What a fabfreakingtasticmothermover of a show!
First of all we had a great meeting with some fellow dirties at the cafe next to the HMH, all nice people of whom some travelled 13 hours by train from Poland to see the show. Not that flying in from the UK or even NY is 'crazycrazycrazy'... But driving 13 hours by train.. my goth! Meeting details in the thread about it.

The show.
After darren DJ'ed, Blackstrobe came on stage and played an interesting concert. Some of the tracks were good, some nice. It wasn't my stuff really, rythms and the used synth sounds didn't differ enough per track. But the BASS was loud and banging :) Always good!

Darren spun some nice tracks again and around 9pm rick and karl came on stage to do some last tweaks and let the first track flow over the track darren was spinning.
The rest was one flow of energy, tweaked tracks, improvs and everything we love about Underworld. Precise tracklist I'll leave to other people as I'm already lost. But, we got a super-extended-Uber-long version of KoS which was brilliant. Juanita was played! Not only Rick sang but also Darren. Darren sang through the vocoder over a great track which has Dub influences. The 'visions' song is great played live and also the track with the DnB/triphop rythm went down well with the dutch crowd.
Ofcourse Born Slippy was welcomed by a roaring crowd, it was mixed in after a very good improv. The people did remember Push Upstairs very well and got them moving and shouting and singing. There was another new track, very slow and had interesting lyrics, it sounded like it was made for a movie. After a hot, steaming 1:45 flow of energy it was over and the crowd gave them a long and very loud applause. After a couple of minutes they were back on stage to play Jumbo.
Then it was really over, Karl told us that the vibe was to good to stop but 'Vibe-police' wouldn't allow anymore.
With a little trouble we met with all our friends again, waited for some time at the artist door but had to leave for trains and metros before they came out.
Super concert! Thanks boys and all the people we/I met today!

All I can say is, wow.

First of all, thank you to all the other dirties that I met, for turning my solo journey into a full on group effort. It was an unforgettable night.

The show - it can be broken down into two distinct parts. The first hour was mixed together - like a club gig. Brilliant song selection, a few new ones, a few old ones. Including Juanita/Kiteless, which I had never heard live before this gig. The second hour was played song by song, with breaks in between. Different, but fantastic none the less. Yes, you could tell that the boys had one more in them, but were constrained by the clock. All of this done in the HMH, which is an amazing venue - great acoustics and plenty of room to dance.

Now it's 3.40, and I must be getting to bed.

Cheers

tracklisting (as I remember it):

01 new track
02 improv
03 juanita
04 pearl's girl
05 improv
06 BS Nuxx/2003
07 new track
08 Push Upstairs
09 new track
10 King of Snake
11 Cowgirl/Rez
12 Jumbo

could be slight difference in the order played but that's about it. They played three new tracks, including the vision/drum 'n bass track. The other two were much slower, laid back pieces. They played Juanita!! That was very cool, although I missed that synth sound which starts of live juanita on EE or bootlegs like ECG. This was more of a straight album version although mixed very nicely with the opening track.
Surprisingly, nothing at all was played from AHDO.
Sound was good, although at some points, especially the BF tracks later on in the show, I kinda missed the punch of the kickdrum, as if it wasn't quite loud enough in the mix. The visuals weren't really interesting, they use a few camera's on stage to capture grainy nightvision footage of the band and audience and play it with a few effects on it. And there was no video for most of the show anyway. Bring back the Tomato video's!!!
I really loved the first half of the show, because it of juanita and the fact that it was all mixed together and improvised like it should be. The second half was not quite as good, playing all the standard tracks with pauses in between (of course there were the new tracks which kept things interesting). Rez was played very short, almost like an outtro to cowgirl only it seemed. It was still a great show though, probably the best one I've seen so far.

i'd like to add how great it was to finally meet up with so many dirties/rtsr's after all these years. we had a big group of about 20 before the show!

this was also my first uw show, and it was everything i could want it to be. the new tracks were different but personally i really liked them, esp the dnb/trip-hop beats.

i'll let you know when i've sorted all my photos/video - hopefully be online in the next few days.

Awesome!!!

Really enjoyed the show. Loved the new track they started with! Also the KoS-version they played was excellent, heard some parts of the version they put online on underworldlive.com, great!!

It was a wonderful evening! I hope 3voor12 (http://3voor12.vpro.nl/3voor12/festivals/media/index.jsp?portal=2534202&event=22956363) will put some content online, they already did with the concerts of 13 & 14 Juli from the 05 Days Off-festival :)

They played TMO in Poland at least. We also didnt get Dark Train like they did. And of course we didnt get Moaner because of the time limit, but i was happy anyway :) Looks like they are still experimenting.

Hello Dirties,

I put us on Flickr, for the other members to see!

Dirty Meeting at Jinso outside HMH before Underworld show. (http://www.flickr.com/photos/71158126@N00/)

It was a great show! Nice entry into the show to hang out with the dirties from all corners of the Earth, It was a great positive atmosphere in the HMH, you could tell there were FANS! At the festival Impulz where I once saw them they played great, but not as intense a sphere as Sunday night!

