I've recently got my head around torrent downloading and am currently catching up on Prison Break season 2. I'm not going to be in to catch episodes 5 and 6 of 24 this Sunday night so am downloading those at the moment too. Thing is, I can't play the 24 files. I downloaded the XviD codec to play Prison Break and the 24 files are tagged with XviD but WMP spits out the same 'wrong codec' message when I try to open them. The 24 file I'm downloading ends with .HDTV.XviD-FQM. And I read something on another page about changing the tag and unzipping/unstuffing the files. Can anyone tell me how I'd do this? Is this the way to play the files?
Thanks in advance

a) this is not about "torrent"s, it's about codecs
b) file endings can be any sort of things
in your case, it suggests it is an "xvid" file, so you need the xvid codec. for example, look here (http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/).
and i strongly suggest you use another player... try VLC (Video Lan Player) (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/), it can play about any format imaginable ;)

Hooray for VLC! I'd already downloaded XviD to watch Prison Break but it wouldn't play 24 and I couldn't work out why. Now I don't have to care.
Thanks very much.

yup vlc is the way to go! mplayer works quite well as well, but more for osx and linux... i dont 'knwo how say apple and ms can put so much money into building a player and VLC is 10 times better and plays 10 times more...
and the file can end in .xvid, but more than likely it ended in .avi (if it was xvic) or mp4 (if a h264 file, which are becoming more common).
anyhow. rock on
