The thing I want most is the 98 gig from the Mayan in downtown LA, one of three Beaucoup Fish road tests and the first UW show I ever saw. I met Rick after the Dubno show in London and told him I was at that gig in LA and he looked at me very seriously and said, "That was a good show." If you've heard the bootleg, you know the arrangements were wonderful that night, and you hear Push, Snake, Cups and Jumbo in primordial form, not to mention FIVE POINTS, the most frustratingly unreleased UW jam of all time, surely.
I really don't want any of the remixes by other artists. Not into it at all. I want as much pure Underworld as they can fit on those discs.

Showcasing other remixers wouldn't be my first choice either even though there were some good ones from that period.
As for any potential studio demo tracks I'd like:
--Cappe Ffuno (http://uwlive.rowla.com/gigs/bySong/164)
--The part of King of Snake they used when they did really long live jams...I think it's referred to as 'Bungalow'
--Please Help Me jams
--Five Points
And I'd love to hear anything from the Underworld & U2 sessions.

Would be good to get Please Help Me, Barking Mix, Dobropet, Relentless Legs and The Large Unit all together but otherwise it's definitely short on already-released bonus material. Wouldn't be surprised if, should the album get released, it was just the 2-disc special edition with those and some unreleased pieces, rather than a 4/5 disc deluxe box.

There's also the possibility that U2 release a 20th anniversary edition of 'Pop' which they have done with other albums - giving us a chance to hear the Mofo mix(es).
If they do, that would be in 2017.

I guess there's no reason why a hypothetical box set need only include the strictly Beaucoup Fish tracks/jams from underworldlive.com site. The skyscraper / air towel / stagger (etc) jams are all from 2000 (as far as I know) and therefor of the BF era. So it might be a good idea to include everything from 99 - 2001 in this thread, including the "cowgirl live" single with the bedrock/futureshock mixes.

This. My favorite era of UW. Have all the remixes, radio shows, live improvs. I'd love studio versions of the above UW jams, but see no reason for remastered remixes. Rarely are they very memorable, though I guess you could argue that this era was the last time when remixers really worked with the track elements, rather than taking a vocal sample and one loop to put on top of their own crap production, which is sadly the case today.
As I mentioned in the Stiti thread, I'm most keen to hear outtakes from the BF sessions. Just because we don't know about them doesn't mean they don't exist... Case in point, STITI boxset disc 3.
There are accounts that the BF recording sessions were tense, with mixes shared over DAT if not in person. Promises of many embryonic versions! Would love to have works in progress and tracks like the above that never saw official release, especially Cappe Ffuno

I don't see the value in compiling stuff that's already been released on CD, since we have it in high quality already. But the UWlive jams would be rad, along with the DVD exclusive music from Everything Everything like Kittens, Rowla, Moaner, Dark Train and everything else from the ROM portion.
But aside from the live show i mentioned, I'd love to hear early versions of all the BF tracks. The Second Toughest and Dubno releases showed us that there's potentially loads of stuff we've not only never heard, but even never heard OF.

that might have been true for their earlier mixes.
however, at this point, the ones they did were all fairly mundane, and basically just extending the tracks which was really boring.
all the other remixers had a great time doing their mixes.
--------------
underworld used to do radical mixes on their own and on other peoples work,
but all that seemed to stop a long time ago.

except some are out of print, some are promos, and not everyone wants to hunt down all those singles..
which is one of the points of compiling them for a boxset.

While the peel tracks are technically BF sourced, I want to believe that AHDO will include that show in full, cleaned up and mixed with John's mic in full quality. I dont mind that *we* already have it, even.

My provisional thoughts are :
CD1 : Beaucoup Fish, remastered
CD2 : Oh, King of Snake (Bungalow), Push Upstairs (The Large Unit), Jumbo (Futureshock Mix), Cups (Vertical Bacon Mix), Cowgirl (Futureshock Mix), King Of Snake (Dino Lenny), Dobropret, Please Help Me, 8 Ball
CD3 : Studio Jams - Oich Oich, Skycraper, Air Towel, Something Like A Nuxx, King of Snake, Thing n A Book 250501, Stagger 010601
CD 4 : London Alexandra Palace 01-01-99
That's what we know exists, and manages to ditch most of the uninteresting third party mixes. I've chosen the KoS Dino Lenny mix as it has different KH vocals.

