great upload/find. I didn't know they were on that show.

I read about that on the Belle and Sebastian site (http://www.belleandsebastian.com/diary.php?did=114):

The only other band being recorded on the Friday was Underworld, so the audience was somewhat different from the audience we're used to. Most of the women looked as though they were auditioning for a part in a dramatisation of Sid the Sexist, and one guy was even wearing see-through PVC trousers and Ali G shades. We had to tell them that this was the chill-out part of the evening. That seemed to go down okay.

It hadn't been posted on Youtube when I searched for it.

if memory serves me...

Tomato did the Hula Version
Danny Boyle only did the version with the re-edited "Trainspotting" clips

I vaguely recall... either one of these two things are true:

1) There was a third version that was released... I think it was pretty similar to the KOS video where it's just *forget his name* wearing black tights & t-shirt and thick glasses, but doing a new interpretative dance to NUXX '03... then there was a fourth video, but it never was released

2) I'm totally hallucinating this whole 'third' version of Nuxx '03, and there are only two different videos, then a mystery unreleased third version

and the bar that's in the Tomato (hula) version of the video is the same place where the spoken intro to "Two Months Off" was written (and maybe some other stuff, but I could be wrong)

King of Snake

Haven`t checked if anyone else put this up yet, but here is the only other video I know of from the Rainbow 2000 show in Shizuoka, Japan (the other one being the "Pearls Girl" video I put up on darktrain.jp)

I love the ending to this one!!!

For those who haven`t seen them yet, "Moaner" and "Two Months Off" from Fujirock 08 are up on Darktrain.jp as well. More to come...

Hi all.....1st post and all. Been a big fan of UW since long before I knew who they were. Seen them live a few times and each time was very unique and magic... Very very happy memories :)

I heard 'parc' for the first time today, as Im busy updating my Underworld collection. I first heard it as I opened a link from a facebook pal to a funny youtube music video.. Listening to the track and watching this vid blew a fuse in my head (almost the last one). I had to-had to-had to put the 'parc' track over the funny vid. All my mates loved it, so I posted it on youtube today... I thought someone here might appreciate it too :D

And this is done off a games console! Amazing.

It is pretty cool!

It`s a music creation software tool for the Nintendo DS.
It has a six-track (analog synth x 2, drum machine x 4) /16-step sequencer,
effects, and a wireless communications link so you can sync it with other DS units.

It goes for around $50.

I don`t know if it`s quite ready for live "stage" applications, but it certainly is a great creative tool for laying down ideas!

You can read the more about it here:
http://www.aqi.co.jp/product/ds10/jp/

froopy seal

unbelievable :eek:Indeed. Is it a fake? I mean, did he - or someone else - maybe "just" do a remix (which would be cool in itself) and put it over the video?

Some clues from my n00b point of view:
- He uses speech. So he must have used samples, right? Is that possible on Korg-DS?
- It seems there are some "flaws" in the video: At the end, when Rez starts up, the controller on the left slips back up, but still the music fades out.
- Doesn't he sometimes push a button "too late", i. e., after a new track/effect starts?

Sorry, can't describe it any better, due to almost non-existent knowledge of music-making.

Can I, as ever, rely on you techy-geeks to solve this riddle?

phaseblue

He uses speech. So he must have used samples, right? Is that possible on Korg-DS??

The Korg-DS does not have any sampling capabilities to my knowledge.
What I think he`s doing, is taking the audio from the DS`s 1/8 in. headphone jacks into his sound card and
mixing the audio with the Born Slippy lyrics in an audio software program on his computer.
The audio we hear on the video is probably the monitoring output from speakers attached to the computer.
This might explain the audio latency we hear when he selects buttons as well!

It is also possible that he recorded the audio and video simultaneously on separate mediums, mixed in the BS lyrics, and then re-synced the video later!

froopy seal

TheBang

I'm almost positive the lyrics have been mixed in post. Pretty much everything else, though, you can see him triggering the loops.

- Doesn't he sometimes push a button "too late", i. e., after a new track/effect starts?

He's actually pushing the buttons ahead of time. He's queuing the loop for playback on the next measure. You can see each loop he triggers begins playing when the button stops bouncing up and down on the measure break.

Yeah, that would also explain why we don't hear any noises before the music starts.

I think he recorded the line out from the DS (you can see the cord in the bottom right corner in the beginning of the video), mixed the vocals in post, and then added the audio to the video. But it looks like everything but the vocals were done on the DS.

Nice observation! I didn`t watch the video so closely! It`s interesting because this sort of thing is exactly what I`m working on for the next version of the "darktrain" mixer!

