the explosions in the sky is quite good, as os LCD soundsystem
new Air leaked recently and it's said ot be "okay" if it was the real thing.
i've yet to find it for myself but it should happen soon enough.
new portishead inches closer to completion and i fully expect to see it done and out in 07.
!!!'s 'myth takes'
animal collective are due
so are MIA and NIN (who promised to have something this year because he's been working oh-so-hard)
fujiya and miyagis debut gets statewide release plus they're quick to release another one.
lets not forget massive attack.
gnarls barkley said ealier that they wanted to finish another album before the first one going big went to their heads, so i imagine they got quite a lot done.
annie and arcade fire (whose 'intervention' track found itself to radio recently) should be coming soon.
The Avalanches! (a man can dream, can't he?)
And I'm waiting for the Villalobos mix for the Fabric series...
looking forward to the imminent arrival of the new album from little barrie amongst the many others mentioned here...

NIN is probably not gonna happen. Anyone who's a real fan of the band would know that "it'll be ready in one year" means more like three years, but here's hoping! (its better than WITHUH TEETHUH)
I remember hearing on the Music For Listeners broadcast this summer that the Orb was working on a new album and it should be finished soon. Modest Mouse are definetely going to have their new album out next year.
And where did you hear Aphex was coming out with something new???

New Arcade Fire i think. And albums from a bunch of bands that I don't know yet. New bands never dissapoint! :)
New 4 Hero coming out at the end of January! That's exciting. A lot of the new tracks have been aired already, but I'm sure the album will have a unique feeling as a whole.
Also, new Cinematic Orchestra release! I'm possibly even more excited about this one.

I'll only believe new Aphex when theres a source from one of his record companies. Aphex and Guns and Roses are identical in the fact theres always something coming but never does......
One of my lecturers at uni interviewed him once and said he was that much of an arse that he called him a cunt halfway through the interview as he was just giving stupid answers.
New albums by The Earlies and DJ Scotch Egg should br out in 007 to:)
Liam - You heard the new cinematic orchestra stuff? I only realised it was coming till after your post, theres a few fansites with info on the album which aint out till april, but no sound clips!
New albums by The Earlies and DJ Scotch Egg should br out in 007 to:)forgot about the earlies one! after much delay the new album will be out in a matter of weeks! hoo-ray :)
i saw them live back in may and the new stuff sounds phenomenal - more upbeat than their earlier stuff it's like a big huge pyschedelic wall of sound
oh, and i'm also very excited now that i know there's a new cinematic orchestra album on the way too... :)

Got their 10" single last week and im liking what i hear, true what you say about the more upbeat stuff. Gutted their new tour aint heading my way, but i've seen them before on the twisted folk tour and it was a good gig indeed with 11 of them on stage!

Bloc Party
the new bloc party 'weekend in the city' album leaked about a month ago and its a triumph imo. the band has expanded & matured their sound from the agit-pop danceable guitar laden beats of 1st album, with excellent production work throughout.
lyrically, it nails every topic it covers, especially the track 'hunting for witches' which has a fantastic guitar hook in it.
stand outs for me are 'the prayer' which has a nice hiphop feel running thru it, 'on' which for me is the best song written about drug use in our generation for a long while, and 'kreuzberg' & 'sunday' which are simply beautiful love songs.
also originally my least favourite track 'i still remember' was wormed its way into my affections as a great pop song, when originally i was slating it for apeing coldplay/U2
will be surprised if the album doesn't blow up and they're not headlining the major festivals next summer. its that stong a collection of songs which combine to be more than the sum of their parts imo

i love hood , you do not , and so what ? get yourself some marzipan and leave me alone ! thanks
or it's your opinion about the album ? very instructive one !
Danke
i lol'd.
hood are pretty awesome, tho.
There is one track from the new Cinematics stuff floating around called "to build a home". Gilles Peterson has played it a couple of times. I think you can hear it on the new Solid Steel show at ninjatune.net at the very end.
Unfortunately it sound fairly unimpressive to me, but this does not dampen my spirits for the album.
And Eik, I don't believe you that the new 4Hero is shit. The tracks that I've heard from it have been great and reviews I've read have placed it well above Creating Patterns. It may not be another Two Pages but I'm sure we're in for a treat. These are the guys who pioneered the field Jungle and then later of NuJazz and Broken Beat.

the problem is, the new one is no jungle or nu jazz at all, and rather sounds like a soul album with average beats. no edge, nothing special

Looks like Meat Beat Manifesto should have a new one out for early summer 2007 (http://www.brainwashed.com/mbm/meat.html). I didn't really care for the jazziness of the last one, "At the Center", so I hope this one's a bit more in keeping with my personal tastes.