i will never understand why all these tracks can't just be put on:
-----------------------
1 dvd (dual layer) 9 gigs
2 bluray audio 25 gigs
------------------------
etiher as audio tracks, or files.
it's been ages for those formats [ok, maybe not the bluray audio],
but bluray discs aren't exactly new.
and if you really want to go retro, a USB stick.
other groups have done this before..
i know about the crazy depeche mode, and u2 super collections on itunes
that were hundreds of dollars. ok, we don't need that yet. (or maybe we do).
it's not that hard. restricting it to cd's is almost as bad as vinyl (and i love vinyl).
you would think they would go back to putting up extras or exclusives as
digital downloads in their store. we know there's a market for that.

WORD. Some awful mixes in the last 7-8 years. The remixes of UW tracks for OWB were a real mixed bag. Some of the mixes for Barking were a disgrace.

Absolutely agree. I would prefer the reissues gave us just Underworld's work, skipping remixes by other people entirely, from BF onwards including this material would mean either repeating a lot of very similar mixes, or being seriously incomplete. My wishlist is:
CD1 Album Remaster
CD2 Remixes by UW (Kos Bungalow and barking, etc) and studio jams
CD3 Early versions (Xfm?) and unreleased tracks
CD4 Interestingly different live versions of the album tracks (there's a wealth of choice here - long versions of Cups pt 2, fast versions of Bruce Lee, etc.)
As for the point -1 makes, I agree 4CDs didn't give STITI the room it needed with things like Carp Dreams (Koi), the Juanita edit, Dubno felt a bit incomplete without Kiteless and the Cutting Room floor mix in physical form, and both sets would have been miles better with at least 1 complete live gig from that era.
Perhaps the reason we're not getting a lot of live/video content is that it's being stored up for a data-heavy Everything Everything Box? The Live Here Now discs show there's a demand for every live gig they make available, even if unmastered and incorrectly trimmed. Rick could stick 50 DATs on a memory stick and make us very happy!

Instead, lets have some of those 200+ demo snippets they have on DAT and find out more about how the album developed.

Theres actually a mention of Bruce Lee in this in the Radio 1 documentary/interview:
http://stuff.rowla.com/underworld-radio-1-interview-tonight-matthew-we-are-going-to-be-underworld.mp3
After 16:30-ish Darren Emerson explains that it was "Done a long time ago" (this interview was around 98 / 99). They go on to talk about how they tried to make it "less hip-hop sounding".

I dont think any Peel Session 2003 tracks belong on there. And Belfort is 1998, and Fuji is 1999. Blue Mountain is early 1999 too. If youre going for live tracks, dont just pick the tracks that appeared on the album. Pick a gig. A whole gig that represents. The early 1998 sets only really had KoS, and then PU and then Cups and then Jumbo. 1999 had a more polished set but the 1998 sets were more upbeat and harder like the 1996 sets.

yes, of course, a full gig would be great.
but there are too many to choose from.
i'm sure as mentioned above, there are some great gigs that highlight

that - I'm not sure of...
I have two versions (I'm at work now, so neither of which are handy right now)
One sounds more like a radio broadcast - there's a bit of analogue 'static' throughout, and it starts with pre-gig music ... vaguely 'hip hop ish' (it lasts for only a few seconds). The tracks are separated in larger chunks, and the bootleg doesn't include the "Cowgirl" encore.
Then there's a second version, which - to my ears sounds a bit cleaner. It does not include the pre-gig music. All of the improvs and songs are separated into tracks, and it does include Cowgirl
Glad to know more people are finding out about this show! To me it's as 'essential' as "European Club Gig" "Tramway '94" or "Bootleg Babies"

Amazon UK has the standard single disc edition listed but no sign of the 4CD yet.

With only a month until release I'm really surprised we've not had any sort of announcement for this yet. Maybe tomorrow as it'll be the 18th?

Starting to get the feeling that this will be either disappointing or late..

How can it be late? No announcement/release has been suggested, other than by some internet people.
The album was released in 1999, so actually, we're a little early I'd suggest.

The remastered CD and Vinyl are listed on most retailers with a release date of Nov. 18. Regardless of announcements, the information is in the distribution channel.
I don't think they're sticking to the 20th anniversary for each album. It looks like they're just going to be releasing them about 1 per year.

And Amazon still don't have a 4CD edition listed. This is all confusing.

