well you know i love the Pet Shop Boys, and we already have a kinda New Order thread, and other band related bits here and there, so I thought i'd start one for Chris & Neil....
anyway here's the latest news, direct from http://www.petshopboys.co.uk/
Pet Shop Boys "Maxi-Mix" of Madonna's new single "Sorry" is now released on CD and can also be purchased on iTunes and other download sites.
An hour-long documentary about Pet Shop Boys is currently being filmed and will be shown on Channel 4 (in the UK) in May. A longer version will subsequently be released on DVD.
Pet Shop Boys will be performing their "Battleship Potemkin" music with the Northern Sinfonia orchestra at a free (but ticketed) event in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne on May 1. Full details on the pet shop boys site when available
i'd certainly got to this if i was in Newcastle...hopefully they will tour the Fundamental album after it comes out (now due May 22nd 2006) so expect some dates at the back end of the year, i reckon.

I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for this one, thanks for the heads up! I'm guessing they'll do this in the Sage where the orchestra usually playes, which is in Gateshead btw;)

I'm immensely excited and worried about 'Fundamental'. When I got into the PSB it was after Release had come out, so this is the first real "new PSB" album I've experienced. The fact that Trevor Horn is producing it worries me.

well i've not heard it but here are some reactions:
“The forthcoming Pet Shop Boys album is on the headphones, and it's a cracker. 'The Sodom and Gomorrah' show in particular, a great Friday night song if ever there was one.” Caspar Llewellyn Smith, The Observer
“The electro godfathers diss ID cards, the war on terror and dim celebrity boyfriends over thunderous Trevor Horn production on their best album for over a decade.” NME
“Already a candidate for song title of the year (‘The Sodom and Gomorrah Show’), this sees Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe return to the magnificently OTT disco pop of their heyday.” Q magazine
i actually like a lot of their recent stuff, but also wish they'd nip back a few years and this sounds like they may have done that...
who knows, its gonna sound like a Pet Shop Soys album, if we're honest, if you like Neil's voice and Chris's doodlings on the keyboard, then well i reckon we'll like it...

i'm always the odd man out when it comes to PSB. I think nightlife was their last great album. everything since has sounded like garbage. except *maybe* for Home and Dry

True - My plan is to be as pessimistic as possible so when it does actually come out I'll be dead wrong.

I got nightlife but with the exception of I don't know what you want... and You only tell me you love me... I'm not to keen on it.
I also don't really like Release either, except 'Home and Dry' and 'I Get Along'.
Disco 3 was pretty good though.

from the main site:
We would like to inform American Petheads that the USA release of "Fundamental" is under advanced discussion at the moment. We're hoping that it will be released in the USA on the same date as the rest of the world.
It is planned that Pet Shop Boys' world tour will begin in North America (Canada/USA/Mexico) in October.

Waiting to see if i got my tickets for the Newcastle gig!
Went to see the performance the other night, very good but very cold. Ironically a lot of the crowd thought it was going to be a full blown gig and not a performance of the soundtrack.
A massive dissapointment for me was the fact that there was a big black cloth covering the stage making it impossible to see them and the orchestra!
Best moment was the lone person who had clearly dropped something for the show and was dancing like a mad man even when it was all calm and beatless!

ok, i heard one of the remixes...not the original
for 'i'm with stupid'...
its a very dancey, upbeat song...
more like the style from their album
'very'.....not too bad.. i haven't heard
the regular version, so i can't really
judge what the album version will be like..
the lyrics aren't bad, reminds of when
i first heard 'its a sin'....
i haven't like the acoustic, or slower stuff
from the last 3 or so albums, maybe this
will be a return to form from them..

i'm not sure if its a real mix,
or a dj mix..
I'm With Stupid (Saint Ken's Full Anthem)
i know there were several vinyl 12"s
released, and different tracks on
different formats..
i really haven't kept up with lately..
but i might check out this new album..

ok, i'm listening to the new album now..
it is more of a throwback to their earlier
style of albums..
some upbeat dancey numbers mixed in
with some slow ballads that i dont'
really care for..
overall, an average album...
i'm pretty sure that once again there
will be several singles off it..
i saw that there will be a deluxe
2cd set in the UK with an extra
disc full of remixes....so there you
go...
it should be out later this month..

did you get the two disc set??
i really love what they've done with the tracks on the remix CD
i personally love the elton john featuring In Private - that is ace
as for the standard CD - i'm gonna need a couple of listens, but its very well polished
typical good quality PSB stuff

I don't necessarly like the fact that the new album has an obvious 'slow songs' and 'upbeat songs' division. Otherwise, it's pretty good and I like it alot. Minimal, IWS, 20th century, Integral, and I Made My Excuse and Left are my favorites. I only have a mp3 copy at the moment becuase it isn't being release in the US until the end of july, so I haven't heard the remix disc.
