Yet another version of LOTR will be out in August, each movie with a 2 disc "limited edition". Disc 1 will have part 1 of the extended version and part 1 of the theatrical and Disc 2 will have part 2 of the extended version and part 2 of the theatrical. Oh joy!
They are hyping some new documentary with it too but for fuck's sake they've already said they're working on an "Uber-LOTR" HD-DVD with all of the bloopers and deleted scenes etc.

well yeah, it was to be expected that this was going to get milked to the limit a la Star Wars.
I already have all the 4 disc boxes, so they'd have to come up with something pretty special indeed to get me to buy any other version.

One gripe about those four disc boxsets, the lack of promotional material that those motherfuckers at New Line decided not to include on the four disc set. Like the wonderful trailer for The Two Towers which used a re-recorded version of a piece of Clint Mansel/Kronos Quartet's score from Requiem for a Dream.

are some people really that inclined to buy these...?!?!?
i get the Star Wars rereleases (especially this time around - the originals), but LOTR, will not everyfan already have the 4 disc sets or if not just the standard 2 disc releases... (i have the sets with the statues / models :) )
extras schmextras...
this is nothing new for the fans, its just the money, how many 'casual' (i.e not hardcore) collectors buy every verion or updated verions of movies... does the LOTR movies have the follwoing Star Wars has??? (its big, but how big, i think New Line are taking the biss)
i mean, i love buying DVD's and bought the Alien Legacy box set when it came out (cost me £69.99) then they released the Quadrilogy (is that even a word?) a few years later and i wasn't gonna go buy that - even if it did contain some different versions, because i'm not that much of a fan... i like the movies and will watch them, but not enough to go out and spend another £70+ on a different box set (and now you can get the Alien Head version for just £49.99 in HMV - which is tempting as it looks cool...) but i have the movies already...and this is the same with LOTR...imo
but back to Star Wars, i am a very big SW fan so will buy the DVDs in September even though i have 'like' versions already on VHS & DVD... i suppose some people will succumb like I will with the Wars, but its too soon for a new version of the rings yet.

some people are still getting dvd players,
and some people just haven't gotten around
to buying all these movie series yet..
there will always be a market for them..
dont forget, they'll probably re-release
them all in hd-dvd and blu-ray also..

I have to say, I'm tempted.
The Extended Versions (which I have all three of) are very cool sets but they do not contain the original versions of the movies. The extended versions of the movies are interesting but I do not prefer to watch them over the originals.
If these new sets contain the same extras (And more) as my current box sets then I'll probably pick these up and get rid of the old ones.

No features other than the new documentary.:(
