View Full Version : UW @ Cocoon - PRE-MEETING DETAILS!

After thinking about a good place to meet before the gig at Cocoon, i came to the conclusion that it might be the best to meet at a central place in the city centre. I came up with the Nachtleben, which is a bar with a nightclub downstairs, but of course the bar is free entry. It has reasonable prices (for a bar in the city centre) and it is next to the Konstabler Wache, a very central place in Frankfurt, and it shouldn't be too crowded on a thursday evening.
Another plus is that we have two choices of getting from there to Cocoon, which is a bit outside.
1) we can take the metro (line U6) to Ostbahnhof and then get on the tram line 11.
2) we can walk about 5 minutes and get directly on the tram line (might be a bit cheaper and we dont have to change services)
I put both possibilites on a metro map of Frankfurt: >click< (http://www.thelastbeat.com/map-meeting.jpg)
Here is the address of the Nachtleben:
Nachtleben (http://www.batschkapp.de) (beware - there are infos about two diff. clubs on there)
Kurt-Schumacher Str. 45
(Konstablerwache / Zeil)
60313 Frankfurt
Here is a map of the place from the official website: >click< (http://www.batschkapp.net/data/nachtl_detail.gif)
and here is one i draw with my sensational photoshop skills: >click< (http://www.thelastbeat.com/map-meeting2.jpg)
It is really easy to find, because a lot of the metro lines, trams and buses are stopping at Konstabler Wache. Since it is a fairly huge metro station, you might not find the correct way out and end up somewhere else. Here is some orientation: The Konstabler Wache itself is basically a huge open place surrounded by trees. On one corner is a McDonalds, just at the beginning of the shopping street Zeil. The bar is exactly on the opposite corner of the place (check the map).
------------------
Concerning getting back home from Cocoon: Unfortunately, the last tram on a thursday night departs at 1:30, the earliest at 4:30 (same goes for the metro). So the only real option would be a cab, depending on where you are staying, unless you are good by foot (i reckon it would be a 30 min walk to the city centre).
------------------
Please let me know what you think of this idea if you want to join the meeting. Another option might be to meet in the bar of the Golden Leaf hotel (http://www.golden-leaf-hotel.de/html/hotels_frankfurt/ffm_uebersicht.cfm), were quite a few of us are staying, and which is a bit closer to Cocoon, but i think it might be a bit hard to get there for people staying somewhere else and i don't know if the hotel direction would enjoy it.
cu there :)

Five minutes walk to the tramline? Hmmm - might be able to manage that ! :D
Great - the bar sounds fine, but either the bar or the hotel will be fine by me.

Some place that sells food around there too? I know I'm demanding but I've a need for food sometimes ;)

This bar the Nachtleben is it far from the frankfurt am main HBF (train station)? Our hotel is just acros the train station.
There are some streets I know when I was in frankfurt with the world cup.

approx 15-20 min walk, or simply take the metro two stops (line U4 or U5) or any S-Bahn (follow the S inside the train station, just make sure you get the one in the right direction) to Konstabler Wache.

Thx. Think the metro lines are on another plan. Becasue the stop with the circle on your map for cocoon is not on that large map.

true, that's a tram stop tho, not a metro stop. there is no metro near cocoon. try this (http://rmv.de/coremedia/generator/ExterneLinks/RMV/Fahrplaene/Netzplaene/LINK__PLA__1__traffiq__Liniennetzplan__UBahnStrass enbahnSBahn,templateId=redirect.html?url=http_3A_2 F_2Fwww.traffiq.de_2FLiniennetz__Frankfurt__am__Ma in__2006.pdf) map for everything (in a new layout actualy, never seen that before!)

I'd like to take the S6 and get off at (second) Bad Vilbel (in the North-East). :)
the S6 was my line when i was living at home. i had to change in bad vilbel every day. and by the way, the true second bad vilbel is a town called Glossop, about 30 min outside Sheffield. i went through there on my way to manchester the other day. and yes, it's the hometown of the Autechre boys - go figure ;)
Meeting in the bar would be good I think, if the music's not too loud. Might be nice if we can have actual conversations.
Eikman, I'm also expecting you to guide us on the second day :p are there any must sees in Frankfurt?

1. First I thought you made up the word 'Glossop' but I found virtual evidence of it on teh inter-webz (might still be a conspiracy like Bielefeld, though).
2. According to a post by some guy called 'dragsterman' on discogs (http://www.discogs.com/release/3894) (scroll down), Glossop is a twin city of Bad Vilbel, so that's the connection between the two. Do you know whether this is true?
Back on topic:
The stop for cocoon is dieselstrabe? It would seem so: map (http://www.stadtplandienst.de/map.asp?sid=7f5ff213e7b22f8be77184de6957ff81&size=5x5) (except it's called 'Dieselstraße', where ß = funny German letter often substituted by 'ss').

it's more fun if you read the ß's as S's

like i said, just beneath the town sign of glossop is a sign "twin city: bad vilbel, germany". i went past there about 2 weeks ago, so the town is pretty much real, and thats where the connection comes from. autechre are from glossop, the twin town is bad vilbel, hence: second bad vilbel. old facts, actually. get up-to-date, man. :p
I've read all the posts here, and I have just few words to say : Thanks Eikman for all these details.
I like the idea of the meeting in this Nachtleben bar, and, as I'm a bit like Lloyd ("I've a need for food sometimes"), I'm quite sure that in such a central place, there will be minimum a few options for a proper dinner...

well this gig isn't THAT simple...most of us UK dirts have to make a ferry journey or plane flight to get to Germany where this gig is... (i'm leaving the at 12:30pm to see them play at 9pm ish)
but usually (when they do play here) you can hop on a train yeah....

i'll be in the bar too
my flight gets in at 2 ish so i'll be at the hotel at around 3-4 i suppose
i'll be in a nice uniquely designed white underworld t-shirt - with frankfurt 12.10.06 on the front
If german trains are on time, and if internet is as reliable as it should be (means I should have a bedroom booked at this hotel...), I'll be at the hotel bar around 4 - 4:30pm I suppose...
ps : dunno how which t-shirt I'll wear but I'll probably read a french newspaper... :D
LOL I'M ACTUALLY GOING TO FRANKFURT TOMORROW! :D
I'll be wearing a black jacket by Dickies. And a black t-shirt by Carrhart under it.
