The first ‘Barrel Of A Gun’ 12-inch (12BONG25) comes in a gatefold sleeve and includes a large six-panel poster. The rest are single sleeve and don’t have posters. As with previous boxes, this set includes a download code

The audio is “mastered from the original tapes” and the vinyl sleeves feature the original single artwork.

I read a book about DM called Stripped and its interesting that Hard Mix was not even welcomed by DM members themselves. In the book its written that one DM member said "Different tempo, different key, different song". Thats what I remember from the book about this GREAT Hard Mix

I really dislike the Hard mix, myself; and I’m not really a big DM fan. However, the Soft mix is one of my very favorite underworld recordings. I can’t get enough of it.

I was shocked when they included the Hard Mix, instead of the Soft Mix in the remix compilation that came out in the early 00's. The Soft Mix is just so exponentially better.

When Depeche Mode received the Hard Mix, Martin Gore called Underworld and asked if they at least could add some of the vocals.'Just so it has some relevance, because there's not one sound of the original version on there'

The instrumental version was never released on a retail version, only on promo 12"s. I guess that's the version they sent to Depeche Mode initially

Yes, you are spot on. That might be very much true, according to the history and facts you have right. Good job making sense of it. Sound very much plausible after reading that book I mentioned earlier. This can be very much true.

Listening to both mixes again, I wouldn't be surprised if the Hard mix was a Darren production because it does bear resemblance to some other UW remixes of other artists from that early period; while the Soft mix sounds very much like the sort of Rick productions we still hear today.

Yes, I agree with khouri and TheBang. It makes sense. Hard Mix have Darren Emerson touch in this. And take for example hard tracks from STITI era, similar to this Hard Mix. Darren Emerson is very important for making Underworld harder tracks, you know these beats. Classic Underworld. But yeah, we can only speculate, but when you connect the dots... It makes sense.
