Great release - thanks again R&K!
Especially APFC - think I'm going to have to get the iTunes release now, for the other 11 minutes of it! Anyone want to go thirds on a iTunes card ($20 each)? :)
Not to sound like a broken record, but only slight complaint is the audio quality - I can definitely hear the MP3 compression at work here on my system. The bass just gets muddled, especially in Vanilla Monkey. Maybe it's supposed to sound that way, but I'd hope not :(
Optional FLAC downloads, please - I'd hapilly pay more!

This is really great stuff - I prefer this as a whole to LBT as a whole. It sounds more like a single cohesive piece of work whereas LBT sounded slightly bitty. Bloody marvellous stuff. :D

Nice and smooth, with a bit of menace. i definitely get a "Banstyle/Sappy's Curry" vibe from "Food a Ready". In fact, a lot of STITI feel, from the guitar to the very deep drums and synth pads. Experimental jams. Lots going on with the lyrics that we'll have to decipher.

12-07-2005, 12:06 PM
I d/l'ed this at work today and got to listen to the whole thing through in my mp3 player. The first track is really, REALLY pretty... reminds me of something off of Spiritualized's "Lazer-Guided Voices" -- and that's a good thing. I couldn't help but feel a bit underwhelmed with some of the other tracks, but that's only my first impression and very rarely do I ever have the same sentiments about a piece of music after I've had time to listen to it multiple times. R&K, with this release really exhibit the fact that they are kings of filling the sonic horizon. This production is so lush and full in spots that it almost seems like it's 3D.
I'll take more listens but for the parts I've been impressed with, very well done boys. :)

Nice catch. I didn't notice that until you mentioned it, but it definitely sounds like the same bit on the peel session.
Listening for the first time now. It is a lot more cohesive than Lovely Broken Thing, and very good overall. I certainly see the comparisons with STITI. I feel like the keyboards that come in around 17 minutes (I guess it's Ancient Phat Farm Coat?) sounds like almost like an acoustic version of To Dream of Love.

Which brings in Back In The Fears at 6:58 not 7:05, brings in Flatz a second earlier and Play Pig 10 seconds earlier where Karl starts to say "Amnesia"(?). On the JAL to Tokyo EP, Food A Ready is 7:22 so you get an extended ending and the Ancient Phat Farm Coat is 8:05 vs 19:43 on the Japanese EP so its more than double the length.
To repeat the instructions I gave in the LBT Split Thread (http://www.dirty.org/forums/showpost.php?p=20243&postcount=8): Open the cue file you just saved above in mp3directcut and then using the Save Split... option with "%N %D - %T" and number starting at 01, it created 01 Underworld - Food A Ready.mp3 etc. Unfortunately it doesnt create ID3v2 tags, only v1.1, but Winamp can copy to v2 and then I can add the same comments that were in the original mp3.
mp3directcut is here: http://www.mpesch3.de/
EDIT: for mp3 tag editing, I recommend The Godfather (http://users.otenet.gr/~jtcliper/tgf/) which is a "postcardware" app. Its great at copying tags around and is also a great file renamer.

from the KH interview on Pitchfork:
"Hyde disclosed that he and Smith have over 180 "segments" already written, so fans of the new Riverrun format can expect bountiful output from the series in the months to come."
i assume a segment is one of the parts, so LBT had 7 parts, P4E had six...so on average i reckon we'll have an average of 7 parts per segment, which i reckon is about 25 more downloads....
so start saving - thats £125...:D

Because i am annoyed by that glitch at the beginning, too, i made a repair file for the first 5 secs:
http://www.savefile.com/files/2098861 (5sec wav, zipped, 800kb)
You convert the mp3 to wav, apply the repair file with some audio editor (Audacity) and then burn it. enjoy:cool:

Thought someone said it was at the beginning of the 'ancient phat farm coat' track. So that's why i couldn't hear it. I do hear the 'click' at the start of the whole mp3 :) I don't mind though. Just close your eyes and believe you are in the vinyl record age and listening to one right now :P

Another reference to an older track...just as "Lonely Bollock" from last year's Peel show ended with what eventually became "Peggy Sussed", the "hah amnesia" lyric from "Play Pig" occurs around 8 minutes into "Lonely Bollock"

I think UW should re-upload the track, glitch repaired;

By 'internet exclusive' I'm assuming you mean 'exclusive to anyone with access to the internet.'
This is how they're releasing music right now. Get over it and just enjoy the tunes.

2 cents coming...
after about 3 times listening this morning i'd say this is a more cohesive medley of tunes that goes down well and sets them up even stronger to doubters. scott was right when he said this was the best stuff since seven years.
but that's out of a whole.
the main advantage LBT has over this one is that PFE doesnt have as many "holy goddamn" moments in it that really make it an "event" so to say. to me anyway. peggy sussed was huge. JAL to tokyo told me there's still aspects of them that i'll always have to get used to, and billy goat excited the visual side of things.
so while the whole bag of PFE gets a top grade for me, i do notice that it doesnt really surpass the first four minutes, which is bliss on ice, btw.
2 cents deposit.
and yes, i just broke my oath to not be so hot on instant gratification, but come on, there wasnt any REAL reason not to get it.
and i just finished everything i had to do about 5 minutes ago.

I just bought it and I'm truly enjoying it; has some sounds that are a kick back to Becoup Fish, I think. very good tunes and I like the way that they are doing this right now; it's actually very smart when it comes to the marketing aspect; you don't necessarily want to release all your new material on a full-on CD, but it'd be nice to make a little money in the meantime, so you release it as a cheap download. The boys are doing a good job of keeping themselves out there, and I thank them for that.

Seems some dirties are of mixed opinion about the Welsh lesson in the earlier bit of APFC... i wasn't crazy about the woman's voice, but liked how the song's melody crept slowly out of her reciting random phrases. Dark and cool.
But the emergence of the new APFC out of "Flatz" is pure bliss, too!
After a month of listening to Lovely Broken Thing (and loving it), i'm really getting into the more-downtempo, guitar and keys of Pizza For Eggs. They're both wonderful in my opinion...can't wait for what direction the River Runs next...:)

I've finally downloaded this and Lovely Broken Thing last night.
Both are great. To be honest though, I think I like Lovely Broken Thing better because it has more of an wierd late 80's early 90's industrial/experimental sound to it. The first song on it sounded like a modern version of some classic Skinny Puppy. Was that Ogre on guest vocals?;)
Pizza For Eggs is nice mellow jammy Underworld, like the old EP's. Very Underworld sounding sounds. I do like the fact that this one has a ton more pictures though.

y'know, much as i'd like RiverRun releases to be fairly frequent, being realistic about it, they still probably take a lot of effort to assemble, and the boys are very busy with various projects. All the interviews and press keep mentioning the 150+ pieces of new material, but there's no guarantee we'll hear/get it all.

well, yes, as a batch the 25 minute plus tracks won't be avaialble other than the download, but some of the individual parts will at least be available on 12" (and possibly CD) and / or make up part of some kind of eps, but LBT & P4E won't be released as hard copies per se....

Seems like this is an on-going point of disagreement on these forums...;)
But, I agree with KOS, I wouldn't count on this music showing up anywhere else that is commercially available....maybe some 12" vinyl, but I would imagine most of those will be for DJ/club use as a means to promote the download...

Hi, and welcome.
Ancient Phat Farm Coat is available on the Pizza For Eggs ep which can be downloaded from here (http://www.underworldlive.com/index/shop.html) for only £5 sterling (which would be about $8 US I think.)
The whole ep is well worth the money.
Just so as you know for the future, though, here at dirty.org members do not provide free downloads to commercially released material.