I do agree that the lyrics were mixed in post and the audio and video re-synced!

hey innerspaceboy,

thankyou so much for the effort!!!

downloaded and just watched it. and actually, it is not bad at all... but then agian, this is an absolutely classic song.

come to think of it — now underworld has somehow partially re-introduced the mk1 way of things (reappearance of pop structured 'songs', an 80s-like arrangement in some tracks)... wouldn't it be great if they 'covered' their own doot-doot in a live concert? maybe converted to a new version, comprising their present views on the track? (like they also do a lot with the older mk2 tracks). i guess a large part of the audience would go mad if they would unexpecteldly set in doot-doot...i would, for sure...

Certainly a unique take on covering Born Slippy

Wow. That's horrible. Reminds me of this column by Charlie Brooker

"It's sobering to think that at some point during our lifetimes we'll be subjected to a twinkly girl-and-piano cover version of Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine's Sheriff Fatman. But we will. Eventually, we will." (http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/nov/25/2012-christmas-adverts-snowmen-slave-labour)

I'm pretty sure there's a proshot of karl doing doot doot on the edgelands tour somewhere around...

my understanding was that the last live mk1 performance was in 89 with the eurythmics farewell tour after which Karl stayed around the states doing session work (there's a video of Karl on stage at a debby harry concert) and Rick went back to the UK eventually to be introduced to Darren and yadda yadda, you know that story, but that last video has a date of 91 and the gigography shows a few shows as mk1 that year as well.

We know of the Experimental Sound Field in 92 and the gigography has shows listed for 92 and 93 as well, not to mention that the live jam and crowd feedback was so important to the creative process in that era all pretty much means that they were definitely playing mk2 stuff before dubno released.

Yeah, if you want to be pedantic, ME started life as a MK1 song, but was released as a MK2 song. It was performed live first as a MK1 song, but never performed as a MK2 song until last year.

I know this was on A Life Less Ordinary soundtrack in 1997, but it doesn't really sound like a Second Toughest In The Infants type track. Has more of a Dubnobasswithmyheadman sound to me. Anyone know anything more about this track? Such as when it was recorded? I know a reworked version appeared on the Athens mix CD with Misterons. I wish Underworld included Oh and 8 Ball on their respective boxsets. Bugs me they left tracks off the boxsets, such as Dark & Long (215 Miles), Spoon Deep, Big Meat Show, Minneapolis, Bigmouth, Pearls Girl (Carp Dreams... Koi), Born Slippy.NUXX (Telematic), etc.

It must have been a difficult decision knowing what to include - the Dubnobass box would have required at least one extra disc to include all the remaining b-sides - although I agree that Carp Dreams and Telematic are notable losses. The appearance of Dark & Long (Hall's Edit) is the most baffling to me, pretty pointless, especially given that more interesting radio edits - King of Snake (Barking Mix) and Bruce Lee (Short) - don't appear.

That said, they clearly made an attempt not to cross over with 1992-2012, which includes 8 Ball, Big Meat Show, Minneapolis, Why Why Why and Groove Without a Doubt. Which makes Thing in a Book an odd choice, given its edited form as Second Hand - 215 Miles would have definitely worked better in its place.

But they also made A Collection volumes 1 and 2 in 2011 and 2016, which share many tracks from their hits collections (even 8 Ball is on it). I don't get why 8 Ball could be on Vol. 2 in 2016, but not the Beaucoup Fish boxset. Japan got a bonus disc for Dubnobasswithmyheadman, so they easily could've done another disc. They just picked 3 random tracks from the Live In Tokyo 25.10.2005, which was a weird choice. Personally, the missing tracks make the sets feel incomplete.

Personally, I like collecting each album eras' tracks and put them all together on a massive playlist, but now only some have updated masters where others don't. Why Why Why is also a different edit on 1992-2012. Be nice if the full one was on Dubnobasswithmyheadman boxset. We got 2 different versions of The Hump with Wild Beasts version featured on the Dubnobasswithmyheadman boxset and just The Hump on the 1992-2012. In find it out they left Bigmouth off it. First UW song I ever heard (well, Lemon Interupt), kinda seems important.

this is when i realize there's probably twice as much content locked away than we've even heard.

I know we'll never get it - the box sets would have been the time - but what I'd give for a FSOL-style 'From the Archives' series, or an Aphex-esque Soundcloud dump of old tracks.

i dont even mean 'finished' pieces. i mean there must be SO much unfinished riffs that we collectively would go nuts hearing.

One of my favorite producers Lorn put out these collections for download called Self Confidence. He did 3x volumes, which featured loads of unreleased tracks, unfinished ideas, riffs. I wish more artists would do this. I would love to hear what Liam Howlett has hidden. He shared 2x unfinished ideas on Zane Lowe that were pretty cool. Hell, takes all these little bits and mix them into a continuous mix. Kinda like what Modeselektor did with their latest release Extended.