ya. i just picked up about 10 leaks and they are all golden!.
i think if we look back at the 2006 list though we'd probbly find that it's quite extensive as well?
edit: i meant that as in the people in the 2006 dirty poll who seem to think it was a shit year seem to be always looking forward instaed of rememberign what came out? also: maybe theere were lots of cross overs in 2006 vs. this thread::: portishead and uw are clear ones i remember...

check out What's the time Mr Wolf by The Noisettes and Modernaire... Im sure Modernaire is going to be one of the next big things.. they sound amazing but there are only a few tracks around.
Im as always excited about the next Air and new Portishead is just about time!!!
yeah, i've now got the little barrie, earlies, air & lcd albums
had the lcd one for a good few weeks now and i love it
only listened to the others once so far - little disappointed with the earlies one but that's only because it's not as upbeat as it was when they played the tracks live earlier in the year - sure it'll grow on me given time
the little barrie album's a lot mellower than the last one too but still sounded really good on first play
and the air one sounds like it could be an absolute stoned-cold classic :)

begin?
for the last two years the holiday season have seen an embarassment of leaks from many bands and artists. this is almost like part of christmas. the two most notable ones for me last year was TVOTR and mogwai. is this depressing because it sounds like we're more interested in acquisition rather than the music? the fact that we're being horrendously blatant about downloding these things well before they're due and sometimes against explicit wishes of the band? does it seem like we're competing?
you know i buy everything i love, man.
which is why i'm going to keep bugging your LJ friends page with occasional posts bitching about how broke i am! woo! [/beerhelmet]

it doesn't have anything to do with download vs. buy. i think it's depressing because it's about this age of information overload, and pouncing on leak after leak comes across like trying to scramble to the top of an ever-rising waterfall. i don't often download albums, except at the end of the year, when i'm playing 'catch up', and still i never succeed in catching up. and i know i'll never buy everything i download, even if my intentions are good. and the whole process of placing albums in a download queue, deciding to accept/reject, and then moving on has the uncomfortable ring of data processing. it seems very utilitarian or something, in contrast to how it used to work, where you were faced with these one or two albums you'd bought, and had to feel your way into some kind of relationship.
i'm not against digital by any means, i'm ultimately all for it, but there has to be a happier medium IMO.
it seems like for everything we turn our attentions to, we have to willfully turn away from something else. it's always been this way, but the feeling has never been more visceral.

I can never understand why there announced so far in advance. UW's last album was leaked i think about 3/4 months early. Explosions In The Sky and Bloc Partys albums arent due to feb, but there now both on my iPod.
I will buy them as i do with all my music!

i mean, it's basically marketing by now, isn't it?
Yer, but your more mainstream bands will always sell to a core audience. So if i was ever gonna illegal download anything and not pay, it would be from a mainstream label as they can afford the advertising. Gotta support the independent labels.

yup. except you're getting the whole product.
i'd agree with you if i was doing this via soulseek or something, but i do it mainly off of messageboards, so there's a lot of interaction going on as everyone is downloading the sendspace and megaupload. it's basically clicking a couple links and forgetting about it until it unzips on yr computer 20-30 minutes later, then you add it and listen to it and discuss at will. i think there's certain steps in place that still require you to care and not feel like you're just staying on top of a heap.

Quick observations:
New LCD is roughly equivalent to their first full length: it's okay but they obviously crush much harder on 12"s.
The new !!! is shockingly good. If killing Out Hud was necessary to get us this record, REST IN PEACE.
The new Air is shockingly boring. Guess we'll never get another 10,000hz Legend.
Not quite sure what to make of the new Menomena yet. Songwriting is pretty good but it feels as though the elements that made their debut so fun are now missing in favor of song craft.
The new Arcade FIre single feels... meh. It's definitely The Arcade FIre sound but it's lacking energy.

Something I'm very much looking forward to:
New Zealand-based electro/dub geniuses Pitch Black (http://www.pitchblack.co.nz/?s1=index) are planning on releasing their fourth album sometime this year.
Me = happy. I love them, their tracks are deep and elaborate and flawlessly produced as well.
Apparenly they're a great live band as well but sadly I haven't been able to see them yet.

the new Low album is said to be quite good, and different (read: not "indie") ... fairly intrigued.
also, Dubstep Allstars 5 mixed by N-Type aka shit hot DJ
the new gruff rhys solo album is ace - chilled out acoustic guitar melodies (apparently the next super furries album is 'loud & upbeat' and so he had a lot of quiter stuff he'd written left over) and is a real grower and laced with the usual SFA humour
and the kings of leon are back in the spring with their brand new album which i'll be interested to hear...

Chronic 2001 is great. And Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle, which I think dr. Dre mainly produced, is musicaly so fucking good!!! Unbelievable.
Not my favourite producer, but I respect his work and I like Doggystyle a lot(probably his best work). I don't know, I think now he's not refreshing enough for the scene, except at times... We'll see...
