Hi all,

I'm interested to know what songs Underworld have sampled. The only one I know of is Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" in King Of Snake. Can anyone add to this?

Hmm, this will be quite difficult to find even one more. I'm not aware of any other songs sampled -- I'm not even entirely sure they sampled I Feel Love as much as recreated the exact sound.

Well they sampled some widely-available jungle breakbeat on Pearl's Girl, don't know what it is but you can hear it here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_5XQc_UQPQ) as well.

king of snake IMO isn't anywhere near a sample of I Feel Love. slightly similar, that's all.

they credit it in the BF booklet tho. which is why i always thought they just recreated the loop and wanted to give homage.

That's the break from Lyn Collins Think (About It)

James Brown was the producer, the JBs were the band, so the drummer would have been Jabo Starks.

RE: The Bang. That one dosen't count. I'm sorry I didn't make it clear but I was referring to songs from other artists they have sampled. About the I Feel Love sample, honestly I don't notice it. Like what photobroth said it was in the book.

You know the old reply about there only being 12 chords? Sure, it's false, but hey, you are limited in sounds, and everyone wants to declare that they thought of it first.

I remember King of the Hill when Hank said: "It doesn't matter if you only know 3 chords, but for goodness ' sake, put them in the right order"

We'll forever be finding samples and inspirations. Let's just hope the UW tunes inspire us in a new way.

I may be thinking of a completely different artist and song, but I thought I had read / heard that Summer / Moroder / Bellotte were given song credits to King of Snake to avoid a potential lawsuit?

The song doesn't use any samples, but just sounds pretty similar, and everyone can see the resemblance.

I remember them saying that in an interview in the past too.

Does anyone know of any track(s) released before Cowgirl by another artist that have that screechy dial riff you hear at 2:44m (album version)? Not looking for a sample just a earlier track that has a similar sound.

Pearl's Girl also samples the intro drum loop off 2 Bad Mice's 'Bomb-scare' - though that's obvs. a sample from somewhere else. Evidence here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyW2p5KdS8Q

I guess we can add Minneapolis to the list, as it's now officially an Underworld song. The drums sample the first half bar of the Led Zepellin's 'When the Levee Breaks', but like the amen break this one has been be edited, effected and rebuilt and collaged countless times from other versions, so there's no way to tell the if Underworld sampled the original, or sampled anything from "Derek B - Bad Young Brother (Billy Beat Mix By William Orbit)" through to "Sophie B. Hawkins - Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover"

Tricky one: Doll's Symphony (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UHz7HwvUmw) (Akira soundtrack) at the last seconds of Dirty Epic (Dirty Mix) [EP version].

for me, i wouldn't call it official. because they have sung other songs before.
it's just a matter of semantics. however, for keeping lists, i have added them
to the underworld list, and not to the lemon interupt one.

i'm considering changing that, as it is confusing.

Thanks

AHmm, this bit is missing from the DubNo Box set...
It's stopping me deleting my old rip of the track, replacing it with the new one...

I wonder if it was cos it didn't fit or sample clearance...

I figured it would be a sample clearance issue if it wasn't on the version for the 1992-2002 release either.