The link on the previous page still works, but doing a search on Amazon UK doesn't return results for the CD or LP remastered versions anymore. Don't think we'll be getting this on the 18th.

I wonder what's up... Dogboy slipped a few times too. I'm okay with waiting if it's for quality assurance reasons.

they can take all the time they want.
there's tons of other releases coming out in the next few months or so.
maybe, they're expanding or even adding to it.

Pretty much confirming this, a newsletter about the Dogboy dates went out earlier. If this was going to be coming in three weeks they'd definitely have mentioned in there. Wonder what happened...

Who knows what happened...but, I'm also okay with the delay. The Dubno box was special because it was 20 years on and saw R &K back on tour to revisit their past and reignite the creative process. For me, the STITI deluxe set was a little less special, for one because it wasn't the 20 yr anniversary, so its release felt rushed; two, it's actually not my favorite UW album, and the whole disc of Born Slippy was a bit much ( though the outtakes are great). Beacoup Fish is my favorite record and I eagerly await the arrival of the box set, but I'd prefer it with a little fanfare, not diluted by the remaining tour dates and Dogboy release.

I figured it was a bit much to release a new album and Beaucoup Fish super deluxe set all in one year. So I figure it is probably just delayed until next year. There was zero mention, so it makes sense. Perhaps they want to make sure it is special.

I saw the 11/18 release date as well posted on another forum. I didn't take it as official since nothing was posted on Underworldlive.com or here. I for one am hoping for a much more significant release for Beaucoup Fish Deluxe. This LP was pivitol for me as it was during this tour I got to see UW play live for the first time. The show at the Santa Monica Civic center is still one of my favourites!
I agree with holden on the Born Slippy disc (although it was welcomed with open arms), it was a little bit too much. There's is so much material & remixes for the Beaucoup period, so I'm hoping the box set will be filled with additional goodies; i.e; Birdstar & D'arbly Street Slow...

To be released in a week?? We'll see about that...
Edit: It is of note that the catalog number is UWR 73. The Ova Nova single is UWR 82. Also the other re-releases weren't released on the UW label, but on universal music instead. I wonder why the delay of BF, too close to BB? Maybe too close to STitI, which already was a little underwhelming as a release as compared to DNBWMHM? More work to be done on it?

I follow the man who did the mastering for the Dubno and Second Toughest vinyl remasters, Miles Showell, on Twitter. Someone asked him about possible future Underworld vinyl. He tweeted this out a few days ago.

"Beaucoup Fish is done should be available soon. Have U ordered a copy of the T2 "Slow Slippy" 1/2 speed 12" 45? Available from UW's website."

If there is any Underworld album that could really benefit from a remaster it is Beacoup Fish. I love this album, and it was the first I heard by them but I always felt the production was a little muddy sounding in places. The songs are really strong and I hope Rick gives the album some love as it deserves it. Perhaps the delay in release is a good sign.
I'm also really looking forward to some of the rare / unheard tracks from around this time

I agree with you, especially with regards to a full studio Cappe Ffuno and unreleased, never before heard tracks. STITI boxset was great because of the number of totally unreleased tracks. I love Beaucoup Fish more than all the other albums, so while it's nice to have Hi Fi versions of tracks we got in 128kbs back in the day, I really want to hear more from this album's origin story.

So, here's the deal. I spoke to management, and the BF remaster is coming, it's just not quite ready yet. The main album remaster was completed last year (as seen on Miles Showell's twitter) though, so I think either they haven't finished the box set material yet, or it doesn't fit in their release schedule yet (IMO, more likely, given the previous aborted solicitation dates in this thread).
Someone at Universal screwed up and the remastered vinyl is in the distribution and retail channels in the US, and it's not supposed to be. Management is pretty sure it's the correct remastered audio (and not somehow pressed with the original audio), but will check to make sure.

Hi. First post, but have been lurking.
I can confirm that the new pressing is a brand new cut. It has Abbey Road and 1/2 speed master cut into the deadwax. I have an original pressing as well and there is a slight difference between the two. Lows are solid and deep on both, but I feel like the high end is a bit crisper. I think this new master is a touch better than the original.
Looking forward to the box set. Hopefully we see it sooner than later.

The band just announced the Beaucoup Fish boxset. Release date is August 25th. The deluxe version is 4 CDs. One disc is of unreleased tracks. The other 2 bonus CDs contain remixes. There's a few that I don't recognize.
