View Full Version : Born Slippy, but which one?

Okay all...maybe the polls are flying fast and frequently these days, but i haven't seen this one before, and seeing as how Born Slippy is the best known track, it's worth wondering:
Which version is tops?
I like "another dodgy trance mix version" :P
I miss the option for Born Slippy NUXX played live in this poll,
as I don't really like the album version very much.
Anyway, I heard the original BS live in Luxemburg last year, and was completely blown away! So I vote for the original.
But the BS NUXX on Everything Everything is also sooo damn awesome...

My ideal NUXX live version would be the Lowlands 2000 intro (those fast pounding drums) and then a recent live version with of .NUXX into NUXX 2003. Love it when the 2003 piano kicks in.

The deep pan mix is on the single.
Best version of BS.

Original is by far the best, then Telematic. NUXX is way back in the distance.
You should all take a listen to the Darren Price Remix (not Mix) though as its completely different. Its not NUXX, its some Darren Price tune masquerading as NUXX and its a marvellous chunk of driving melodic techno.
holden: you really should have put all the officaial mixes here if you were gonna do it properly :)

I've heard it live a lot, but I want to hear the studio.
I don't mean NUXX...

Yeah, the version of "Born Slippy NUXX" that's on Everything, Everything should be on here, as it is an official release in a sense. I always thought that was the best one, although the original version of "Born Slippy" is a close second.
i have to vote for telematic, although for me the whole single is totally awsome :D
that's where you can find the original mix, it's know as the lawnmower or the tractor single, look for it at ebay, it's there often enough.

born slippy .NUXX (darren price remix) [8:09]

born slippy .TELEMATIC [9:39]

Born Slippy beats Nuxx into a cocked hat.
And hearing it live in Luxemburg was close to one of the most beautiful music moments of my life. :)
I feel very sorry that i didn't register here before the Luxemburg gig as, apparently, i could have met some of you there... next time, then...
Born Slippy was amazing there, and, for me, is by far the best version.

thats a tough choice,
it was hard to choose from
the full 11:37 version and
the original one...however
i liked the darren price mix
also...oh well had to choose
the full version as that was
one of the first songs i heard
from them..
although i do really like the
various live versions also...

hey - you forgot to list the original 9minute-ish version that's on the original single
...and I always thought that one of the Darren Price mixes - I forget which one (not sure if it was the "Mix" or "Remix", was really just a mislabeled mix of Banstyle, you know? I mean - it sounds closer to that track, and all the vocals are from banstyle too...
(edit)
and I always took Deep Pan as really a track in its own right... but was labeled as a remix b/c at the time, it probably was seen to be more eye-catching to have 'remixes' and not bsides

Yeah, maybe i shouldv'e put Pricey's mixes separately, though i'd just listened to the Born Slippy single before doing this, and i can't say they're all that different from NUXX. And then, there are all those other remixers out there...gotta draw the line somewhere. We don't need polls with 25 options now, do we we?;)
i'm surprised at how many folks are digging the original more than NUXX. That's fine...maybe the true fans are sick and tired of NUXX. i was, too, until i heard the whole thing again (none of these weak radio or soundtrack edits. Damn thing's 11:37 and 6-7 minutes is just poundingly good!)

The original mix was chosen as the single by Underworld at the time because it was the best track and in my opinion (and it seems other people's too) that it still is the best version.

I like the original in a "Pearl's Girl" sort of way. But it's got nothing in common with NUXX. They're just very different songs... I was surprised when I heard the original and found that it was something completely different. And since it's the NUXX-version that's become "Born Slippy" to me, I have to vote for that.
The original is a good song, but ironically, it's not "Born Sliippy"... They should rename it ;)

NUXX isnt the only Born Slippy. What you're saying is that because of your ignorance, you have to vote for the most popular (well, outside of this poll) version.

What you're saying is that because of your ignorance, you have to vote for the most popular (well, outside of this poll) version.I wouldn't call it ignorance... Sure, I got into Underworld a little too late to allow the original "Born Slippy" to be the first for me. But the fact that I've looked for, found and appreciated the original should count for something.
Still, when people say "Born Slippy", it's the NUXX-version I start thinking of. I can't help it, I can't change it, and when you ask me to vote for my favourite version of "Born Slippy", then NUXX is the one.

