As part of KCRW's World Festival?
Sorry I didn't see a thread about this show, just wanted to make sure it's accurate.
Whos' supposed to play this show? I've only seen Paul Oakenfold and Carmen Rizzo on the list so far.

This is totally unconfirmed BUT this is from Carmen Rizzo's blog (http://www.carmenrizzo.com/latest_news.html):
"March 2007 - I just found September 9th I will be opening up for Paul Oakenfold and Underworld at a KCRW World/Electronica night at The Hollywood Bowl!! I will also be a part of Paul's band after. This will be a great night!!"
Hollywoodbowl.com doesnt confirm it on their page for KCRW's World Festival (http://www.hollywoodbowl.com/tix/performance_detail.cfm?id=3336&back=%2Ftix%2Fseries%5Fworld%2Ecfm%3B) but they do add:
Artists:
Paul Oakenfold with special guest Carmen Rizzo
Jason Bentley, host
Program:
Additional artist to be announced
Not time to get excited yet but with confirmation of one date, I'm sure a lot more will come. Fingers crossed for our stateside dirts. I'll pass on anything I hear and post here of course.

if UW are coming to this, then it only makes sense that their North American tour would surround this date.
this makes me very happy.
ive already got confirmation of a dafty kinda gig in August here in Toronto.
bring it on boyz !
no melon juice this time sorryMy gut tells me that this reply means no Underworld at the show, but I'm not completely sure. Any way we could get a clear answer if you have one so that I can save the cash I will otherwise spend on a ticket?
Thanks mucho grande!:D

I just happened to turn on KCRW as Jason Bentley made the announcement. I guess they're going to be there. There're already tickets up on Ticketmaster if you buy 4 other shows at the same time. Um...I can't fit that bill so tickets for normal people go on sale May 6th, 10am. I'll be there refreshing like mad!!!

I'll be there. As is customary we should have a meet beforehand - I have a few remaining signed UW goodies so we'll give 'em out then.

It's not a very dance-friendly place but that hasn't stopped KCRW from organizing events with the likes of the Basement Jaxx there.
And, it's a KCRW-sponsored event which means a sensible NPR crowd who like NIIIIICE progressive music with the crusty bits cut off. Don't expect it to be 1996 with young hardcore kids banging their heads into the bassbins. :)
Still, the Hollywood Bowl is a place you play and say "I played the Hollywood Bowl - just like the Beatles and the Doors!" It carries a bit of music history weight to it.

I did check with Mike about this event and it wasn't confirmed as last week, you should wait to see it appear on uwlive before booking flight/ordering.

Jason Bentley (I think) confirmed it on KCRW within the past couple of days...
I agree with what Scott said, hence why I didn't buy tickets yet because they start off in the super seats which is pretty much the halfway point of the Bowl. I'm gonna have to buy some tickets off a season ticket holder or go the broker route. I'd much prefer to be as close as possible.

hello Dirts! I've been away for a while and only lurking since the format change at dirty.org. Still, I can't keep my composure with all this new UW info coming out about album releases, tour dates, etc. :)
I must say I'm reluctant to get excited about the potential Hollywood bowl gig. Just looking at some numbers....
The last time UW swept through San Francisco, they were billed with 4 other acts (including Dirty Vegas) and had to change from a 7000 person venue (Bill Graham Auditorium) to 1250 capacity Fillmore because of a lack of ticket sales. The Hollywood Bowl seats 18,000.
I want our boys to succeed as much as any of you, and I hope that they can pack that place out. Obviously there a lot of reasons why a show goes off well and why it doesn't - from promoters to marketing to natural disasters - but I think it might be a bit steep to believe this show could work well at that venue.
Perhaps KCRW is trying to lock down the performers with a thought to change venues later when they can better gauge ticket sales. I hope so because that means I'll still get to see UW!!
Sorry for the long post - I've missed you guys! :o

i was thinking of going from the uk and was sort of thinking it would be a good fun to see underworld out doors at THE hollywood bowl and though not really expecting it to be back to the 90s but expecting their usual great performance.i was hoping it would be busy though, any thoughts? its a big commitment on the wallet and i'd hate it if they changed the venue to some old theatre where you can't smoke.
I'm going to wait to see if they play a Floor/GA venue nearby before I commit to this.
I don't like the atmosphere at the Bowl. It's like watching a movie in a theater.

Yeah, sitting at an Underworld show seems contrary to one's natural functions.
I went to the Massive Attack show last year at the Bowl and it was dead in terms of a physically moving audience. Then again, I think most box people had consumed so much food and wine during the opening acts that it made it impossible for them to move (either that, or one figures you pay $120+ for your box seat, so you may as well sit in it).

I'm with you on this. I've been to the bowl several times and if you sit far enough in the back you can hear your thoughts over the music. If you want to hear UW loud you've got to sit as close as possible.... ugh, ticket brokers.... looks like I'll be drinking the free coffee at work over Starbuck's for a while.... DOH!!!
But I Am So Excited that UW are coming to LA!!!

KCRW has had nights at the Hollywood Bowl in the past (it's where/how I met my fiance last year), and they always do well. There will be no worries about having to change venues for this show.

They were great at the Wiltern indeed. The Hollywood Bowl is hit and miss for people. I've been to concerts there where everyone sits, and been to concerts where everyone is out of their seats. Only problem is the seats don't move from where they are. So there won't really be any kind of dancefloor. Other than that, I personally love being able to listen to music outdoors under the stars (As well as we here in Los Angeles can see them). It's also great to see people bring in an ice chest full of food and wine. Most places won't let people even bring in a sealed bottle of water, let alone food and wine.
The venue won't change though. KCRW will fill the place to a decent capacity.
