Funds being available, I would be up for all three. Realistically prolly only Tallin and Helsinki though. But the dosh is the issue at the moment.

But in principle..... WOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO!! BRING IT ON! :D

Tallinn and Helsinki sound good

we could call the trip ' Ta Hel and Back... '06 '

How come you're hesitating to go to Riga? It's in the same region and, more important, the Riga gig is the first

Money is the only constraint for me - but it's a bloody big one right now, unfortunately :(

Maybe for all three, but I should've voted YES for Tallinn and Helsinki :)

It's just plain fun to plan the whole trip :D

19 October 2006
Event: TBA
Venue: Riga Arena
Riga, Latvija

My birthday is the 19th and my Fall break is from the 17th till the 21st, possibilities, possibilities. Good thing I know this know so I can start to calculate the cost of travel etc.

Really wonder how much the tickets will be, but would be cool (litterally) if I could see em on one of those dates. Guess this is what they mean with "special locations"; eastern europe and south america.

i dunno if im going yet but i've been before and all three of the first dates are possible. if i had more time i'd stay in helsinki for a week and then hope over to saint petersburg. for tallin to helsinki try tallink or copterline.

AAARRGHHH!

Make all three gigs in Riga! Oh, I just opened the www.underworldlive.com (http://www.underworldlive.com) and saw, that UW will be playing St. Petersburg and thought 'cool! I can make it! My cousin lives there too'. Then I took a look a bit higher and saw Estonia - 'even better! Closer and still some relatives there!’ and THEN i saw IT, few lines higher, 19.October, Riga, Latvija (although it should be Latvia, but what the heck) and was totally like  multiplied about 1000000 times. I can't believe it! This is so cool. Finally, my home town. No need to go anywhere abroad, no need to find a place to stay and I'm certain (and determined) no work that day, or next, or one before. I can't say enough, but THANK YOU UW.

LIELS PALDIES! Tas ir vienkārši un totāli kolosāli!

how popular will the show be in riga? is it a big venue? do many people in riga know who underworld are? 10 years ago i didn't know where riga was !:)

sulik

To tell the truth, I really doubt that many people are familiar with UW here. Ok, that can partially be explained by our... rather low population number. You can’t practically have many fans where there aren’t many people. Once I searched the local internet for UW fan pages and found none :( Same explanation I guess. Still I’m sure that the gig will have many people participating in it, because… who doesn’t like to party? :) I’m also sure that local concert promotion companies will promote the concert quite nice and thus attract quite a lot of people. Probably it will be the same as it was with Massive Attack concert couple years ago. While standing in the line, I heard a lot of people asking question each other about what kind of music does Massive Attack play. One quote was something like – “Isn’t it a heavy metal band of some sorts?” Still the stadium, where the concert was held, was almost completely full. I recon same will be with the UW concert, so no worry there :)

sulik
07-14-2006, 06:17 AM
not too big, and not too small. Riga Arena is the new building (hockey stadium) built specially for hockey championship that took place in Riga this year. probably more info can be found http://www.arenariga.com/en/.

don't let yourself be fooled by numbers :)
in zurich (where i live ATM) the venue was filled, too - and zurich has only half as many citizens as riga (ok, it was a relatively small venue, i'd gess around 1000 people). and as for fan-pages: there are none in switzerland, too, and as far as i kno, i'm the only swiss on this dirty board.

i think it rather depends on how much "western" (sorry for that bad expression) electronic music is known in lativa, i've been to places in eastern europe where only "chart-hits" were known.

sulik
07-14-2006, 07:43 AM
yeah, those "chart-hits" are "a problem". mostly as far as i know here in riga local night life consists of night clubs with their club music, some jazz clubs and live "country-like" music. oh, yeah, there is one place where alternative music is played, and the bands that are on stage there are quite "non-char-hits-like", but as for clubs where "normal" (as i call it, excuse me if anything) electronic music could be played, there are none.

but as i said, with good advertising the gig will be filled with people. although i would much like the gig to be of a smaller "scale", like in zurich for the same 1000 people.

it is strange sometimes how the tickets sell. Here in holland the 3 concerts sold out, the 5daysoff gig within 3 days or so. The cancelled gig in Gelsenkirchen germany didn't sell enough tickets so the promotor cancelled the whole festival. Luxemburg... ,a very small venue, there still were tickets sold at the door when we got there. But I think it nearly was soldout in pre-sale.

This'l prob sound insane, but I hate flying and reckon I could get to the riga and/or tallin gigs by train, via eurostar to brussels (I've been thro the chunnel several times and it doesn't faze me - going OVER the sea freaks me out!!). Does anyone from the uk want to join me??

well i'm now 99% in...

done some cost analysis - flight from London to Tallinn, (then gig), then boat from Tallinn to Helsinki (just €17!), then another gig and then flight From Helsiinki back to London

works out at around £200

plus hotels and gig tickets, so its looking good for me...

Because the organization of frankfurt concert have booked underworld from another promoter, pheraphs the german promotion of underworld is not under primary.co.uk

overlord
08-08-2006, 11:07 AM
For example, see gotan project page on primary.uk: there are only two concerts, in uk, but if you see on gotan project official page, there are almost 30 dates in their tour, this because pheraphs primary is the promoter for only uk of gotan project

Those of you considering the eastern Europe dates might want to have alook at BA's special offers here http://www.britishairways.com/travel/easterneuropereductions/public/en_gb.

Very annoying for me as I'll be in Riga 3 weeks after they play and flight prices now much cheaper  . However my company's head office is in Frankfurt so trying to arrange meeting there in October. Flying back on free business class with a sore head suits me fine :)

finally some "local" information about UW gig in Riga.

http://www.propeller.lv/posts/underworld_massive!/ (http://www.propeller.lv/posts/underworld_massive%21/)

this is the site of the concert agency that will organize the concert in Riga. as i understand, the agency is relatively new, so.. i can't tell for sure how good or bad, for that matter, the organization of the gig will be. still no information about the tickets :/

*edited*

uh, i've finally used my brains and explored the site a little. this agency has very good partners, with whom other such agencies work as well. that should clear any doubt about the quality of the organization. it should be really nice.

Excellent quote :)

The truth is - the tickets, that are sold for 30Ls are indeed seated, but tickets for 15Ls are standing. Here’s how it looks:

http://shop.piletilevi.ee/plevi/upload/Rigaarena.gif

the 15Ls tickets are in the middle, on the ice (which of course will be covered)
the 30Ls tickets are seated area 103

I can't imagine who'd ever want to sit in a concert like this.

Tickets can be bought here:

http://shop.piletilevi.ee/cgi-bin/wspd_cgi.sh/WService=plevi/proc/inter_step3.p?lang=ENG&show=4568&key=&liik=koik&intsp=131#plvsiin

just press the "button" how and a popup will appear with detailed information on how to buy tickets. If it's too hard for you, pm or email me, we'll think of somethink.
