This indeed is the phoenix rising from the ashes of Ejekt. Poetic news, and much welcome.

Oh -- would this be an MK3 release? The press sheet didn't mention Darren but regardless my curiousity is aroused.

No switzerland gig this time around? A crying shame!

Guess that means I'll make the trip to my native Scotland to see them play in Glasgow, where there will be 10 times the atmosphere this country could ever provide! And then of course I'll jump on the train up to Frankfurt and hit the Cocoon club again.

Man, it's a tough life!

But, i have a friend in London..........If i can sort if with her, i'm coming down. Not gonna miss UW, never seen them play in their own setting.

I knew, I knew, it was...near, so close, these years, long years, Im happy now, its 2002 over again, we are still on the ... way, YAY!
Thats it, this is pleasure, like first time, when I heard old tunes in the 90`, It was, It was Underworld, I was a child, I heard the stuff on radio and now this time Im the child once again.

Today and tommorow, need love...
...pay later

Im happy!

I'm itching to know if there will be any more US dates as it seems like the month of August is pretty much free for the guys.

Another thing perculating in my mind at the moment is..... how soon before the album will spring a leak so to speak. It happened five years ago after the announcement of A Hundred Days Off near the end of June/start of July.

This is just great altogether. That album cover art is gorgeous, and very reminiscent of dubnobass. The tour seems to have room for more dates, so here's hoping that NI date and maybe an Irish date (or two...) goes up. Getting excited!

In looking closely at the artwork, it seems to me that the title is expressed in this manner:

OBLIVION (with bells)

I find it amusing, and it reminds me of The Truth (with jokes) (http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/0525949062/ref=s9_asin_image_1-serq_g1/102-5584746-2380945?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-4&pf_rd_r=0GWWK17J29M7QX1R1FK9&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=288448701&pf_rd_i=507846)

Okkkkkkkkkkkkk

Gutted i cant see them in my own bloody city as i'm on holiday. I arrive back home from Thailand on the 15th Oct, but i'm gonna make the trip down to London to see Underworld. I've seen them play twice, but only at festivals. I just want to see them in their own setting for the fans.

Luckily my friend is down there and is wanting to go down to as well as her flatmate. Tickets all booked, so bring on the 17th October - two days before my birthday. Can't get any better:)

Here's hoping You Do Scribble and Silver Boots makes it...I reaaaally want to hear studio versions of them...then All These Things, Darc, and that's like half the album isn't it? All those tracks are great, but I'm wondering if this album is going to be mostly all new stuff or a lot of tracks we've heard already. I don't really care...some of that new stuff is too good to NOT release. This is the first time I'm actually hoping a new album goes to 70+ minutes ;)

It's nice to have a date though...I've been looking forward to one since '04, and no matter how many new bands I get into and how many new releases come this way, this is gonna be my #1!!!

Like all of their recent releases, it'll be released on the underworldlive.com label (except for Japan on the Traffic label, I think). Published by the Chrysalis Music Group in the US, and Sherlock Holmes Music everywhere else.

my guess the album will be like this:

Darc
All These Things
Small Conker And A Twix
You Do Scribble

...followed by a massive 40 minute long version of "Five Points"

(just listened to it again for the first time in like... maybe a year, and I still love it)

im going on a limb and saying we'll have only heard ONE of the tracks on the new album (before the tour, of course.)

That meaning, of alllll those songs we've heard live over the past 5 years only one will make the album. What fun would it be to have waited 5 years to hear what we've already heard?

patrick
06-20-2007, 06:19 PM
i could see /hope for two: always loved a film and you do scribble

those are both amazing and need proper studio release

or at least the should release 256kbs versions of the tracks not on albumn on uwlive.com like the river run songs... so many i want to hear with vitality compared to via the live recordings

rudydaduck
06-20-2007, 06:30 PM
what about "allthesethings" on the album AND as a first single/extended ep (thinking born slippy nuxx, etc) along with some of these other tracks we've been hearing but in remixed or other versions from what we've already heard (yardbeat especially) . . . . what selectas might call a DEEfrent stye and Fa-SHONE!

