How good/bad are the USB-to-midi connectors? It seems too good to be true.

Never tried a USB MIDI interface myself, I have 2 MIDI INs and OUTs on my PCMCIA soundcard. However, I think for just sending and receiving MIDI data, the USB port is more than adequate.

MIDI is such an old protocol that there cant be THAT much data sent down it. Certainly not enough to overpower a USB socket. Not even USB 1.1. USB 2.0 would be overkill. I don't see how you can be so concerned :)
Yeah, seriously, I've never encountered the slightest problem. Not a concern. A lot of audio interfaces are coming with a MIDI out, so consider your setup, and if you don't have much gear, you might be able to daisy-chain your MIDI devices and use one interface for both.

An answer of sorts. (http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/Oct04/articles/qa1004-7.htm)
I'm going to subscribe to Sound on Sound. I really like their articles and reviews.

Because usb-to-midi cables are much cheaper then the alternative, hence the concern. :)
