View Full Version : Dirts and their (T-)shirts

I've been meaning for years to do myself a t-shirt to wear to UW gigs saying "Dirty Lipstick Boy", and now we've got tickets to the Manchester Apollo gig, my ex-other half is planning on doing "Dirty Epic Angel Babe".
So I thought this might be a good way to celebrate our love of the band and get our creative juices flowing, to pick a name beginning with "Dirty", and print / stencil / draw / embroider / otherwise embelish a shirt or t-shirt to wear to the appropriate gigs. I think this make a great 'Oh, you're a dirt too' calling card, as well as an interesting and international collaborative art project: The DirtShirts Collective.
Comments? Futher ideas?
Peace,
Dr. Matt...

Cool idea. I know http://www.spreadshirt.net (click Create) lets you ping them off a design/text and they turn it into a super-duper bespoke T for you; I've bought from them plenty of times - very quick turnaround and the quality is top bollock.
Only thing is, surely everyone'd just have DirtyNumbAngel (I know I would!) :)

The idea was that the bits after 'Dirty' would be from UW lyrics, but who am I to limit your creativity?

we should just have a generic shirt with "...... is DIRTY" on it and then everyone can fill in their own name or forum nick with a felt marker :p

As I now have some cool photos of the lasers @ Wild in the Country, I am planning on getting a High St outlet to print me a t-shirt with said photo plus text along the lines of "crazysugarboy - dirty for ever!" (or similar). I will be wearing it at the roundhouse gigs:)

I am thinking of quite a simple one for the Roundhouse (and HMH/ILT). Lyrics on the front, keep it dirty on the back.
This time I am gonna make sure and get SMALLER shirts though - the ones I made in '05 were way too big.

That sounds like a cool idea - the lyrics that I wd have to print, cos they send shivers down my spine every time I hear them, are "These are the rails, and these are the weeds, that live in the cracks, at the back of the world"
Where is the back of the world? Is it that magical place that you very occasionally discover without meaning to - turning left rather than right - and you suddenly find yourself in an almost enchanted place, utterly silent with a hint of frosty mist, and just the tiniest hint of caged malevolence. I have been in those places on a couple of occasions and that track totally sums up the emotions that I experienced.

we should all join http://threadless.com/ and submitt some underworld/dirty designs (and then all of us vote for them)... althoughi guess the only problem there is that people that don't know what dirty is can buy them (although it might introduce it around too)

Being a natural-fibered lazy git, I cheated and just bagged a Bruce Lee promo T off eBay instead. If I was any good with Photoshop etc I'd have cobbled together a snazzy custom UW jobby, but hey ho. Dirty Resonator would've been the nadgers.
If only there was some way of magically getting my Second Toughest T off its last legs. New Vanish MaxiAction, maybe? ;)

i believe its both. i remember hearing it differently when karl sang it and when juanita(?) spoke it.

'lipstick-fodder' is a phrase i hear (though it probably isn't) in 'push upstairs'; i'll be having it frontside, with my sig scrolling across the back...
(and maybe 'i'm dirty' on the sleeve!)

Definitely "back of the world". It's on "Hard Vibe" from the Benicassim show, for example.
When did Karl sing it?

Nice projects and products from the online sites!
i went through a phase a few years ago of making lots of shirts myself, using iron-ons. Quality tees available at craft store for $3, and then just the ink and iron on transfers (~$10 a pack), so each shirt probably only cost$5 to make. They've held up okay, although you can't really throw them in the dryer (lest they crackle and peel).
I made a couple other Underworld shirts ( a blue one with the beaucoup sphere and the text "The silence is pushing it around. A little sound in a little amp" was one of my faves). here's the one i wore to the NYC show, straightforward text that i cut out and ironed on:

Sorry mate, but that T-shirt reminds of something worn by a middle America granny with hew nephews on the front.
"RIP Penny Paterson aka Peanut" with a picture of some local ghetto hero in his meanest pose i've actually seen once. Next time add some punch to it, a different type maybe? Just an honest critique.
Here is mine (http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1257/1474407420_3bd56f227a_o.jpg)

i have one more design which is not for show right now. but you will see it when the right time comes.

This site is fantastic! I stayed up until 2:00am messing with designs last night and am playing with a shirt for darktrain.jp (as well as a few others)!:)
Can anyone recommend which T-shirt type is most similar to a good quality concert type shirt (Men`s Slim Fit or Summer Shirt)?