I would be suprised if any of those tracks will be on the album - considering some of them are nearly 3 years old...

Remember when AHDO came out, everyone was like "i want that unknow track from Electraglide" and "i think 5 points will be on the album" - every track that was on it was an unheard track before then...

If people have heard it already, why would they want to put it on the album? Just trying to manage expectations here ;)

Mike

maybe some of the much loved live tracks like All These Things and Darc will end up as b-sides on singles, much like Tiny Clicks and Ansum did from the AHDO era.

just a thought, despite my love for All These Things, especially from that debut at the Zurich show in 05.

Another song that has been coming to mind is the opening track from the show on 11.11.05 in Luxembourg(the one janie recorded), the Vocoder-Guitar Track that was never aptly titled and lasted about five minutes before bleeding into Mmm...skyscrapper.

I agree, the soundquality is horrible (I was there last year). The chillout room (or rather: hall) with ambient music was not chill at all and the food was crap. I still had fun though, and this year Underworld's performing so duh, i'm going

yeah as much as I would like to hear finished studio versions of a lot of the new tracks we've been hearing over the past few years, I think it might be kinda dissapointing if a big part of the album was stuff we'd hear already in some form or another.
I hope some will make it to b-sides or EP's though. Tracks like Darc, All These Things, You Do Scribble and Always Loved A Film are simply too good to remain only as bootlegs.
If there was one of those tracks that I think should be on the album I think it should be either Darc or All These Things though.

big screen satellite
06-21-2007, 02:30 AM
personally, i hope this new album is just a compilation of all of the brilliant Born Slippy Nuxx remixes that there have been in the past and some newly worked versions of that classic underrated song

for me that would be bliss...

then i hope that the tour would comprise of Uw doing every version of Born Slippy live for 2 hours...

you can surely never get enough of this song...

Well I wasn't tripping so I had to eat something at one point heheh.
And you're right, the vibe is pretty good there, even though it's so big. And there's always a good line up.

Also, last year I got to ILT by a "partybus" ride. I believe it was like 70 euro's for the ride and the ticket was included. It kicked ass because we met all kinds of people in the bus and got drunk.

Although then I had to take a piss but the bus never stopped before we got to the Flanders Expo.

I'm going to show up at Red Rocks Denver like fifteen hours early and be the first in front of the stage. Literally, no one knows how much it means to me to UW live for the first time. I've been bellyaching for years about not seeing them, and saying that if I have to fly to England to do so, I would do it. Now they're coming just one state away from me, and I'm so psyched.

I think that the new album will be fantastic. The cover looks very "dubnobass" to me, and with the way the UW sound has been progressing, I think this is going to be a lovely release. I can't wait, all I can say is thank you to the boys and I eagerly await October.

I found this on a forum. I think it's a joke or so, because most of these tracks are unknown to me... But again: Underworld could suprise us with completly new tracks instead of the ones we've heared on their live shows. We just don't know what the guys are doing in their studio ;-)

On the other site: i would be stupid not te have tested tracks earlier in their live shows... Let me know what you think???

Was this the source?

http://www.iloud.jp/special/oblivion_with_bells.php

It appears to be pulled for now.

Anyway, to comment on the track titles themselves, "Beautiful Burnout" is "Biro the Leggy", of course. "Holding the Moth" is a line from "Globe", so perhaps it's a rework of "Globe"? "To Heal" would perhaps be "To Heal and Restore" from last year's radio webcast and Sunshine?

Seriously, it's a line from Biro the Leggy, which they have played on and off for a while, most recently at Cocoon last October.

Taken from here http://www.aloha.com/~tabanger/obliviontracksen.html

After 5 years of underworld 5th album 'OBLIVION with Bells', made the entire picture open. All the 11 tunes (bonus track/truck 1 tune additional schedule) with as for being developed, it is enhanced in the Japanese board, the cartridge sound of the underworld. Here with each tune review, you probably will mention the contents!

1, These Things
As for this tune which is started with arpeggio of [dejitarushinse], the dance track/truck whose [ibisa] pitch [toraibaru] house beat is impressive. The vocal of the cirque where the deep kind of reverberation which drifts caught the tolane sea. It may participate with the floor of morning.

