That's really cool! Soothing stuff, a few sounds i recognize from UWLive archives, and just a nice idea.

one of my mates here sent me this link:
http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/playtheroad
it's fairly recent (judging from karl's hair colour haha). last week there was a tweet from him saying they're in the studio recording something - maybe it was related with this project... since there are tons of lemonworld snaps in it.

Yes, the arpeggio melody from Swing Up High is playing towards the end.

Oh my gosh- finally Underworld is back. Last record was good, but it wasn't the underworld we all know and love. This however...

Very cool idea but also very dangerous for young U/W fans if they make it sound better and better with increased speed.
And God, please keep the airplanes out of this. It really hurts to see that guy driving under the wings and the fuselage. It´s just so unnecessary stupid.
Sorry guys, but for me aircraft has soul just like cars :D

If I could just have it for a couple hours on this little stretch of road, I'd be a VERY happy camper:

Having it on the next version of DiRT 3 would work just as well. Not much for games, but it maybe would make me addicted ;)

If we're talking games, there's a LOT cooler things they can do than stick their work in something like dirt, especially considering their penchant for full experiences.
http://game140.com/ for just one example of many.
Like imagine a game where not only the music was generative by user input, but the level was too, and the two paralleled each other. Could even get tomato up in this for the visual styling.

Haha, same thing came to my mind. Glad to see they finally used it for something, even if I wish it was something a little more momentous.

They posted this on their own channel today. I haven't been able to watch it all as youtube has not been downloading more than a minutes worth of video all day. it's 14:34 and rick's in the backseat, maybe karl in the front, but you don't get a good shot of that person in the bit i've been able to see.

Yeah, unfortunately, there's some kind of YouTube processing error with that video. Hopefully they re-upload it. In the meantime, I've only been able to get the WebM 360p and 3GPP 144p versions to work.
It's not Karl in the front seat. I'd imagine that this was mostly Rick on a day-to-day basis, with Karl popping in sometimes.

Looks like YouTube resolved the video error. All the resolutions are working now, including 720p and 1080p.

It appears Underworld wasn't the originator of the idea. I doubt UW is aware of this, doesn't seem like them to poach a project knowingly.

who knows the real story?
where are the details..
who gives a complete application working for free to someone.
there are contracts, and other things in place, along with patents, etc.
there are legal ways to settle this.
sounds like sour grapes to me.

This was a VW project from its inception. What may or may not have gone on with the genesis of the idea has nothing to do with UW, who were brought on in a consultancy role for the music engineering.

That's what I suspected. Thanks for confirming. Glad the 'Internet Hate Machine' isn't turning its gaze on UW and keeping it squarely on VW.

So did anything ever become of this?
jetpig

I think the marketing for Volkswagen and the opportunity to have made this for UW was the things that became. Doubt we will see/here any more of this again.

We might get the audio one day. Sounds like it was a version of Swing Up High which was sounding good.
