View Full Version : "Official" lyrics wrong?
So, Yahoo/Gracenote created a database of legal song lyrics (http://music.guardian.co.uk/news/story/0,,2064805,00.html).
There are even some songs from UW there, namely Moaner, King of Snake and Underneath the Radar.
They claim that "The age-old confusion over song lyrics, a source of fascination to some and frustration to others, is about to be cleared up, thanks to the internet."
Funnily enough both the lyrics of Moaner and King of Snake are wrong! Of course I can't be 100% sure because I don't know the really official lyrics but to me it seems Sherlock Holmes Music just copy&pasted those lyrics from the next best illegal lyrics page and put "(C) Richard Smith/Karl Hyde publisher designee" below so that it appears "official".
Guess i expected too much from a site which classifies Beaucoup Fish as "Funky House". :D
edit: oops, forgot link: http://music.yahoo.com/Underworld/lyrics/267108

there were never any "official" lyrics released (until the riverrun series, that is) with the only exception being "born slippy".
everything else most probably originated on these very boards here... but definitely aren't "official".
Yeah, that's exactly what i mean. But they claim that those lyrics are official and correct.

I'm rather sure that Sherlock Holmes Music is the publication vehicle underworld publishes their music/lyrics under.
As you can read here http://www.sherlockholmesmusic.co.uk/

There are lyrics for Spoonman and Cowgirl on the videos for those songs. I would consider those to be official.
And the Cowgirl lyrics are in the Mmm...skyscraper book.
Where's the lyrics for Rez?

I've heard that the official lyrics to Born Slippy got published, but I've never actually found the friggers. Anyone care to share a link? :)
My bid for brownie points: Underworld lyrics was the first ever thing I printed off the internet.

I've got the ones in the DubNo sleeve; I just thought the "official" ones had been properly transcribed from the song and given the OK by Karl. Ah well.
I'd like to see that Gracenote wossname have a stab at untangling Spikee :)
Where's the lyrics for Rez?
Hehe LOL! :)

Sounds like a good call for favourite cloth-eared wrong-end-of-the-stick...
Pearl's Girl: Dave is floating = dame explosive
Juanita: Your thin paper wings = your fear of paperweights
Winjer: Stay miserable = Under the stale ends
I blame the furry playback of 90s Walkmans.
There are some new ones:
Air Towel
Barrel Of A Gun (Underworld Soft Mix)
Born Slippy Nuxx
Dirty Epic
Dirty Epic (Album Version)
King Of Snake (Dave Clarke Remix)
Little Speaker
Mo Move
Moaner
Moaner
Oich Oich
River Of Bass
Sola Sistim
Spoonman
Stagger
Trim
Underneath The Radar
I still think that most of them, if not all, are fake. Look at the Air Towel lyrics: two times "[unverified]".

My son always used to think (when he was much smaller) that Crazy Crazy Crazy Crazy was "Wedgie Wedgie Wedgie Wedgie "
Maybe he was right?!

my very good friend used to get twisted with me, and eventually Pearls girl would hit the playlist. he used to always say " chrissy chrissy chrissy chrissy "...guess you had to be there.
but it always brought such a grin to my face cuz i know he totally understood just how much UW meant to me.
thats why im paying for his and his girlfriends tickets to the next Toronto UW show.

check out the "official" lyrics for Moby's 'Honey'.
Get my honey come back, sometimes,
I wanna rap like that, sometimes,
I get a hump in my back, sometimes,
I'm going over here, sometimes.
...Wow. Yahoo! has finally come through and told us the REAL lyrics of that song. Thank goodness. You know when those lyrics were recorded, right? They were recorded in the 1920s and 1930s by a man named Alan Lomax. He travelled all over the South and interviewed the last of the former slaves, and recorded the slave songs they remembered. I'm absolutely certain that slaves in 1855 were just dying to be set free so they could rap just like M.C. Hammer. In fact, let's listen to the original recording, with no music:

It's not exactly clear what she's saying, it's either "I want him right back, jack" or "I'm gonna rap that jack (ie: in the head)", but "I wanna rap like that"? I haven't even heard or seen that interpretation ANYWHERE. You'd have to be a retard to even think that a possibility if you know anything about the damned song. It pisses me off that Yahoo! can just make up their own lyrics and stick "official" on them, and think they're the shit. What a bunch of assholes. And their music video website sucks, too.
