Hi,

I am a DJ / Producer of Hard Dance and I would like to do a 2006 remix of 'Born slippy'.

My question is how do I get hold of the boys to get permission / samples / agree royalties etc.

My email is rich@4fitmedia.com

HI Rich

welcome to dirty,

i don't want to put a downer on you or your remix project, but to be honest, i really don't think that any new remixes of Born Slippy are required... i know its not for me to say this, and as a big collector and fan, i'll end up buying it, if it came out, but do you know how many official versions of BS have come out, let alone the number of dodgy and usaually crap bootleg remixes, which have been done in every genre going... really we don't need another one...

if you wanna remix something in a hard house style, i really think fans would go for anything else, BUT bloody Born Slippy...its not their only track...and by no means their best, there are plenty of tracks that could get a decent hard house mix on them...

but if Born Slippy is your choice then fair enough, but its got to be bloody good remix to rate above all the others that are already out there...

Hi,

Thanks for that, I just think I could do a decent mix, as it is a classic track I believe that if I could make a full on energy track with the drop from BS that there would be hands in the air wherever it was played!

Do you recommend an UW track that could do with a Hard Dance injection?

P.S. There are clips of my current work at http://www.4fitmedia.com on the home page.

well, there are relatively hard instrumental tracks, like Kittens & Rowla - which are never touched, but then not so well known either, then there's anything from Two Months Off to Moaner, to Pearls Girl...King Of Snake...

there's probably more, i'll let the rest of the 'public' here decide ;)

i was going to say "please don't do another remix of born slippy", but i remembered about warb's remix and i think there's life in the old dog left.

so give it a shot.

i can't help you with management and sample clearing though. best bet is to press it as a bootleg or something. not that i'm recommending that. of course.

Born Slippy (original) or maybe Luetin...
Twist would benefit from a remix, too:)

you can just play the original track and you'll get those hands in the air, i guarantee you.

if "hard dance" is anything like hardhouse, then I'd strongly recommend not remixing any UW track, sorry ;)

I agree, on both counts!

Ah, Twist...remember when "Twist" was supposed to be released as a single with a live version and maybe a remix? Certain dodgy import sites are still "selling" the Japanese version of this imaginary item.

i am not a hard dance fan, but i imagine the global structure of Rowla could be nice with some hardstyle influences.

welcome to the board!

I'd say remix whatever you feel like, but BS has been done many, many times... I covered it just for the sake of the fact that I wanted to - but it's a cover and so it's different from the original.

As to the boys hearing it and giving you permission; I'm in that boat right now, as my cover has been sent to the boys but I'm not sure they'll have a chance to listen to it, they're busy and all. I hope that they do because I would like to show the rest of the world the remix, but I don't want to release it without their permission as, well, I have too much respect for them.

I got ahold of different contacts by simply dropping emails wherever I could, and I got ahold of Mike Gillespie, who's been kind enough to stay in contact with me.

Good luck... and happy music making.

Hi mate,

Thanks for that.

My version is more like a cover althought I would like their vocal in it! I have recreated the strings and piano ready for the track and I does sound good.

What style was your cover? Did you have vocals?

I like you would rather release it with permission, although the genre that I am creating for does not sell that great, I just think it would be a refreshing change for a classic like BS to pound through the speakers at nights like Frantic & Wildchild!

hey Rich,

my cover is from the ground up a rebuild, I did the vocal. It was part of a school final project that I had to do, and I really like how it came out, worked my butt off on it.

I'm sure no matter the genre, you could find people to listen to it. I mean, there's people that listen to my stuff, and it does not always fall into a genre :P .... good luck! oh, and yeah, banstyle would be a tight remix, too.
