View Full Version : UW Fans Stuck in Bad Weather, Proof God Hates Underworld?

Our fearless travellers are stuck in the slums of Finland, unable to cross the frigid waters seperating them from a night in Tallin getting their earholes probed by glorious sounds from Underworld. After trecking through the most dire parts of Europe (Utrecht + Amsterdam), these brave men are now stuck in one of the most uncivilized parts of the world, with nothing but hot food, liquor and high speed internet to keep them warm. Is there no god? Does god hate Underworld or more importantly, Underworld fans? Perhaps Helsinki has a "crossroads" where Frodo and his pal can sell their souls to the Devil (dressed as Tiesto) for a safe passage to Tallin. Perhaps the Underworld Hydrofoil can zip across the choppy waters to resue them from ending up drunk on the streets of Helsinki and immortalized in some GreetingsFrom website. Either way, this is proof that downloading is bad for the music industry. Let us pray.

heheh.
me & themissis got to heathrow on fri @ 5am ish and found out our flight had been cancelled cos finnair were on strike! god hates underworld fans? yup maybe... i thought our weekend was scuppered. later they found a spare 747 lying around and squeezed about 4 plane loads of people onto it. finally we were on the way... :D we watched finland getting bigger and bigger and were just a few cm from the ground when the pilot suddenly pulled up and we were up in the clouds again. there was an announcement i couldnt quite make out. prob summat like "ladies and gentlemen i'm sorry about that i've not flown a 747 before". everyone looked nervous but we circled round and the pilot had another go. success!
v excited to get to finland and then got a text from stimpee and found about their unsuccessful tallinn voyage. gutted for 'em.
on sat we hooked up for some reindeer&beer before the gig (and found out the gig venue had changed just in time!). good to meet u stimpee, lloyd, mark, justin&missis (sarah?) and others who's names i've forgotten. the stockholm club was pretty cozy and it was a fantastic gig. there were a couple of new tunes, a bit of karl reading out some car makes/models/years and lots of classics inc cowgirl, rez, juanita, jumbo, born slippy, pearls girl, peggy sussed (heller remix?), king of snake, my ears are still ringing. took some crap fotos and a couple of good ones which i'll post later :)
keep it dirty

Great to meet you and the missis! Some great pix of the meet and the concert. But where is the rudolph-burger picture??
Mmm... I was driving a Lithuanian car somewhere between Riga & Tallin when I received this sms from Stimpee telling me that he & Lloyd couldn't find a way to come to Tallin... I could really feel how f****d they were!!! (and I won't copy the sms's exchange we had here ;))
When I finally arrived to Tallin, looking at the weather, trying to find a bedroom (quite every hotel in the city was fully booked) & seeing the hordes of Finnish people going apparently every Friday to Tallin to spend the week-end, I could understand why they couldn't make it...
It was very nice to meet you again (after Cocoon ;)) in Helsinki saturday pm, Stimpee, Lloyd & all the others for this great gig in this small club (even if, imo, it was not the best of the "Baltic gigs").
And what a beautiful after party with SCSI-9...

Hey Kids,
Great to meet up in Helsinki - Stimpee, Lloyd, John & his missus - thanks for making the occassion even better - nice comfy bar in between the gigs with top bongo playing.
So glad they changed the venue - really special. Great after show do with SCSI 9 - shame they're weren't too many people there. Those ruskies have some interesting dress sense - flat caps obviously just coming into fashion there :)
Missed the reindeer dinner but did notice there was canned bear soup on sale at the duty free
I will see if I can get Sarah to get her photos off her phone - may be a challenge but she had a good one of Karl & Darren.

i'm so jealous....seeing as how lloyd and stimpee are my personal heros...(next to myself, of course) ... would have been nice to see them all again. i can't imagine how it felt to know that underworld were playing and they couldn't get there. i would have puked.

Hi Justin and Sarah, great to meet you too. Yeah reindeer diner was a bit of a last minute gathering of dirts, the place even a more last minute find because they didn't serve it everywhere.
That Beatroot bar is a nice place yep, we were there the night before too. The bongo player was a saturday extra I think, worked ok though.
The afterparty at the Globe was great indeed, would have been even better more people had showed up. SCISI-9 were fab!

Yeah when we entered the boatcompany and show the cue of people and the boardinginfo-screen with 2 cancelations on it, my heart did make a jump. Then when discussing what to do, all other slots were cancelled too. After some calling around to other companies, asking if there was another option, flying perhaps, it got clear that we weren't going to make it.
Well... you can't do anything about it then, you know you did all you could to make it..... then a finnish sauna gets the stress out of you. :)
But it still feels bad indeed, I would have liked to see how new fans reacted to an UW gig, that's why I went in the first place.
