With all of the new material that has been coming out of the Underground camp, any chance we will see them at Coachella 2006?

your best-bet for finding out is to check in here 3 times an hour like the rest of us. the sense of disappointment soon wears off when you find new releases and stuff like that...

Doubtful, as they said they will be calming down their touring over the next year to work on the new album with Gabriel.

unless, of course, there's a guaranteed large japanese contingent going, in which case... ...or maybe if coachella can be moved to the other side of the pacific...

But then there's always Karl's cryptic messages on the UW live site.
Friday's says: "... late night interview hook-up with america spreadin the news & future clues reliving giant stadium in the rain."
Sounds to me like a trip across the pond is envisioned at some stage soon.
And before anyone asks... NO, I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING! I'm just putting two and two together same as I always do. Sometimes it adds up to 5, but more often than not I manage 4. ;)

potatobroth - They've played lots of gigs since that show. I know, none of them were in nyc, but there's this wonderful machine out there called the airplane. It's amazing! You get on it, sit in a seat, wait a while, then when you get up, you're someplace else! Isn't that incredible? And there are lots and lots of them out there, and they can take you virtually anywhere in the world. If you wanted, one could even take you to where Underworld is playing.

They aint played Newcastle since 1999, so count yourself lucky;)
If your totally desperate to see them, then travel like i did to see them in Scotland and all the way down the botoom of England! Yes, i understand that the size difference between the US and UK is a little bit different, but its a fucking great laugh with family/friends travelling to see someone.

haha too true.
ive seen underworld 8 times, NYC accounting for only 3 of them. and while its a nice idea to pick up and go to EU for a show, its not been feasible for me to do being a new homeowner. i know you have flown to quite a few shows and i think that is awesome! but my comment wasnt about Underworld playing shows, it was about Underworld playing shows in the US. I seriously doubt that myself and 10 of my friends could all jump on a plane to go see a 3 hour show at the cost of $500+ a person. but myself and 10 of my friends would easily jump in a car(s) and drive 8+ hours to see a 3hr show at the cost of $70 a person (the latter of which i have done twice now.)
furthermore, my original comment wasn't an attempt to be sarcastic. it was an attempt to be honest. Underworld interviews revealed that they are putting touring on hold, that an album wont be out until early 2007 so im just assuming a tour would follow that. im now just realizing that i put 2008 in my original post though :P meant 2007. :[
also, the more i think of it, was 2002 really their last NY show? part of me thinks there was a more recent one than that, but i cant remember it.
best memory from all this: standing in the pouring rain at a failed festival and having underworld's vibe cause a positive chain reaction through all that braved the elements.

bunch of blogs and the coachella message boards are listing confirmed bands, like they do every year. this year they've confirmed Depeche Mode, Wolf Parade, and a couple other no-names, but Underworld keeps getting mentioned as confirmed.
doesn't seem like much of a stretch that they could be there. they've played it twice before so they obviously like it. they don't have to tour to do it. Basement Jaxx played it, and that was their only US date for the year. plus didn't Karl recently say that touring would be scaled back to unique places/venues? certainly plausible...

There was the Field Day Festival, which was at the Meadowlands in June 2003 in the rain (fun), but most people I know passed on it.

I can only grow 5's on my back. For some reason I can't get the big notes to grow properly. So it's really not that big of a deal.

yep that was probably what i was thinking of. i was there. it was bitter/sweet. only 6 songs played over just under 45minutes. but the whole experience was super.

Er, from what I can recall, you could probably count the number of times they've played in the North American continent since 2002 on your fingers. I know, I know, "whinging American" and all that. I think if our European friends were in our place, you'd be about ready to die for your Underworld fix too! Here's hoping it might be Coachella...even though it's on the other side of the frickin country I'd still do the 6 hour flight to see it.

yea - but at least we're not like the whining Brits who bitch about having to drive like 2hrs for a show! oooh boo hoo! (but I don't mean exclusively to this thread or UW... I've heard it done many times, with many bands)
I mean - pretty much, unless UW is playing in my town... I would at least have to dish out well over a few hundred dollars

so what's the difference to flying 6h to europe?
and f.y.i.: there are plenty of (american) bands that don't tour europa (or asia, or australia for that matter) that much.

Since this is an Underworld forum, I don't see what that has to do with anything. Regardless of what "other bands" do, I still want to see Underworld, and nothing's going to change that!

Didnt I read here somewhere that r&k were going to do limited touring so they could work more on their project with Brian Eno. I was just sent an email with a new list of Coachella acts which included Roxy MUsic with Brian Eno and Underworld. Theres just to much of a coincedence here. Who but the most hardcore of us would know this connection. They just happened to be put on a rumor list together.
I have seen both Underworld Coachella shows as well as several other US gigs. At the last Coachella show Underworld played r&K really seemed to be enjoying themselves much more than the SF Warfield show or the Wiltern show in LA. They do seem to enjoy the venue and why not if you havnt been its one of the best we have in the states. Really weel organised. I am trying not to get my hopes up too much but Tokyo is soo great sounding I cant say I am not a little excited. Anyways here is the Coachella lineup I just got and it seems a few names have been added as well as respective dates.

Hey potatobroth! My girlfriend and I met you and a few other peeps at Field Day in 2003. We had flown out from Seattle to catch that 45 minute UW show and then turned around and promptly went back! I'm not sure if you remember meeting us but it was damn fine to meet you and your friends!

You're right, Karl's right......
We too have seen the fake flyer and can confirm (I'm afraid) that Underworld are defintitely not confirmed to play Coachella 2006.
Please don't expect many posts from me or responses to specific questions. I did feel I needed to set the record straight here though......
