Haven't gotten it yet, but plan to shortly...

FYI:

"here are 45 minutes and 33 seconds of body music. The idea, to make a long piece of music built around an arc designed for running, appealed to me because it was so anathematic to what you're typically asked to do as an artist; make easily digestable lumps of music for albums, or the radio, or whatever. I'd been thinking of the records I love in which people made one "song" that took up the entire LP, and realizing that releasing something like this would be a virtual impossibility for me, I became excited when the Nike+ project came along."

To buy this new piece of music by LCD Soundsystem, and for more information, visit iTunes where you'll find it on sale from October 17th 2006.

i thought you were talking about the old stereo mc's song/albumn which is great.

however, this sounds really interestign (although i can't figure out if it is actually lcd soundsystem or not)

Yep. It is. It's completely different James Murphy, but James nonetheless. I've listened twice now, and am digging it. I'm anxioius to use it like it's meant to be "used". In a work out capacity...

An original set of music (not unlike what Underworld has done with their RiverRun projects) comissioned by Nike and created under the guise of making tracks that work well for "jogging." It's all quality stuff across the board and a little bit jammier than LCD's usual work, but the first ten minute segment is straight up fantastic disco that should really have it's own 12" release; James Murphy momentarily drops his ear for crossover and finally gets into bed completely with all things Chic, complete with an excellent vocal stab: "Shame on you!"

As for it's genesis as "jogging music" I call bullshit - like most dance music it works fine working for out but the real reason is buried in the official PR for the release: Nike offered LCD cash to create music outside of the normal boundaries of big money publisher/artist relationships. Nike gets some hip cred attached to a new product and LCD gets financing to Yowza Yowza Yowza.

just bought this yesterday.

i wasn't sure if i was going to pick this up, but then i saw the review on pitchforkmedia and gave it a shot. i personally won't be using this mix to go running, but i can say that it is damn good for working in the lab :). worth my $10 as far as i'm concerned.

I think a bunch of artists are getting deals with nike to create similar sets.

a lot of people are on and on about different parts of it but as far as i know i was the only one to give most love for the first ten minutes too. after about 11 minutes i just rewind it back to the beginning.

overall i think it's pretty good but too much 'comedown' for home listening.

Fuck that other thread, this thread is the BOMB!

I limped back onto the treadmill today with this album. I didn't last 45 minutes and 33 seconds - what the hell is up with that, Nike and LCD Soundsystem!?

It was pretty good. It doesn't at all come across as 'one big song'.

Man, I'm feeling this thread. This is sooooo good!

I haven't got this yet. Is it only available on iTunes?

I loves me the LCD Soundsystem. I'll be getting this as soon as my home computer's back up and running. Or rather, as soon as my home is back up and running. Damn remodeling....think long and hard before you do any remodeling people.... :(

Ten bucks seems kind of steep.

i haven't heard it yet...

but just out of curiousity...is it related to 76:14?

Bleh, kinda bummed it is only available through iTunes but w/e. I'll get it soon. The sample from iTunes was wonderful that's for sure. Although I have mixed feelings to listening to music that is outright retro this seems to be too well done to let it pass by.

Nah...what I heard is like pure disco.

Ten bucks seems kind of steep.Yeah, but when you consider most albums nowadays are like 45 mins total for the same price, it's not that bad. Daft Punk's Alive 1997 is roughly the same length and the same price. Don't get me wrong, I was kinda bummed when I saw that too--I was spoiled, I think, by the 2005 DFA Holiday Mix that was on iTunes for a buck. But it is a great mix. The quality will make up for the ten bucks you pay for it (assuming you don't just get it from someone who already bought it).

Well the sample I heard on iTunes was nothing like LCD Soundsystem and it was 110% disco. But it was really really good. That was what I was refering to anyways.

That was what I was refering to anyways.Eh, I wouldn't really call anything past the first 10 minutes or so "disco" per se, but if it is, it's LCD Soundsystem's version of it. It's still very electronic, btw, and rockin.

AAAAARGH! I've been merged by the stimp. Why has the title of MY thread been integrated into the title of SCOTTS thread? Man talk about seniority.

Anyway, I dont' believe i've ever been the subject of a "favorite thread" well not me but "my" thread.

Wait.

Weren't we talking about LCD Soundsystem?

This is so good. It's not Yeah, or Losing my Edge. It's bits of sublime. IT's bits of AssShaking. It's bits of complexity. It's space Disco.

buy it. listen to it. love it. you will. oh yes. you will.

man, the first 10 minutes of this is SO SO SO amazing. i haven't really paid attention to the whole thing yet, but man oh mon is the first 'track' so brilliant...

i gotta say that it does seem a bit mixed rather than one 45 minute 'movement'. compared to kiteless/../... where you can barely tell the tracks change, cause it's so gradual...

anyhow, it is great

methinks there's a trend with releasing digital tracks (one long track with subtracks) going on here...

Wow I've heard snippets of it and it really rocks! There's this track with kinda lowpitched vocals, it has a beat that has a really nice drive. Ass shaking indeed.
