other things to note….

This chart is based purely upon the scoring system 15 points for the most popular track in one list, down to 1 point for the tenth most popular track. It’s the simplest way to determine the most successfully voted for track…however, if we base the chart upon share of the voters votes rather than points, then the top 10 would read thus (actual position in Brackets):

1. Juanita (1)
2. Dirty Epic (2)
3. Dark Train (8)
4. Luetin (7)
5. Banstyle / Sappy’s Curry (3)
6. Pearl’s Girl (6)
7. Jumbo (4)
8. Cowgirl (5)
9. Born Slippy (Nuxx) (10)
10. Cups (9)

What this basically shows us, is that despite the top two being universally popular, and in fact the entire top ten remaining the same tracks, only Juanita and Dirty Epic are popular in terms of position in peoples list and in terms of being voted for most.

More people actually voted for Dark Train than Jumbo, but the votes for Jumbo, which made it finish fourth, were in much higher scoring positions than those for Dark Train, where the quantity of voters voting was higher, but sadly for Dark train the votes were in lower scoring positions.

In terms of Album splits, the breakdown of the votes were as follows:

NON LP Tracks account for 27.12% of the total points (31.78% of voters votes)
STITI Tracks account for 25.31% (20.05%)
DUBNO Tracks account for 18.85% (18.09%)
Beaucoup Fish Tracks account for 17.78% (17.36%)
AHDO Tracks Account for 10.42% (11.98%)

Of the non LP tracks several are NEW, and of the total number of all tracks, 11 are new (13.25%). I’d expect to see more new tracks and new entries by the time the next poll comes around, seeing as Rick and Karl are planning on releasing 180+ tracks this year!!!!

What are your 5 Least Popular Tracks?

Well this vote was a bit more conclusive than the MOST popular poll, with one track standing head and shoulders over the rest as most disliked UW track.

There were less tracks voted for in this list, with 59 contenders, see below for details:

Rather than deeply dissect the results I’ll just list them as rated, LEAST popular first:

It is very interesting to see that some tracks have not been voted for, like Juanita & Banstyle, whereas some of the most popular tracks at the top of the MOST liked chart are also bug bears for others. It generally appears that the most disliked tracks are what I’d call album fillers, with little action or punch, but that’s not to say people don’t also like them, just different people like different things and as such dislike different things…

The most highly placed least liked ‘single’ is Beaucoup Fish’s Bruce Lee, followed by A Hundred Day Off’s Dinosaur Adventure 3D…however, popular tracks like Born Slippy, Moaner, Jumbo and Push Upstairs also have some detractors…and have been voted for here….

ALBUMS – Question – Rank the Four Studio albums 1-4:

Based upon your favourite tracks list, STITI is the most popular album, but is Second Toughest second best in the album vote outright? Well no, it is again the winner, but its lead is being eroded by Dubnobass

1st Second Toughest in the Infants – 127 Points
2nd Dubnobasswithmyheadman – 123 Points
3rd Beaucoup Fish – 99 Points
4th A Hundred Days Off – 62 Points

Maybe this year we will see a new album emerge from Lemonworld, and maybe it will challenge or split the votes a bit, and maybe this chart might look slightly different next year…but overall the albums are universally liked, well except for AHDO which is more often than not the least popular of the four, in everyone’s list.

GIGS – How Many Gigs have you been to & What Year was your first gig?

Well it appears from this question one thing has been learnt, a lot of fans have yet seen Underworld Live - and what I can conclude from this, is that Underworld need to get out more…

75% of Voters in the poll have attended a gig at least once, but 75% of those have attended just 1-5 gigs, mostly just once. Some have attended 15+ gigs - well Stimpee mainly ;)

Of the gig attendees, the average year of attendance is 2000, so many new gig attendees have seen Underworld only recently and only once. I’m not complaining personally having seen the guys live several times, but it does appear that with a quarter of fns not even having seen the band the need to get out is always high….i know the logistics of it are difficult, but UW on the road would perhaps be a requirement in the future…

FAV TRACK NAME – What is your Favourite Track By Name Alone…?

We had a variety of names suggested here, but mmm…Skyscraper I Love You, Rez, Dirty Epic & Pearls Girl were considered most popular. What can be learnt is that fans are unique as are Underworld track names…see competition post for details of the Fans own suggested track names…

FAV LYRIC – What is your Favourite Underworld Lyric?

Like the individual track names, everyone has different interpretations of their favourite song lyrics and although some songs came up more frequently than others, it was with different lines from the same song…

Dirty Epic, Juanita and Spoonman, repeatedly came up as tracks with our favourite lyrics in them, because they are so unique or memorable, I suppose.

FAV VIDEO – What is your favourite video?

What surprised me most about this question is that almost 20% of people have not even seen any Underworld videos…

Considering that they are part of Underworld’s whole multimeadia art collective front, that, I think, is shocking. Underworld’s videos should be seen by every fan…

Of those video’s voted for, the most popular four were: Push Upstairs, Born Slippy (variations), Two Months Off and Dinosaur Adventure 3D

Perhaps the last two were voted for because they are the most recent two made, perhaps Born Slippy because it’s the most recognised and played on Music TV stations, and Push Upstairs because it was pretty clever, and I voted for it ;) Either way all are good clever videos.

FAV UW REMIX – What is your Favourite Remix BY Underworld?

What I discovered from this vote was that either people are pretty specific in what they actually like or know little of what Underworld have remixed. Considering the last UW remix was a few years ago, perhaps memories are flagging.

Anyhow based upon the votes, these were the most popular remixes at the current time:

Depeche Mode – Barrel of Gun Hard Mix – 9.7%
Depeche Mode – Barrel of a Gun Soft Mix - 12.2%
Don’t Know – 7.32%
Bjork - Human Behaviour – 9.7%
Orbital Lush 3.3 – 19.51%
Leftfield – Song Of Life - 4.88%
Drum Club – Sound System – 4.88%

The spread of mixes voted for was very small, and as such I think Underworld’s remixes are not that popular or heard or…as they perhaps should be.

Part Three To follow...
