you" to UW for making the Denver show so special. The set was fantastic! The new material is sooo good live. Thank you for "Dirty Epic," "Spikee," & "Rez/Cowgirl" - some of the best classics. The slammin' end percussion of "Beautiful Burnout" into "Rez" was just plain awesome. And many thanks for the album. We are humbly grateful for your generosity. There's must be a reason you are our favorite band of all time. Me & the wife are still smiling from your performance, esp. after watchin' some of the posted youtube vids. :]

I believe one day you will perform at Red Rocks and we will be there for it. Maybe summer time on a Fri/Sat night and better opener possibly? Paul's set was uninspired, at best, to create a mood for your upcoming performance. Only kudos I give him was playing Castle Trancelot "Indoctrinate." Sasha and/or John Digweed are waaay better openers in the States. Or possibly a double bill with The Chemical Bros. or The Orb? ;) :D Til next time Stateside in '08...[WMC, Coachella, Bonnaroo (?)]

I wasn't mad in ANY WAY after this show... it was litterally so great, well, you've all heard me ramble about it. I could care less where I see UW anytime, as long as I saw them... which I finally did!

PS this is a great quot from that article:

“A live band to us is anything. Whether it’s having a laptop or a Les Paul, they’re all instruments to us,” Hyde said. “We don’t have set lists and we don’t rehearse. We have no idea what we’re going to play when we get on that stage.”
