Hey all...
There are only a few UW songs i have yet to hear in their entirety (some of the Hump and Skyscraper mixes, etc).
But one i've been actively searching for is
01. PEARL'S GIRL (CARP DREAMS…KOI) (10:07) on the Junior Boy's Own : JBO38 CDS2, United Kingdom.
Can someone tell me, is it worth it? Like, is this dramatically different from Pearls Girl (LP version) in the same way that the "Tin There" and "14996" mixes are quite reworked! Or, is it soemthing like an extended version of the original?
Thanks!
Holden

its a totally different mix, that has very few elements
from the original album version..
i think its great, its mostly instrumental and only
has a few samples in it.....
i think its worth hunting down, theres always
copies of the cd and vinyl on ebay if you're
looking for it...most of the time its the uk
version, but there are german and and a US
promo for it..

I picked up the German version for next to nothing on eBay. I'll second that Carp Dreams... Koi is a really good mix. It's got that great melancholy/evocative feel but is also a banging dance track, a combination that only Underworld can pull off.

Welcome to the forums, moire.
As for Koi, its a pumped up version with a bleepy loop over the top and then a bit of crazycrazycrazy in the middle and then some more squelches later on underneath long synthy sounds. that about sums it up.
I dont like it because of the bleepy annoying loop.

Yeah, i agree...i commented to Negative 1 about the track recently. it sounds like the synth has the hiccups! There are a few samples and breakbeats from the album version, as well as the outtro pads, but otherwise, this version is probably my least favorite of the alternate Pearls Girls. Tin There and 14996 are so much more banging!

i don't think it is ever "safe" to provide links to commercially released uw material on dirty, regardless of whether it's out of print or not.

well... let's not get into that argument AGAIN
I'm sure we know where some people stand on that one (if it's out of print - then UW don't make any money off it's sale so then it should be ok to share)

It wasn't meant to be an argument, I'm simply stating the rules of the forum.
Whether people agree with those rules is another thing altogether.

This is a fallacious argument I see so often, it makes me angry. Just because something is Out of Print, doesn't mean it's OK to share freely. The copyright holder still holds exclusive rights to control distribution and replication of his copyrighted works, including the right to NOT have it distributed. Until a copyright expires (in the U.S., that's 70 years after the death of the author) and the work passes into the public domain, you do NOT have the right to do whatever you want to that work, regardless of its current published status.

when i first heard this track,
i didn't really think too much of it..
in fact i was wondering what it had
to do with 'pearls girl'..
but at the time, underworld were much
more adventureous with their remixes,
and a lot more creative with their releases..
in time, i grew to really like it, and although
it only shares a basic resemblance to the
album track, i can still see where they were
going with it....
in listening to their recent output of remixes
and tracks, i'm glad to see they are back
to this 'style' of experimenting more with
sounds, and maybe a more 'electro' synth
sound with the 'blips' and 'bleeps' as described..
