Nice to see the original cast members will be in the film. I'm going to have to revisit the original. It's been a while since I've watched it.
Hoping the soundtrack will feature an original UW track. I'm not against a new recorded version of Born Slippy - possibly a bridge off from their 2003 version - Born Slippy 2016. I'll gladly accept another remix, but seriously...

Kind of feel like a remix of Born Slippy.NUXX is almost a requirement, as a nod to nostalgia and link to the seminal vibe of the original. But even 20 years in from the first movie, and 13 from the piano laden new mix, we need a NEW new version... Something with energy, please! I'd hate to hear the track shoehorned in as background music just for the sake of inclusion, it's such a powerful track, pivotal to the plot and obviously aging well.
That said, a new soundtrack would be great! Underworld have a hard time saying no to Danny Boyle over the years, so let's hope...

It's an original script, with just some of the themes loosely inspired by Porno. It's set 20 years after the first film.

Saw the original at the cinema on a date. I'm that old. Stoked when Dark Train played during the cold-turkey scene "OMG It's Underworld!!!!" , my date said "Who the f**k are Underworld". Relationship didn't work out.

Confirmed, music by Rick Smith. I'll repost the whole Facebook post (https://www.facebook.com/underworldlive/posts/10154043611002849) here.
“I've often said that when Danny Boyle asks you to get involved in something, you don’t say no. You choose yes. Now it’s twenty years on and the whole family is back on the train… what an amazing journey it’s been.” Rick Smith
T2 Trainspotting, with Music by Rick Smith
Obviously a long history here, between the original film and Underworld, and between Rick Smith and Danny Boyle – a journey that’s taken in films (Sunshine, Trance), theatre (Frankenstein) and the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony. The original team is back together 20 years on for this epic sequel. #T2Trainspotting January 2017.
Rick’s taking a break from his music duties on the film next week to go to Japan with Underworld for their last show of the year – at Tokyo’s legendary Budokan. https://youtu.be/0JW52oJFHXQ.
Underworld’s March 2017 UK gig at Alexandra Palace is now sold out.

Not surprising, really, but good news, nonetheless. Looking forward to hearing this score. Wonder if Karl will contribute vocals to any new music (i.e. credited as Underworld) or if it's solely Rick?
Hopefully the movie deals with NUXX quickly and appropriately. i mean, they almost have to reference the track, but maybe it being in the trailer is enough. The whole trailer is built on nostalgia for the original, and NUXX is of course the huge, climactic song. Hopefully that's enough to spur memories and sell tickets, no need to rehash the track in the movie.

Just announced via FB that rick is doing all the music. Seems trance was a practice run for this ala frankenstein and the olympics? No new UW live shows to be scheduled for the forseeable future. Alexandria palace is sold out.
I wonder what all karl is gonna be up to while smith is holed up with boyle. Maybe a larger solo tour or new solo material? Itd be nice for that to come to the states, at least.

As for in the movie, nuxx has to get used, but I hope it's real early. I suspect a lot of backing drum tracks we've not heard, but not complete songs, like in the show Danny and Rick did that the name of escapes me... R and K have been making new stuff since BBWFASF, so a new song isn't out of the realm of possibility, but who knows if any of it is appropriate for the film.

Considering he did ALL the music for Frankenstein, the Olympics, Trance, and Babylon, and I'm pretty sure that's everything Danny Boyle has done since 2011 (edit: Boyle did the Steve Jobs bio movie as well, but Rick wasn't involved), I'd say it's a given that he did all the score for this as well.

Well, the original announcement said "Music by Rick Smith", which is distinct from "songs by Underworld." So, for whatever score elements there are, I'm sure Rick has done those.
While this is the soundtrack album, there might be a separate score album released. I'm not hopeful though. Still waiting for that Babylon score to be released.

Hmm. I bought the 12" in 2003 as it seemed to be the only way to get the full length '03 version at the time. Oddly, the CD single had the Oakenfold and Atomic Hooligan mixes in full but only had an edit of Rick's '03 version. I can only guess the idea was to get us to buy the thing twice - on CD and 12".
So other than forking out shedloads for an expensive promo CD from Discogs, how do I get the Down Version and London Electricity mix? I can't see them on Beatport.

Slow Slippy is like: they took the record at 45 RPM and and played it at 33, with the vocals kinda dubbed out and echoey. But the beats sound really heavy like a trip hop track. Simultaneously woozy and pounding. It's defo recognisable as the original version slowed down, not the 2003 piano version (though I've never heard the 2003 Down version, I have the Japanese CD single on order now).
There better be someone tripping out on some substance during this track.
!! FILM SPOILER ALERT !!
Eventually But: Spud doing some kind of melancholy goodbye note "I'm finished Gail, I'm Sorry...". Sombre minimal Rick stuff underneath.

i am actually quite disappointed with Slow Slippy, it literally sounds like they just took the original track and slowed it down... like if i brought the song in Ableton and just did it myself with the artifacts from time stretching and all with some added little sounds here and there. it honestly loses the emotional impact of the original. i was expecting, i dunno, something more beautiful? something different than just slowing the original track down.

and i dunno whoever mastered/remastered older songs for this soundtrack because the Run DMC vs Jason Nevins track sounds absolute ghastly. like they remastered it from a 128kbps MP3. i purchased the lossless and just terrible for that one track. i also used iTunes to preview and you can hear there as well. so i went and searched "Run DMC vs Jason Nevins" on iTunes and it brought up the T2 soundtrack and other releases it was one. i went and A/B'ed and you can hear the difference between them. The T2 version sounds terrible! What the f, Polydor Records???

Yes, the mastering on the CD is defective - Run DMC sounds awful, no oomph to the kick drum at all. The High Contrast one might be affected too - I've nothing to compare it too, but there's nowhere near as much low bass as I'd expect.
The Young Fathers sound awful too, but that might not be down to the mastering ;-)

Not buying if it's as crapmastered as they say. Underwhelmed by Slow Slippy and The Prodigy remix I've heard. Young Father's? Nope. Roll on the Beaucoup Fish box set...
PS am I getting old and cranky? Sure. But for a film that wallows in nostalgia, the soundtrack is just that. Safe retreads and nowhere near the energy of the original. As a teen in the 90s, Trainspotting was a major musical/visual experience. A teen these days might hardly care. As a thirtysomething this time around, I love the nostalgia but hate the adaptation. It's pandering. Better to just play the original tracks and let us fill in the context, rather than remixes that hint at the original feel, but remind you that something's changed for the worse over time...

You're not wrong. But remember that the first film is actually set in the 1980's, so the tracks of that era are appropriate. And nostalgic for viewers in the 90's and on...
I guess my point was, whether a classic or previously released, that soundtrack sounded fresh and vibrant. I'm not feeling the same from T2. Just an opinion.