2.Beautiful Burnout
1 as for this tune which is connected with non stop, being dark, the melancholic [hadoerekutoro] track/truck. Voice of the cirque the [bu] anther way, also the Latin percussion which is emphasized with thought has been effective.

3.Holding The Moth
Chicago house voice of the cirque rides minimal beat, simple gradually the pad and the piano join there, the club track/truck of charm.

4.To Heal
The thin phonic the interlude tune which is due to the arrangement of [shinse] [sutoringusu].

5.Ring Road
The middle eastern [tsu] [po] it is and the unique work to which the cirque announces the lap of the [sutoritsu] pitch with [hitsupuhotsupu] beat.

6.Glam Bucket
The [shinse] arpeggio like the music box makes “Rez associate”, [toritsupi] the electric track/truck. As for 16 minute based groove impressions [eiteizu].

7.Boy, Boy and Boy
It is on the extended line “of JAL To Tokyo”, in electro- beat, blue Gee song of the cirque echoes, the lock of the new section. There is also an atmosphere like “Boen Slippy” to break, the floor may to do to prosper.
8.Cuddle Bunny vs Celtic Villages

The interlude tune which makes about the texture of [shinse] inquire.

9.Faxed Invitation
[buripi] like the Morse signal [rihu] is impressive, the techno track/truck. It has the tone which is similar to the work which has been announced with download.

10.Good Morning Cockerel
The four key song rides in the piano, the tune which you taste and is deep.

11.Best Mamgu Ever
The [dauntenpo] track/truck which is started with the timbre of [erepi] which becomes cloudy. The vocal which has [akogi] and the floating impression makes the coffee [deru] maar associate.
As for feeling through the whole hearing, this work deep and is beautiful, it meant that world view of the underworld is reflected. Physical not only the surface, [supirichiyuaru] it begins to appeal to also the territory, you think that it is the work whose degree of completion is high.

i'm excited! i am just really glad it isn't polished up versions of songs from the RR project (which we do know hte names for)

and then maybe they'll do a number of singles with b-sides that hold our goodies like 'always loved a film' and 'darc' and 'all these things'... remember the songs that were released as b-sides in the past (notably dark train, one of their best)

Super psyched if "To Heal" is a proper treatment of "To Heal and Restore Broken Bodies"...that track from the dirtybroadcast 5/06 always gives me goosebumps! Same with Biro the leggy (="beautiful burnout" ?)

I hope that some of the other more, er, cryptic tracknames turn out to be stuff like "All these things" or incorporate some of the live jams a la "Globe", "5 ft 5", "You do Scribble"...

edit: duh! "Holding the Moth" is a line from "Globe"!

Holding the Moth = Globe?
Beautiful Burnout = Biro?

Guess I'm making connections where none are. Well maybe not. I seem to recall (if my imagination hasn't run amok) that some bits of AHDO tracks were played in improvs prior to the release of AHDO. Mo Move rings a bell in that regard. So parts what we know as Biro or whatever could end up on the album yet.

And yes, super excited++

To translate that page a bit better than google:
4.To Heal
シンフォニックなシンセ・ストリングスのアレンジによるインタールード的な曲。

An interlude track consisting of a symphonic synthesized strings arrangement.

Certainly sounds like a description of "to heal and restore".. excellent. I love that track.

Enjoy.

-----------
2.Beautiful Burnout
A non-stop continuation of track 1, this track is a dark melancholic hard-electro track. Karl's voice is almost muttering and the strongly emphasised Latin percussion is also effective.

3.Holding The Moth
Starting of as a Chicago House style minimal beat with Karl's voice over the top, gradually joined by a pad (? whatever that is) and pianos. A sort of simple yet charming club track.

4.To Heal
An interlude track consisting of a symphonic synthesized strings arrangement.

5.Ring Road
Middle-eastern hip-hop beat with Karl doing a "The Streets" style rap makes this quite a novelty.