I thought the dancing of Karl was also spectacular! The lighting played an important role! Hihi,

No doubt a unique show, nice to hear new and known songs. After party? Can't complain as we were dancing, getting home we were lucky to find a taxi, so sory we lost you dirties during the show, we were right of the stage pretty close to Underworld.

Lets hope they keep touring and come back to the Netherlands soon! I Love Techno, Gent would also be good if they played.

hey peeps,

I'm new here, though I've been following underworld for quite a while. I also went to this show (I won a passepartout to the whole festival on 3FM). Great show, though not the best Underworld I've seen. I can remember em playing in the Alpha tent on Lowlands once, which was right before or right after the release of Everything, Everything I think. That show was ROCKING. Anyway, this one was definately good, I enjoyed it a lot.

I made some pictures, though I was quite late so couldn't really get a good spot for pics. Three of them were OK enough to put online: on Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/skoop/tags/underworld/)

Enjoy :)

Another newcomer to the forum here. :)
Been following Underworld for a few years now, but somehow never saw them live before last Sunday, and now I kick myself for not making a bigger effort to see them at earlier occasions.

In any case, the show was fantastic, and they performed all my absolute favourites: Juanita, Rez/Cowgirl...

Next time they're even marginally in the vicinity I'll be there again!

Hello!

My account is finally activated so time for my reply!

Great Great show! Not as good as Rock Werchter, but that is because I don't know the new songs that well so you more or less stand still and try to get into them and I have to say that I quite liked the slower ones and especially the opening track! I thought they should have played another encore and I was realy hoping for MoMove or Luetin or something. Thankfully an up tempo version of Jumbo made everything allright and I was delighted by Juanita/Kiteless.

Just to watch Karl dance on stage is such a joy in itself as well. Makes me smile big time! Fuck them OOR reviewers cos they obviously don't know shit! It was very crowded and I couldn't swing my arms around me as much as I wanted to, and normally I hate that when I constantly feel people's elbows against me but it wasn't THAT packed! And if you are all in trance of the music it doesn't matter anyways.

The visuals weren't very interesting though, but I think they were just trying to experiment with this gig a bit and focus more on the music and not aiming to please sad reviewers by playing a greatest hits setlist which they already did at Rock Werchter, so I was personally glad for more experimental and newer stuff. I'm glad they played slower songs like Jumbo, and the one they played before Cowgirl (can't remember if that was the Vision song or not)
One day I hope to hear the full version of Cups or SolaSistim live, cos that would be godlike! I'm sure that when the new album is released, they will be performing more structured and more bombastic or ...<fill in a ''reviewer language'' adjective>... show.

Had a damned good time! Wonderful and friendly atmosphere created by the whole crowd! I am looking forward to the new album and another show!

Also: Stimpee, thanks for complimenting my ''I need sugar'' shirt. Your self-made ''Luetin'' shirt is cooler though!
Also respect for Jason for coming all the way from New York. Thanks for the short chat and nice to meet you both!

yeah, sorry that we didnt have time to talk longer but you did say you were on Dirty. Nice to meet you anyway! I didnt think those Somerset House t-shirts were available online as I got mine when i went to the gigs (yes, both of em :D). My Luetin one was based on the t-shirts UW did for the Japanese dates at the end of 2003, only with www.dirty.org on the back instead of the dates in the same style as the Somerset House info. Many thanks to Yannick for the scans of this rare t-shirt!

Shevek
07-19-2005, 08:24 AM
I was quite surpirsed to find the shirt online as well. It was the only one available online at that time together with the blank shirt for which you have to iron all those words and letters on it yourself. when I ordered it, I didn't even noticed the Somerset House data on the back. Just thought I buy it ASAP for they might run out and so they did I think.

Great pics Daeron thanks! I'm no dance music fanatic either, though I love to dance and go to raves such as Awakenings, but Underworld are on a different plane in that genre of course.

Did you see Sonic Youth at the Paradiso last year? Pretty fantastic show! Half an hour noise jam as an encore with all sorts of stuff they used on their guitar to create sounds!

Have seen Sonic Youth 2 times now, Tivoli-Utrecht and Eindhoven ( philipszaal?), both of them great shows, hypnotic but in a whole different way then UW ofcourse. These shows both were a few years ago, lately seem to miss them everytime.

I hope you enjoyed the pics me and my buddy took from UW. He also took 2 short movies with his camera from 'Pearl Girl' and ' Born Slippy'. it's not the best quality but it gives a real good sence of the atmosphere last sunday. All I can say is wow, what a show! The crowd at HMH were ace very cool people and very friendly! The party then seemed to carry on, on the first floor! (what was all that about? and how long did it go on for?) we were really up for it but had to get the train back to town, :( So being still in the mood to party we went to Melkweg in the Leidseplein, big wow, fantastic club and crowd! Micheal Mayer was there, truly amazing set might I add he had the crowd going bonkers check out his set, well worth a listen. http://3voor12.vpro.nl/3voor12/archief/index.jsp?showme=dj-sets. Those dutch sure know how to party..........Hard!
