underworld deluxe album editions

we are entering the golden age of albums now.
many of our favorites have been out for some time,
and its good to look back at them.

for underworld, their early era from 1993-1999
marked a major period for them. the uw mk2
version was in full swing. and darren emerson
would leave after that time.

they managed to put out 3 landmark albums,
dubnobasswithmyheadman 1993, second toughest
in the infants 1996, and beaucoup fish 1999.

for some, that grew up with their sounds,
they have quite an attachment to them. and
for others discovering the depth of them,
many new surprises are to be found.

there have been some 2cd versions of all of
the albums, mostly with some remixes and a
few bonus tracks, but nothing comprehensive.

as we approach the 21st anniversary for dubno,
and 18th for second toughest, and 15th for
beaucoup fish, now is good time to look back
at them.

there has been quite a bit material released by
the band, thanks to their website underworldlive.com,
and many live tracks, alternate versions and
radio show tracks were made available. there has
also been a large set of tracks made of live shows
from radio and tv, along with some televised. most
of these shows were from the uk or europe.

the early material from underworld also reveals the
peak of the live songs, with many improvs, and
alternate forms of the songs done. many of the shows
had different tracklistings without repetition.
even the same song could sound different from other
known versions.

here you will find an in depth exploration of the
album tracks, alternate versions, remixes, b-sides,
and live tracks, along with videos representing
the vast output.

please support the band, buy their material, and
also support the forums and trading groups as
the vast majority of the material was provided
by many people through the RTSR group.

this material was provided freely, so it is expected
to be shared freely. you can find the majority of the
material through the tracker and ftp sites.

and vinyl. for the live tracks, the quality of the
download tracks from the website are the original ones.

underworld mk2 began their career with a lot
of non album material. several singles were
released as lemon interupt and they began
their transformation from the late 80's
underworld to the new mk2 underworld
with darren emerson added to the mix.

the single mother earth was released
prior to the album, and was sold out of
their car trunk. only 500 copies were made,
a few broken ones have emerged, but most
are still trading hands for large sums
between fans.

prior to the album being released,
a DAT version was released to record labels,
and friends. fortunately a copy showed up,
and was shared between traders. it was cool
in having 3 unreleased tracks, and an extended
version of another. it is included here for
completeness.

as a concept album, dubnobasswithmyheadman
has held up over time, between the ambient
ones, and the beat filled tracks and
mysterious samples and voices.

we are proud to present this overview of
it, along with an early version, all the
associated singles, b-sides, remixes and
edits that were released. along with promo
version. a large number of these tracks have
never been commercially released, along with
the remastering of many of the tracks from
vinyl.

additionally, underworld recorded and broadcast
some live jam versions from their lemonworld
studio. these tracks were available as free
downloads, and are included here for completeness
also.

there is also a huge section of live tracks.
underworld has made a name for themselves as
on the premier live electronic acts of the era.

their brilliant stage shows, lighting sets,
and projections have set them apart from
everyone else. as you will see and hear,
the vast majority of their shows had no
setlist, many improvisational tracks,
and a variety that has not been matched
by other groups, and even themselves
nowadays.

most of the album has been played live,
however, most of the slower ambient tracks
have never been played to this day, so you
will hear most of the singles, along with
a few remixes an alternate tracks. also
while many of the songs were played in their
early concerts, most of them were not played
in latter ones, with the exception of rez-cowgirl,
and dark train, which remain constant staples
in their concerts to this day, and have been
played hundreds of times.

underworld released several concerts via their
site on underworldlive.com, as free downloads.
all of them have been preserved here in their
original formats (some tracks have been split
or combined for ease of access). make sure you
have gapless audio playback for the best
possible experience as many tracks flow into
others.

secondly, through a large group of dedicated
fans, many concerts dating from 1980-2013 have
emerged as bootlegs, radio and tv broadcasts
along with soundboard recordings.

these have been collected, and combined to give an
overview of single stand out tracks through
the years. along with partial concerts from
that era with the appropriate songs. the full
concerts are not presented here, as some songs
were from other albums, or not representative
of it. although they are still playing these
songs even now in 2014, it is felt that after
1999, most of the versions were very similar
unlike the early ones. also, underworld released
many official live recordings through several
labels, so you can explore them through those,
as those will not be represented here either.
if there is a notable song from the 2000 era,
it will be represented also.

thanks. the problem with that is there aren't enough unique and distinct tracks in good quality from that era.

i'd rather have as many tracks and as many variations of them as possible,
even if they are later than 1995. after 2000, they all sound pretty much the
same with a few exceptions.

I disagree. I think they are quite distinct. UW are using different hardware and software too. Rather than fill this with bits of post-95 recordings, just dont put them in at all if you dont want to use "substandard" recordings (like Leicester 1995 for example).

i'll have to admit.

i've only paid attention to the few i've heard from liveherenow recordings.
which was quite awhile ago.

the few other ones i heard didn't sound that different, even
though they are using different equipment.

if they've made changes to the songs, then that is good.
it's just that i don't see too many from the dubnobasswithmyhead era
cropping up.

i'll check with the gigography. but its down right now.

the 20th anniversary deluxe boxset, and from the
web release of the uw vs misterons dubnomix.

dubnoDat was an early prototype that was probably released
to friends, and record companies showing off
their tracks, and mixes. includes 3 songs that
were not released originally. organ, can u feel me, and
big meat show. other track names were changed.

well not really sure where else to post this?

anyways, i always wanted to add a book to this project,
with more text, or the introduction, etc.

but since i consider the mmm skyscraper book
a major part of the project, that would be nice.

so i scanned the whole book at 300 dpi, and created a PDF version.

i'm still finalizing it, but a v2.0 would be interesting with
some of the pages combined together....