6.Glam Bucket
Music-box style synth arpeggio reminiscent of "Rez". A trippy electronic track. The 16 minute based groove (? not sure what this means) is quite 80s.

7.Boy,Boy,Boy
On a continuation of a "JAL To Tokyo" electro beat, Karl's bluesy song echos, with a fresh section of rock (ok, I admit I have no idea how to translate this either). The breaks have a flavour of Born Slippy style, likely to be a big hit on the dance-floor.

8.Cuddle Bunny vs Celtic Villages
An interludey track which lets you hear the texture of the synthesizer.

9.Faxed Invitation
An impressive techno track with a morse-code-like bleepy riff. Has a similar tone to the tracks released via download.

10.Good Morning Cockerel
A deep and significant (flavoursome?) four-key piano track,

11.Best Mamgu Ever
A down-tempo track which starts with a muffled electro beat tone. The greedy (nope, i'm lost here) and wandering vocals are reminiscent of Cafe Del Mar.

note to artists who do not want their LP leaked: do not send review copies to journalists. if you must, set up listening parties or create a login/password protected mini site for journalists to stream the songs. sending out promos is asking for your music to be leaked. please do not cry when your desire for press leads to your LP being distributed online before it's released. there are other ways of getting publicity for your music.

uw seem like they're well aware of the pros/cons of the internet so hopefully they'll be smart with review copies and not send any out.

this is either going to be trim pt. 2 or fucking amazing.

If I recall correctly, AHDO was leaked around the last week of June as I was finishing up a final paper and checking some newsgroups when I spotted it. The final I was writing was a bit late, but I had been given an extension.

Despite downloading the leak, I still purchased the album proper in September 02 and also purchased one of the promos that came in the DVD case.

LOL... god, I remember the frenzy surrounding the leak. The vibe here was very "If you download this record then you support the turrrrists" kinda thing. In the end, I wonder if any regular here actually did not buy the album?

Basically, what I'm saying is that if OWB leaks, you bet your ass I'm dl'ing it. And then buying at least one copy on release day if not more. It's just how these things work. And I encourage people to not get more emotionally involved than is necessary if it does leak. I'd consider it a reasonable notion to believe that people that would pirate the leak and not buy the album also would pirate it post-release and not buy the album.

Thanks for the leaked tracklisting guys, now I wanna hear snippets you bastards! ;)

It definently had that vibe of, 'You're either with us, or AGAINST US.' I remember talking to some radiohead fans who had a similar stance around the time that rough mix of Hail to the Thief got leaked a couple months early.

The thing I remember about the leak of AHDO is Scott posting the track list for the CD and cueing up the conjecture about what the tracks could be like, even including some rather humorous discussion of tracking Mr. Warner down at his place of work and nabbing his copy of the promo.

Then it got leaked.

I think people did get a bit too emotional over the whole ordeal. So perhaps a SPOILER thread for OWB will be necessary to appease some of those around here.

I will be downloading it. I know I'm not patient enough to wait. It's like seeing movies early or going to a test screening. It might not be the final product, but it's pretty damn close and it's just as interesting to see a work in progress for as it is to see the final piece. (Just my opinion though.)

it'll be really cool if they won't send any promo copies to press or anyone. i had a strong feeling that radiohead wont do that too. interpol were really succesful at it, album leaked just 2 weeks ago before actual release.

actually i want to see oblivion in top 3.

Ugh, I'm terrible at this. I always aim to wait, but then I just get too damn curious. I'm also notorius for buying like 5 copies of their new album for me and my friends; its not like anyone on this msg board is going download and not purchase.

I remember when AHDO was leaked. That feeling of "you're a bad person if you download" was quite humorous as I know a LOT of people that had advance listens and some of them were on the side of "i'm not going to download."

Interpol didn't release any promos?

I remember the last nine incha nails album With Teeth was also quite successful in keeping the album under wraps until about a week and a half prior to it's release in the spring of 05.

If history has taught me anything, I'll be too impatient and download it, then buy the single, then buy the album, then weaken as soon as a version with any sort of extras is released and buy that too, then next time I'm in overseas I'll cruise record stores specifically to pick up any different versions released there.

