Ghost in the Shell: Innocence

I just saw this for the first time today.

And then I rewatched about half of it.

And then I just started it from the beginning and watched it over.

I looooooooooooove.


(Can't bring this up, without mentioning one thing about it that irks me. Oshii's version of Section 9 is quite a bit different from the TV show's. There is an element of distrust...the Major and Batou talk about leaving Section 9 in the first film, when they're on the boat. Later, Motoko is worried about Aramaki using the Puppet Master as a negotiating offering.

I don't quite like this version of things. I prefer the TV version, in which they're a close-nit bunch. It's neat watching them function at the high level that they do. Oshii's version, while wonderful, I think misses out in this respect.

With regards to the manga, I think the TV version is closer to the original. It's bizarre having these characters float about, and having these subtley conflicting versions of them.

Anyway, yeah, Oshii's version ---> more noir. Not a bad thing.)

I couldn't quite get into the sequel really. I loved the first film, but the second left me...unsatisified. Maybe it was the surplus of quotations, I don't know. Maybe I could've used a good dub to help me follow it better (I've only seen it with a sub). But yeah, I like the close-knit group from the TV series better.

F-ing boring. I wanted to like this film so bad when i saw it on the theatre, I'd even bought the dvd hoping to watch again and see something I didn't see earlier. The pace is just too slow and it just quotes after quotes from every character with their own philosphy. I like the tv series much more, and the tv series has the best theme song ever.

Just for clarification, the producers of the TV shows have said that they take place after the movies. I think the quotes were somewhere on the Adult swim website.

Sorry, noisegeek, that's just plain wrong.

The producers of the show say they take place in a parallel universe, where the puppet master story didn't take place and Motoko didn't disappear. It wouldn't make any sense for them to take place afterwards, because Motoko was gone at that point.

I have confirmation of this in terms of interviews with the developers of the TV series.
