This is the album of the year - no contest. Nothing will come out post Feb that will top it.
There's my money on the table. :)
Inventive, ecletic hip-hop/dance hybrid masquerading as sleezy, low-budge Baltimore sex-fueled rap album. Don't let the rhymes fool you - this fucking rules.
Might be a little difficult to find right now so tune into Dirtyradio - I've put four or five tracks in the queue.
The new music of 2006 is already better than the entirety of the output of 2005 - this is making my week.

i have had a few listens so far and have not been too thrilled at all. there are some really great songs right in the middle of the albumn but that is all i have gotten so far. i mean it is good, but i think saying that this one albumn is better than everything from last year is a bit of a stretch. i'll have some more listens though cause i might get into it a bit more, definatly not too accessable, gotta get into their style a bit for most songs

Definitely not for everyone.
Perhaps put a better way... this is the album that the Detroit Grand Poobahs wanted desperately to make.

'Far Left' is awesome.
The production value of this album is head & shoulders above other B-More Club music I heard last year. I had a big smile listening to Spank Rock’s nods to the past.
The New Edition shout to “Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky & Mike” on ‘Rick Rubin’
‘Coke And Wet’ drew immediate comparisons for me of early Eazy E.
‘Screwville USA’, a tribute to Houston’s DJ Screw and a terrific way to close out the album.
Keep an eye on Amanda Blank in 2006. She steals the track ‘Bump’ “I ride like Kelly Bundy yo, I keep that sh*t nasty”
‘Sweet Talk’ & ‘Top Billin’ From Far Left’ are great lo-fi bass, club tracks.
I can’t recall an instance of a recent hip hop release with this much originality. Anyone who struggled with the ‘Galvanize?!’ ‘hip hop’ thread on this board needs to hear this album.
I’d wager that no hip hop release in 2006 will top ‘YoYoYoYoYo’

i am definatly getting into this a bit more as i listen to it up, but it is still a little hit and miss on a few songs... most of the songs crip talks about are my favs too: BUMP is seriously the best song ever made in hip hop! it is fucking amazing. so sexy and so simple... a fucking drum kit and a synth and two wickid mc's...
anyhow. definatly a grower for some at least

i saw a show with spank rock up in montreal last summer and it was incredible. bonobo and blockhead were also there. a really fun night. highly suggest checking it out if they play near you.
Hey Scott, just heard "What It Look Like" by Spank Rock on Dirty Radio. Got me interested.
Been playing this out for the last 2 weeks, and I love it like a child.
Crip is right about Blank - she fucking destroys 'Bump'.
I would say this record is on par with Galvanize, and may even be better than it (if that is possible).

these guys run in the same circles as the Hollertronix guys (Diplo and Low Budget). they opened for MIA on her last US tour. i like the majority of the album, but they put on a great show. also check out the Bmore Gutter Music mix by Aaron Lacrate and Low Budget. there's an EP with tracks from the mix, and 3 of them have Amanda Blank on them.
Amanda Blank is the SHIT.
check out the tracks Blow, Get Um Girl, and Grit City and you will know.
Cheers for the rec, Blow is fucking hot.

Ok I've listened to this a few times now, and I think I stand by my initial reaction to it: It sucks. It just sounds like a big chaotic mess, and really does nothing at all for me. Overly complex, especially when compared to other Balitmore Club Tracks kind of stuff (incidentally, it took me a few listens to hear where the Baltimore comparisons came in). I don't like it at all :( Sorry guys.

What I do like, however: 'Lost Summer' by Baeks. I've had this one song on repeat for 45 minutes

yeah I don't get it either. mostly because I just don't particularly enjoy the vocals/rapping. the production is creative, but does nothing in contrast to the style of rapping for me, it just doesn't seem to gel into a good sound. I have the same complaint about the streets too, so say whatever about my opinion.

I'll agree with this. No matter how awesome any music is, if you don't like the vocals, it's just not going to work.

i considered it something i just wasn't accustomed to. after a time, and EVERYBODY else telling me the same thing (lol we should have an instrumentl) i not only got used to it, but it became damn essential to it, enhancing, even. trying to divorce the lyrics from the music, especially here, just seems wildly avoidant and sanitized. you can either take the whole bag or dont, but it becomes custom-made consumption when you try to seperate the two because it gets a little abrasive.
this is still going in my top 5. it's a mess, but a good one, a varied one, and on the attack.

Who said anything about divorcing the lyrics from the music? its my refusal to do so that makes this a diffucult listen sometimes. I'm not asking for Pavaroti, something that carries the mood and rhythm of the production in a voice that isn't itself abrasive is all I'm asking for. Understanding what I guess to be a clear attempt at recalling the styles of bygone chapters of hip hop helps me get into it a bit better.
Anyway Bump and IMC, and screwville, USA are very notable exceptions. They fuggin work.
