God I hope they're all alright. What an awful, terrible thing for people to do. People can fuck up just about anything, can't they? I sure hope they're okay, this is absolutely terrible and I hope the people who crashed the gates and burned the cars are put in jail for a LONG time.

UW, my prayers are with you all.

Wholly agree with the thoughts and concerns expressed thus far. I do hope that those who chose to spoil what should've been a day of happiness for all are found and prosecuted if they haven't been already.

I hope the UW crew are okay.

It's nice to see that the uwlive site has changed from a black screen to a calm, peaceful green tree on a foggy morning

I hope all is well in the underworld family.

Karl, Rick and Darren

We met in the hotel reception at Tilburg in 2005. You proved once again what generous people you are by staying to talk for as long as you could, even though you'd already spoken to other dirty peeps and had places to go and people to see. Saturday's events are thoroughly undeserved and I wish you a speedy recovery from what must have been a bewildering turn of events.

Good vibrations to you bloody lovely geezers and stay dirty.

I hope the feeling of calm from that tree is justified. :|

My heart goes out to the Underworld clan.

Heineken Ejekt Festival 2007
16th June 2007

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

UNDERWORLD MEMBER INJURED AS GANG STORMS STADIUM.

Underworlds’ Rick Smith, Karl Hyde, Darren Price and crew were caught up in trouble reportedly caused by “anarchists” at the Eject Festival in Athens on Saturday night (16/06/07). Underworld were scheduled to close the festival that also included Madness and The Beastie Boys. It is reported that a group of around 30 masked individuals, armed with CS-gas, iron bars and baseball bats stormed the stadium at around 11.20pm as The Beastie Boys were performing. As cars were burned and property damaged, the stadium was evacuated. Underworlds’ Rick Smith was one of the injured. He was hospitalised for a time in Athens, but has now returned to the UK for further treatment. Several other people including security guards were seriously hurt.

ENDS.

Well I guess we can do nothing but wish Mr Smith a speedy recovery. Great to hear that he's well enough to have left the hospital and head back home to the UK though.

It's amazing how close I've felt to the boys for the last 24 hours since I heard the rumours, and I realise what a big part of my life they've become.

Thank you Chimp, for the update.
It is beyond words that Underworld and their crew have had to suffer from such outrageous violence, while they try to bring so much joy and happiness and good vibes to the world.
As Karl said on UWlive yesterday, they came to dance.

Lots of love to Rick, and every one, be well soon!!!

I hope you can leave this trauma behind one day, because if we would let the violence dictate our lives, then there would be only blackness.

You bring light in!

Thanks for the update.

All best wishes from the BB family for Rick's recovery. I am sure he is being well cared-for, and it must be a relief to be back home after Saturday's traumas.

I am so sorry that something that should have been a joyous celebration was turned into something so violent, and loathsome. Music trancends races, creeds, cultures, classes and social strata. It disgusts me that the perpetrators of this offence are too stupid to realise that they were totally misguided in targetting this festival.

I know some Dirts believe this should have been publicised more widely in the mainstream news, but I for one am quite glad that it isn't. Anarchist groups like this feed on publicity to somehow "validate" their cause. They don't deserve the publicity, and they don't deserve the attention.

Peace,

Jx

I just saw the press release and wanted to pass on my best wishes. I was really shocked.

It's just plain wrong, and I could rant away about that, but there's no point in dwelling on it - I sincerely hope all involved are recovering well, that the trip back to the UK means that nothing critical has happened to Rick or any of the others and that friends and family back in the UK are coping OK with the distress and worry this must have caused them. I'm sure many dirts can relate to that situation so I think there's a lot of genuine empathy in these messages.

(Though if they need a good barrister then I know someone who'd take to it with gusto.)

Genuinely though, I really wish all the best to Rick and everyone mixed up in this.

i'm sure as hell they won't be going back to greece any time soon, that's for sure!

seriously, my take on it is that if he was able to go back to the UK it can't be too serious, but i'm still kind of on edge until we hear any more news.
