Lame - I'd pony up for a box set aphex, if you'd let me.

Yeah, I posted about this in the "first records of the year" thread. I don't know, what I'd really like is a single-disc collection of non-album tracks and B-sides, from "Analogue Bubblebath" to "Windowlicker." But hey, if you don't like the way this release is put together, give him a few months and I'm sure he'll re-issue it in yet another form after everyone buys a copy of this one!

I've totally lost interest in anything Aphex.

He's a "has been" at this point.

i don't know about "has-been"

he's just become more and more insular and uninvolved.
like he doles out crap and lets everyone around him give a shit enough to give it the 180 treatment/vinyl binder/press/collectability/hubbub.

but i totally think he can bring a proper, mind-blowing record again if he stopped pretending like it didn't matter.

Well, maybe the reason he keeps pretending like it doesn't matter is because he can't deliver a mind-blowing record anymore. I mean, it looks like there's nowhere else for him to go. My favourite album of his is Selected Ambient Works 85-92, and I don't care for the later ones so much, but even so, he was changing his style on them and trying new sounds. Selected Ambient Works 85-92, Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2, and Hangable Auto Bulb are all very different. But after he switched to that spastic RDJ Album drum style, it seemed like he couldn't think of anything new to do with himself, and just kept recycling the same ideas over and over.

I like the way everyone treats it in a style-over-substance manner. Why does he have to "go" somewhere? Can't he just make really good tracks in styles he's done before? Actually, Analord pretty much showed he can do that.

every single one of those releases, with the exception of analord 10, have been tremendously average and a lot of times quite boring. i'm glad it'll be presented in one cd so i dont wade through 3 of them looking for nuggets here and there.

and i'm going to keep belittling your opinion until you send my cd out ;)

Can't he just make really good tracks in styles he's done before? Absolutely, which is why I like tracks like "Nannou" and "Flim" from the late part of his career. Some of the tracks on Analord are pretty decent too. But the problem with recycling your old ideas is that, if you can't think of any way to put a new spin on them, eventually you just squeeze them dry and you don't say anything meaningful anymore. For instance, I think that most people would agree that The Division Bell isn't as good as Meddle.

Never heard the analord stuff.. were all those releases all him or was it other people to? Like, everyone always talks about analord 10 which is I assume the 10th in the series?

I love how he titles tracks the names of viruses so people dont download them. W32.Aphex@mm is particularly clever.

it's all by him. i can't say it's all excellent stuff tho....in fact, only three or four tracks grabbed my attention.
