I learned just recently that Karl Hyde is a fan of the late experimental blues artist Captain Beefheart (real name Don Van Vliet). There is a mention on Beefheart's site that says that Karl use to play his music before shows to get in the right mood to perform.
Captain Beefheart died in 2010 and I am just wondering if Karl ever said anything on his passing and the influence he had on his music. Both made very different types of music but Karl's trademark scatterbrain songwriting style is quite reflective in some ways to Beefheart's album "Trout Mask Replica". I saw a list somewhere on line that listed Karl's 20 favorite albums and I noticed this one along with another Beefheart album was on that list. I was not able to catch any of his appearances when he hosted BBC1, but I saw a playlist online of what he chose to play and again Beefheart was part of his selection. To all those who tuned into the program did he say anything about Don during the program? Also are there any interviews anyone knows of that he has spoken about him?
