And here's the linky (http://www.student.oulu.fi/~tpalonie/sivuraide/teemu-chicago.ogg). This one's an Ogg for maximum size/quality levels. Winamp plays Ogg natively and you can play Oggs in iTunes with the official plugin for MacOS and Windows right here (http://www.xiph.org/quicktime/download.html). If you're stupid enough to still be using WindowsMediaPlayer then the codec for that is here (http://www.illiminable.com/ogg/).

This one's worth it :)

I'm sorry I don't really like it. But that's because I'm not really into this type of music.

It does what it says on the tin. Its chicago house. If thats what you like, then you'll like it. If not, go back to whatever you were listening to, or persevere and stick it out. simple as that.

As for me, I think its damn funky. This was a live mix done for semi-weekly net radio show Sivuraide on Radio Ubik (http://www.radioubik.net/). Next show is saturday at 1900 CET and this week, its Techno/Electro which might be more your cup of tea, Leon. :p

What Leon said.

Though it says a lot that I immediately downloaded on the strength of it being him without noting the genre. (He got me at "...mude" :D)

I'll give it a whirl anyway ( >1 listen) ... who knows?

There is a techno mix coming :) and its gooood.

meanwhile the highlights of this mix so far for me are:

GU And Cei-Bei - House Music Will Never Die (cvos bismark hotel mix) - Cajual (44mins)
Phuture - Rise From Your Grave (wake mix) - Strictly Rhythm (56mins)
Frankie Knuckles - Baby Wants To Ride - Trax (95mins)
Green Velvet - Preacher Man - Relief (101mins)

The obligatory annoying like hell song: DJ Pope - My Heart My Soul - Cajual (86mins).

After 60mins, the mix picks up significantly, shifts away from traditional chicago house (my opinion) and might suit more people's tastes.

This mix is incredible. I guess it helps that it starts with one of my favorite songs, that I'd forgotten about. Chicago House is the greatest!

I really do like that song with the repetitive lyrics "feel my motherfucking bass in your face" or something.. I think it must be a house-classic because I've heard it before.

A few words from Teemu:

"All of the tracks are from chicago or from chicago artists"

"The point of the mix was to play as diverse a selection of chicago house as possible"

"Some people are going to like the beginning and some people the end but i feel it was a pretty decent attempt at playing a set of different styles of chicago house from whiney soulful jesus house to sexually explicit dance mania stuff"

"i was going back to my roots", he concludes :)

I love the two tracks from near the beginning (11-23mins):
Johnny Fiasco - Subminimal - Cajual
Braxton Holmes - People Everyday - Cajual

the vocal on the first one and the keyboard solo jam on the second and the backing groove are just really chilled.

I really love house, and especially a lot of the stuff I've been hearing from local DJs over the past couple of years, but I don't like this kind of house. I was excited to get this mix on my ipod, you all made it sound good, but I was let down. Maybe this is just a mix of older stuff, but I find this kind of house music really cheesy. The cheese factor keeps me from enjoying nearly all of these tunes. The end gets a teeny bit better, but over all, very meh.

Just for my own enlightenment, could you be more specific about what you find cheesy about some of those songs viddy?

it's house music, it's supposed to be cheesy :D

(in a good way. Or, as mr Rick Smith once said: "there's good cheese, and there's bad cheese!")

It is indeed, but probably the best choice I heard. I wouldn't play this every day (as I'm more into techno/electro), but it's a very good mix.

ps : thanks Stimpee for the mac plugin, .ogg files are ok EXCEPT itunes is only playing them on my G4 loudspeakers (which are shite) & is not playing it on remote loudspeakers via an airport wireless connexion (like I mostly use itunes)

It is the very sonic palate that this type of house uses. I think maybe because it's from much older equipment. The kicks, hats, snares and synths all sound very 80s to me. The r&b style singing men and women really puts the cheeze factor over the edge. It's not that I dislike singing over house tracks, just this kind. The singing along with the sonic palate used, sounds corny to me. There are a few tracks in the mix that don't sound like this so much, but most do.