I don't think there's anything the band could do to make me *not* buy this album at least once.

I guess they could not release it? (note: not a recommendation)

i think 'always loved a film' is still WIP. it's okay, but it doesn't have a whole lot going on, vs. something like you do scribble or all these things, both of which seem a lot more complete. that's just my take, though.

I was wondering if Always loved a film has changed names again. It started as Always loved a film, then became to quote Rick, 'something to do with Silver boots and always loved a film.' I really love that track though, especially as it has grown into what it was last we heard in May 05.

I actually preferred the ORIGINAL version of "Always Loved a Film"

as it was played back at that Electraglide show (forget the year off the top of my head)... it was play muuuuuuuch slower. Definitely like a track to play while having a special night with a "lady friend" (or guy)

there was - at one point in time, a short video of that performance on UW live... any chance someone's got it? I remember seeing Karl reading lyrics/stuff out of a book...

I seem to recall that a studio version of Always Loved A Film (or Silver Boots then I believe) was up for about two days as a video soundtrack somewhere hidden on underworldlive.com a while ago. I want to say maybe before the riverruns started to come out. I think it was sort of hidden and that there was no direct link from the main page. I definitely remember that some bit of music was up as a video soundtrack that I listened to once but it had dissappeared when I came back. Anybody have that or know what I'm talking about?

I recall that video in question that was posted on underworldlive.com. It was about a minute and half or so from the Electraglide show in 2003 and it showed Karl for the majority of the video flipping through the tomato/underworld project In The Belly of Saint Paul.

Haha funny...I am the same. Man the last full album was from 2002 so it is five years ago now..I need my crack dose and the sooner I get it the better. But I also love to hold the real CD and sleeve in my hand, check the artwork and weird design out. When it is about Underworld releases, I collect every piece I can get my hands on besides single releases mabye but everything that smells like an album, EP, official mp3 release or live bootleg has to be mine. :D I live in Germany but each time I am in a foreign country, I check the record stores out if I have the chance to..some gems you never get ahold here like for example the "Driving through B-Sides Vol. 1. and 2" CD's I bought in a UK store some years ago which shows so much where their sound is coming from especially for die hard fans. The day I have the new album in my hands will be a day where I feel like 12 again being the kid that awaits his christmas present under the tree...exited but also hesitating to listen to it because there is nothing like listening for the first time to a new CD from your fav artists - though their albums grow a lot over the Years. I am holding my breath for October and till then I will make my usual daily prayer in the evening begging for another live recorded DVD like Everything Everything in superb audio quality where Underworld play in front of 2 zillion people going bonkers.

You know, I downloaded what I thought was that video of "Always Loved a Film" with Karl thumbing through the pages. Turns out, I had only downloaded the link to the mini-movie. And not that I've tried in a long time, but that link was still working years after the hyperlink was removed from the uwlive site.

I loved that version of ALAF. So groovy and less techy. "only I know... what you're thinkinggggg. only I know... what you're thinkingggg."

I'll check the link when I get home. Who knows, maybe its still up there?

Some info from the latest DJMAG:

Underworld return with "crocodile" in early October, which fans may already know from their recent live sets. Remixes come courtesy of AMÉ, QUENTIN HARRIS, OLIVER HUNTEMANN and PETE HELLER.

Another highlight from the new set will be "Ring Road" that's already undergone the SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO remix treatment in preperation for a future single release.

It's a very good record. There is a track on the album that I do not personally feel too much for but that's been true of every Underworld album since 'Beaucoup Fish' and I'm not going to name it so I do not color first impressions. I do feel that this record gels together better than anything they've done since 'Second Toughest in the Infants' (excluding maybe the 'Pizza For Eggs' EP) so it's something I put on and listen to in its entirety on a regular basis rather than selecting tracks from it.

If I had to pick a favorite track at the moment I'd say "Holding the Moth".

BB, I''ve always heard him saying, "I'm holding the moth" but hey, it IS Underworld and everyone hears something different. But then again, there was an Underworld Live post a few months back that had the phrase, "I'm holding the moth" on it.
