Could we chart the branches and connections of 100 years of music using the London Underground map? Dorian Lynskey explains how a box of coloured crayons and lot of swearing helped. And yes, Underworld made it in...

not quite sure what the point is, but its pretty interesting...in an arty way
kinda like the fact that underworld are out 'towards' romford way...although they should have been at tottenham court road really...

Underworld are actually Plaistow station in the East End inbetween West Ham and Upton Park so I assume thats very near the football ground. Those two are represented by Brian Eno and Depeche Mode which is wise as they are working with one and have remixed the other. What will fuel the fire from one thread we had recently, the prog-rock thread is that they are also on the Rock/District line just down from King Crimson, Pink Floyd and Genesis. However, they are further up, and the Rock/District line stations/bands closer to Underworld are in fact the Krautrock bands Neu, Can and Tangerine Dream (which was in fact my argument! I'm glad someone agrees...)
Whats interesting to see is that Orbital are at the other end of the Electronic/Hammersmith line in between Derrick May and The Aphex Twin.
you can check the real map here (http://www.oxfordtube.com/assets/london/underground_map.jpg).
EDIT: For the people who don't know where Romford is, its not on the underground but you can see it on the hybrid overground/underground (wombling-free) map here (http://www.womble.org.uk/pics/London%20Underground.jpg) at womble.org. Its near Emerson Park, ironically. Just up the road from where they are represented on the map. It seems you can buy this poster for a ridiculous price of £7.95 at the LU shop (http://www.ltmuseumshop.co.uk/product.asp?prod_id=460).

have you guys read the stuff in the talkbacks? some people are miserable bastards. Why did you do this? What is the point? Wouldn't you have been better off doing something else? Sometimes you media people really worry me.
Yes! I was going to say exactly the same thing. The most stereotypically self-indulgent Guardian wank I can think of, bordering on self parody. Smug, London obsessed (and I live in London) nonsense. It's got nothing to do with anything! There's people like, dying and stuff. And where are the Arctic Monkeys, anyway...?
Isn't setting yourself a pointless task and then writing about it a bit, er, pointless?
Yes I am jealous of this person's frivolous occupation and enormous salary but I'd rather not have it rammed down my throat in technicolor and passed off as something with even the slightest entertainment or reference value. Gloom juice. the last one is quite funny, cos journalists really dont earn much at all
