So far, confirmed artists include U2's Bono, Chris Martin of Coldplay, Emeli Sande, Underworld, Sinead O'Connor, Paloma Faith, Foals and Bastille, who have given up two arena dates to record their contribution.

Blimey....Never thought I'd see the day that the boys take part in a high profile charity single!

Ah, it's because Bob Geldof is producing. He and UW go way back. I imagine the contribution will be Karl participating in the vocals.

Does that count as a number 1 which it'll probably be?

Guess in a small way we'll finally get that U2 / Underworld collaboration.

Reports saying that it'll actually be a remix by UW. So it could be vocal from Karl on main track and a separate remix.

Looks like Underworld & Disclosure remixes due for release on 8 December 2014.

Single's out. Karl sings in the chorus, but no featured solo.

Underworld's remix will be on the CD on Dec. 8, as well as available digitally that day.

Was that really necessary? Singing in a charity single is usually the point in a career when you'd better re-evaluate your priorities...

And you know what Karl's priorities ought to be?
It's a charity single, relax.
Further, participation in these songs/events either signifies that an artist has a high profile and star power to sell records/ tickets, or they are poised to benefit from the exposure.

that was... something. That last shot of the whole group, though, Karl looks very... Karl. Peering his neck out from behind something (someone) with a crooked smile. It is bizarre to see underworld's name attached to something so mainstream, though.

Doing the olympics, and several soundtracks. this hardly feels out of place.

That's Bob Geldof. Here's the picture that they took:

Trivia time:

Bob Geldof and Underworld wrote a one-off musical together in 1993 that was performed in Paris.

The proceeds from that job helped fund Underworld so that they could write Rez, Cowgirl, and dubnobasswithmyheadman.

True, but most of that was working with Danny Boyle first and foremost that happened to be big things too. This isn't a performance art scenario (musical, movie, other stage production), this is a Christmas charity album featuring the likes of Bono and One Direction.

Why I had to turn down Band Aid (http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/nov/19/turn-down-band-aid-bob-geldof-africa-fuse-odg) - an interesting viewpoint of how those charity singles participate to convey a negative portrayal of the continent of Africa in the west.

I am not disputing Band Aid’s good intentions. But the shock-factor strategy they have used since the 1980s has sparked a whole wave of “good cause” organisations that have been irresponsible with regard to the images shown to the rest of the world. It’s been totally one-sided. That’s understandable in part, as they wouldn’t raise much money if they showed the affluence, wealth, and happy lifestyles that exist in the continent. But in the process of doing all this “good work” a huge imbalance has been created.

That image of poverty and famine is extremely powerful psychologically. With decades of such imagery being pumped out, the average westerner is likely to donate £2 a month or buy a charity single that gives them a nice warm fuzzy feeling; but they are much less likely to want to go on holiday to, or invest in, Africa. If you are reading this and haven’t been to Africa, ask yourself why.

Congratulations to Mr Hyde on finally getting to No.1 in the UK charts!

Well, I just realized that so far, the Underworld remix is MIA. It didn't make the CD single release.

apparently disclosure has distanced themselves from the project, despite initial reports that UW and Disclosure would both have remixes involved.

schade...(too bad!). i was reeeaally looking forward to this remix. after what they (brilliantly!) did with Manic Street Preachers - William's Lasts Words, showing how an Underworld Remix doesnt always have to be all balls and bass, I was really looking forward to Rick's take on this timeless xmas track.

boo-urns!

I was hoping for something majestic like the Depeche Mode soft mix

I am hopeful it exists.. I was searching on Monday and found this tweet:

https://twitter.com/FilthyMank/status/540537892901498880

"Just been sent the Band Aid 30 track remixed by @underworldlive not what I was expecting #curveball"

So either the guy is lying, or the promos are circulating. The only info I saw on the release was on Wikipedia, but there has also been some attention to the Underworld remix in the music press so it would be a shame if it was false.

Havent seen anything of an Underworld remix but there is a High Contrast mix which sounds nothing like the original. Meanwhile Karl is seen singing in the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGKROdTqI8k but i'd skip to about 2m50s in to skip the ego parade at the beginning.

Well, Geldof is at it again. Band Aid 40 is a megamix of 3 previous recordings, Band Aid, Band Aid 20, and Band Aid 30. (Band Aid II gets left out because apparently they lost the multitracks.)

No sign of the unreleased Underworld remix.

https://www.universalmusic.ca/press-releases/band-aid-do-they-know-its-christmas-40th-anniversary-compilation-including-brand-new-2024-ultimate-mix-announced-for-release-on-29th-november/
"Unveiled on 25th November, on ‘Band Aid - 2024 Ultimate Mix’ you will hear a young Sting sing alongside a young Ed Sheeran. A young Boy George with a young Sam Smith. A young George Michael beside a young Harry Styles. The young Bono with an older Bono, Chris Martin with Guy Garvey, the Sugababes and Bananarama, Seal and Sinead O’Connor, Rita Ora and Robbie Williams, Kool and the Gang and Underworld."