Woops! i don't have the original record...my Born Slippies are scattered among sources: NUXX, Deep Pan, Edit and Darren Price mixes on the EP,
Telematic from some crappy Dub collection, original in some dj compilations, etc. i shoulda consulted the discog! But like i said, there's so many remixes out there. And remember that the 1992-2002 anthology version is a different length than the Trainspotting mix or the extended version. Anyway, since the EP didn't say anything about "extended mix" on the 11:37 version, i assumed it was the whole deal and others are edited down.
But like it was said above, who cares? They're all great tracks! Just wondered if there were strong feelings one way or another! i love listening to the non-Nuxx versions every now and again to remember how UW used to make drastically different versions of the "same" song (a la Pearls Girl, Dirty Epic and Dark and Long).

Yeah, that's a lot of remixes. But i think it's telling that despite everyone and their mum trying their hand at reworking a classic, no one here is voting for these "other peoples remixes". I mean, UW redid it in 2003 probably under some coaxing from management to have a promo single to go with the anthology and also to keep it semi-fresh when played live for the 5,000th time. Maybe it's time to rediscover the alternate versions?!
off-topic but: how about UW re-release "Rez" or "Cowgirl" as a substantially redone version? "Rez" could benefit from a 2006 overhaul?

i heard NUXX first, and i thought it was awful and annoying. then i heard the original, and i thought, "wow, this is way better. why did that crappy remix become a hit?"
i still think the lyrics might be "nigger nigger white thing" cos mabye they were trying to come up with some way to insult white people, but they couldn't. and if you're drunk, you can't control your actions and you see everyone else as being wrong, so nigger nigger white thing makes more sense to me than mega mega white thing. maybe they just said that it was mega so that people wouldn't think they were being racist. which even if my theory is right, they're not, they're just showing how if you're a drunk you hate the world.

Whatever YOU may think, you are totally, utterly wrong, extraordinarily offensive and, frankly, the first person I have ever heard even allude to this potential interpretation. It may be normal for YOU to use offensive language like this when you are drunk, but that is your problem.

Well, I have to relate that I have had TWO friends that have separately thought that the lyrics were "nigger nigger white boy." When they sang their incorrect lyrics along with the song while I was playing it, I had to correct them, while incredulously laughing at their mistake.
So, while I have always heard it correctly as "mega mega white thing," apparently it is not uncommon to hear something else.

I often get the feeling that some people are fishing for a response from UW via the daily updates.
i'm trying to do that with the mellotron thread.
but seriously, though, don't get all riled up. it just makes sense to me, that when you're drunk and your friends are trying to tell you to stop, you might say something like 'shut up you crazy nigger' or 'i'm gonna beat the shit outta you, mick', and maybe what the song is saying is that drunkenness brings out the bad in us, and brings out hatred. y'all think i'm trying to be racist, but i'm really not. it's just an interpretation.
but what i can't figure out is why black people can call white people honky, and white people that know each other can call each other honky, and black people that know each other can call each other niggers, but even if your best friend is black, and you're white, and you say 'word up nigger', then it's politically incorrect. my opinion is, that race doesn't really matter. what happened with racism and all the terrible things, is mostly in the past. to me, race is just another thing like gender, religion, etc. ie: how come you can call a girl ho when you're teasing her? we should either have it all one way or all another. i'd be fine if it was politically incorrect to call anyone ANY names, to prevent someone from getting their feelings hurt. but on the same token, i think that it's actually more racist against blacks to say that you can't tease your best friend, whilest you can tease your best friend that's chinese, or turkish, or polish, etc.

Maybe it is a question of education and upbringing. My son doesn't even know what those words mean and it would never occur to him to refer to someone's race as a way of insulting him. This is because he has been brought up to transcend and ultimately respect difference, cultural, racial or otherwise. I believe Rick and Karl share those values too. Which is why I believe that, whatever you THINK you might hear, (or perhaps, even, WANT to hear in order to justify your skewed view of the things "people" might say when drunk), you are totally wrong. And yes, I still think you are being offensive. What you and your best friend say to one another is one thing. What you post on a public internet forum is quite another.
